RAIL - TRUE POSITION
RACE 1: OVER $4M GIVE AWAY H'CAP - 2100M.
SILVER PAGE was slow to begin.
Upon straightening, SILVER PAGE was inconvenienced by BORRACHERA, which shifted in.
Near 100m., M. McDonald, rider of PRINCE STARLIGHT, was obliged to stop riding when that gelding appeared to shy at a mark on the track created by the barriers.
RACE 2: TRILBY MISSO LAWYERS H'CAP - 1300M.
Trainer B. McLachlan was advised that a warning was being placed on DE CANNY, which proved difficult to load.
MILLENNIUM BELLE was slow to begin.
ASTRALOBE began awkwardly.
At the 1000m., MARZEE STAR got its head up and lost ground when placed in restricted room between STARS IN BARS and MILLENNIUM BELLE.
Leaving the 800m., MEAN WINE commenced to race ungenerously, which resulted in that horse shifting out, taking KEEP THE ACE wider on the track.
Upon straightening, MEAN WINE had to be steadied when tightened for room between KEEP THE ACE, which shifted in slightly, and ASTRALOBE, which was taken out by DISTINCTLY. M. McDonald, rider of DISTINCTLY, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
MEAN WINE was then held up for clear running until after passing the 200m..
FOSCAT also had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Jockey M. Dorrington, rider of KEEP THE ACE, was cautioned for allowing his mount to shift in after passing the winning post, resulting in a tightening to MEAN WINE.
RACE 3: WWW.TRILBY MISSO.COM.AU H'CAP - 1000M.
Trainer R. Heathcote was fined $25 for presenting REPRENDRE without blinkers.
DEVIL blundered at the start.
On the home turn, REPRENDRE had to be steadied away from the heels of DAMIGOS after being taken out by ANCIENT PRINCE.
DAMIGOS raced wide during the event.
The connections of ANCIENT PRINCE were questioned regarding the disappointing performance of that colt. Jockey J. Taylor stated that the horse dwelt slightly at the start and appeared to struggle on the surface, which was commencing to cut up a little due to light rain. Trainer N. Doyle indicated that ANCIENT PRINCE'S performance today was in keeping with the horse's recent track work which had caused him concern that the horse may not have come up this preparation. Mr Doyle also indicated that the colt performed poorly in an official barrier trial at the Gold Coast on Tuesday, 26 February. Mr Doyle also advised stewards that although ANCIENT PRINCE had been placed on a dead track in Melbourne, the horse does not ordinarily appreciate a track with any type of shifting surface. A veterinary examination of ANCIENT PRINCE revealed the colt to have sustained lacerations to the near hind cannon.
RACE 4: WANLESS WASTECORP SUPER QRIS CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL - 1200M.
STRICTLY SMART and SILENT THOUGHT were slow to begin.
MIGHTY ICON jumped inwards at the start, making contact with PROUDLY AGRO.
YAKEEMA DANCER ran wide on the first turn.
SILENT THOUGHT tended to overrace at the heels of CROWN REGATTA in the middle stages.
A. Pattillo, rider of SILENT THOUGHT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he directed his mount out around the heels of GRAND REGATTA,at the 400m which resulted in DARK EMPEROR being checked and in turn tightened on to PROUDLY AGRO, which was hampered. A. Pattillo was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 6 March, and to expire at midnight, 15 March 20002.
M. Rodd, rider of WAYJO, was reprimanded for allowing him mount to shift out near the 300m., resulting in BILLY JARRAH being hampered when tightened on to CROWN REGATTA.
STRICTLY SMART was obliged to race wide throughout the event.
A veterinary examination of AMEX, which tired badly in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality.
MIGHTY ICON return to scale with blood in its mouth as a result of dislodged teeth.
RACE 5: WANLESS WASTECORP SUPER QRIS CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL - 1200M.
Following the running of race 4, the track rating was downgraded to dead.
BLUE FANTASY was slow to begin.
At the 700m., KIMBARETTE lost ground as a result of the filly being reluctant to hold its position to the inside of WHISKEY ON ICE. SANDASTA, which was following, was obliged to shifted out abruptly off the heels of KIMBARETTE and made contact with GOTTA BE GOOD.
Leaving the 400m., THEATREGOER was hampered by COOLAYETI, which shifted in after being struck with the whip.
Approaching the 300m., both FLASH VALENTINE and OMARA had to be checked to avoid the heels of SILVER BELLS, which commenced to lose ground quickly.
In the vicinity of the 300m., A. Kennedy's left foot slipped from the stirrup iron, resulting in A. Kennedy almost being dislodged from GOTTA BE GOOD.. A. Kennedy was severely disadvantaged for the remainder of the straight and was unable to test his mount.
Approaching the 100m., COOLAYETI had to be checked away from the heels of the tiring CABARU QUEEN after being taken out by THEATREGOER. As it was established that CABARU QUEEN had shifted in marginally at the time of the interference, M. Rodd, rider of THEATREGOER, was issued with a severe reprimand and urged to ride with far more care.
RACE 6: QTBOA H'CAP - 1200M.
J. Stanley was substituted as the rider of TELLING BLOW as G. Colless was to be overweight. Stewards accepted that G. Colless was unable to make the weight due to his gear being saturated, and therefore no action was taken.
M. Dorrington, rider of SONIC SWITCH, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that after travelling 50m. he allowed his mount to shift in when not fully clear of SAHARA COVET, resulting in SAHARA COVET being taken in across the running of BAGPIPES, which was tightened and lost its position. M. Dorrington was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, with the suspension to expire at midnight, 15 March 2002.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that the THE LONDON BANKER bled during the event. As this was the second occasion on which the gelding has bled, THE LONDON BANKER will now incur a lifetime bar from racing.
RACE 7: THOROUGHBRED BREEDERS QLD H'CAP - 1600M.
Trainer Greg. Ryan was fined $50 for failing to present GASOLINE on course by the prescribed time.
After the running of race 6, the track rating was downgraded to slow.
Stewards acceded to a request from trainer G. Ryan to withdraw VIANGAR at 3 p.m. due to the track being downgraded.
A post race swab sample was taken from GASOLINE.
RACE 8: QUEENSLAND RACEHOURSE OWNERS H'CAP - 1400M.
Due to the track being downgraded to slow, stewards acceded to requests from trainers G. Ryan and B. McLachlan to withdraw KING SHALFORD and POWER AND EGO respectively at 3.42 p.m..
As A. Morrison was indisposed, A. Erhart was substituted as the rider of BLAZING KALA.
Trainer P. Bell was advised that a warning was being placed on NORTHERN CRUSADER, which proved difficult to load. The start was further delayed when PATRICIA CATHERINE required farrier attention.
TRUE ENOUGH was slow to begin.
ALL WINNERS AND GASOLINE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
