ADJOURNED INQUIRY - QTC MEETING, 30.3.02
An adjourned inquiry into an incident which occurred after passing the winning post on the first occasion in Race 6, the Moreton's Easter Cup, was concluded today. Subsequently, L. Hill, rider of COUNT SCENARIO, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in approaching the first turn at a stage when not fully clear of ALMIGHTY ALLIANCE, resulting in ALMIGHTY ALLIANCE being restrained by its rider and in turn shifting in, cramping the racing room of HIRSCHBERG.
RACE 1: CASTLEMAINE SOVEREIGN H'CAP - 1200M.
GEIGER DRAGON jumped inwards at the start, inconveniencing FINAL DEMAND.
INTERSTORM hung in under pressure in the straight. M. Pelling advised that INTERSTORM raced very greenly and was timid when racing inside other runners, particularly in the straight.
LECLERC was obliged to race wide during the event.
RACE 2: COCKATOO RIDGE H'CAP - 1200M.
On the first turn, EMINENT CHEVAL got its head up when being steadied off the heels of KUMPEL ANTON.
RACE 3: MR XXXX H'CAP - 1400M.
Stewards permitted the late withdrawal of EUROTEC at 8 a.m.. Trainer D. Graham was fined the sum of $200 for failing to scratch EUROTEC by the prescribed time.
PALATINE jumped away awkwardly.
At the 1000m., PALATINE commenced to race awkwardly at the heels of BUSTER BALLOON and shifted out, making contact with ARKILLION.
When cramped for room by outside runners at the 900m., RED PILL was inclined to lay in, resulting in TYQUALO having to be steadied. BUSTER BALLOON, which was following, lost ground when restrained off the heels of TYQUALO.
Rounding the home turn, PALATINE had to be steadied when held up and unable to improve.
B. Stewart, rider of RIGHTO, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift out abruptly at the 400m. at a stage when not clear of LADY ON A MISSION, causing that horse to be taken out on the GOLD ROUBLE, which was checked when tightened on to FREESPINS. B. Stewart was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to expire at midnight, 14 April 2002.
When attempting a run between AGITATOR and CELTIC DANE near the 300m. where there was doubtful room, CELTIC DANE shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip, resulting in PALATINE being severely checked. Stewards accepted that G. Schofield, rider of CELTIC DANE, immediately attempted to rectify CELTIC DANE'S outward movement.
RACE 4: MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION H'CAP - 2120M.
Stewards ordered the withdrawal of PROUD ASCOT at 8.30 a.m. under the powers of LR 44 when it was found that the gelding was stabled at a location other than the registered stable address of trainer R. Heathcote. An inquiry was opened into the bona fides of the training of PROUD ASCOT. After taking evidence from R. Heathcote, owner Mr G. Sitek, stable foreman, Mr B. Dais and stablehand Mis C. Remy. The inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
KREISLER'S JEWEL jumped away awkwardly and made contact with OUR GANG, resulting in KREISLER'S JEWEL losing ground.
BAY DUKE got its head up and overraced when steadied off the heels of BUNDEENA BOY, which shifted in at the 1700m..
On the home turn, KREISLER'S JEWEL became unbalanced after receiving contact from AWESOME EDGE, which attempted to shift out from behind NORTHERN HEIGHTS to obtain clear running.
RACE 5: TRANS CONTINENTALH'CAP - 1600M.
COME TO ORDER was slow to begin.
Soon after the start, both JACK'S ARRIVAL and NORTHERN INDIES were crowded for room between LA PHILOMENE, which was taken in by RAGNAR, and VALETTA FLYER, which shifted out.
Approaching the 600m., when pulling hard, GUIDANCE shifted out, forcing IN SINGAPORE wider on the track.
RACE 6: XXXX BITTER YOUNG MEMBERS CUP - 1500M.
Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for FREEDOM ROAD by the prescribed time.
RULENZA ROAD made the 600m. crossing awkwardly.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KIWI WARRIOR, M. Pelling stated that the horse only began to travel at the 600m. and sustained a run rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight, however only plugged to the line. He stated he was aware that the gelding was being trained for the Toowoomba Cup and in his view raced as if it was looking for a longer journey than the 1500 metres of today's event. A veterinary examination of KIWI WARRIOR failed to reveal any abnormality.
M. Lister, rider of the 3rd placegetter, FREEDOM ROAD, was reprimanded for weighing in in excess of .5 of a kilogram over his declared weight.
RACE 7: INTERFORMS H'CAP - 1400M.
As S. Galloway was to be overweight, R. Goltz was substituted as the rider of MELLIERI. In issuing a reprimand, stewards took into account S. Galloway's good record with regard to overweight infringements.
A veterinary examination of BAGOLINO, which failed to run on in the straight, failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 8: NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE H'CAP - 1300M.
SURF JESTER, which was kicked by another runner behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
On jumping away, MAGICO and VOWORANA were crowded for room between TALBINGO LAD and ARC RUN, both of which shifted ground.
Approaching the first turn, SURF JESTER threw its head repeatedly when restrained by its rider, G. Schofield. MAGICO, which was following, got its head up and tended to overace.
