QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT WED.13.11.02

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman), Mr A. Reardon, Mr G. Ireland, Mr C. McLune, Mr D. Hensler.

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 8M. ALL TRACK

GENERAL: As A. Kennedy was indisposed, M. Rodd was substituted as the rider of SILVANUS in race 4, and C. Reith as the rider of CONDAMINE LASS in race 5.

S. Katsidis was also indisposed and was replaced by J. Powell as the rider of SAHARA COVET in race 7, and J. Stanley as the rider of SPONGE BOB in race 8.


RACE 1: LORD MEDES H'CAP - 1200M.

Rounding the home turn, RISING SUCCESS shifted out to improve and brushed HEELS ON WHEELS.

DUKES UP was held up in the early stages of the straight.

Z. Purton reported that FREE RADICAL got its tongue over the bit.


RACE 2:FAUX TIARA H'CAP - 1600M.

For a considerable distance after leaving the 1300m., STASERA raced fiercely and had to be restrained away from the heels of GHENGIS KHAN on several occasions.

Approaching the home turn, REMABAY, when shifting out to improve, made heavy contact with GRANDE ARROW.

L. Morrison was dislodged from STASERA on return to scale.

GHENGIS KHAN was found to have bled from both nostrils following the race, and in accordance with A.R.53A(5), the horse will incur a lifetime ban from racing.

RACE 3: SASHA BIJOU H'CAP - 1200M.

BE NICE blundered on jumping away.

TWIGMOSITY was slow to begin.

Passing the 800m., HABITUE had to be restrained off the heels of ZAMAALA ROSE on a number of occasions.

CONFUGIMUS shifted out making the crossing at the 600m., taking TWIGMOSITY wider on the track.

PLAITED was inclined to hang out during running and rounding the home turn shifted out, taking
ZAMAALA ROSE wider.
RACE 4: RISING FEAR H'CAP - 2150M.

After passing the winning post on the first occasion, LUCKY TRADER and CENTRAL BANKER were momentarily cramped when racing inside DOWNTOWN DUBAI, which shifted in.

D. Craven, rider of ACTIVE REST, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1900m. he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LUCKY TRADER, which resulted in that horse having to be checked. D. Craven was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 16 November, and to expire at midnight 29 November 2002. When LUCKY TRADER made contact with ACTIVE REST in this incident, LUCKY TRADER sustained lacerations to the outside of the off foreleg. The club's veterinary surgeon also reported that ACTIVE REST was stripped in running.

Near the 1700m., DOWNTOWN DUBAI had to be restrained off the heels of COPPER COIN, which shifted in.

After leaving the 1700m., DOWNTOWN DUBAI and CENTRAL BANKER pulled hard and raced ungenerously when the pace slowed.

Approaching the 400m., CENTRAL BANKER had to be eased away from the heels of LUCKY TRADER, which shifted out to improve.

When taking a run in restricted room near the 200m. between LUCKY TRADER and SILVANUS, DOWNTOWN DUBAI was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of M. Rodd, rider of SILVANUS.

COPPER COIN, which tired badly over the concluding stages, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon following the race and was found to have bled from both nostrils. In accordance with the rules, COPPER COIN will now be barred from racing for a period of 3 months. A swab sample was taken from COPPER COIN. COPPER COIN was also found to have sustained a laceration to the off hind fetlock


RACE 5: HONDOMATIC H'CAP - 1200M.

CONDAMINE LASS, which bolted during its preliminary, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and he reported that the horse's respiration and pulse rates were elevated. CONDAMINE LASS was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2.42 p.m.. Following the late withdrawal, all monies invested on CONDAMINE LASS were ordered to be refunded in full, with deductions made in accordance with the Racing and Betting Act - i.e. 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of successful win and place bets placed prior to the withdrawal time.

DR. FRED, which was kicked by another runner behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

ANAHEART, which proved difficult to load, resulting in the start being delayed, was declared ineligible to race until it passes another barrier test.

PHILP jumped inwards at the start, making contact with SOLARUS.

OUR PROUD TIGER, which tired badly over the concluding stages, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon, and at the time of examination nothing was found to be amiss with the gelding.

G. Baker reported that TRUE CONFESSIONS failed to stretch out and may not have appreciated the hard track.


RACE 6: OPPRESSOR H'CAP - 1000M.

Trainer K. Lantry was fined $100 for failing to produce the Document of Description for MACALBERT.

MACALBERT shifted out at the start, making heavy contact with ELECTRICITY.

B. Albuino, rider of EXTERNAL FLAME, was cautioned for permitting his mount to shift in leaving the 900m., causing BEAUTY KINGDOM and ELECTRICITY to be inconvenienced.

JANADI and MACALBERT made contact shortly after leaving the 800m..

Near the 300m., HOW HIGH SIR had to be steadied when cramped for room by BEAUTY KINGDOM, which shifted in. M. Crawford, rider of BEAUTY KINGDOM, was advised to exercise more care in future.


RACE 7: TREASURY CASINO H'CAP - 1400M.

As S. Katsidis was indisposed, J. Powell was substituted as the rider of SAHARA COVET and J. Stanley as the rider of SPONGE BOB (Race 8).

Trainer E. Ropiha was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for OSCA WARRIOR by the prescribed time.

G. Duffy, rider of HUGE JET, was reprimanded for shifting in shortly after the start, forcing MARIDPOUR in on to BLESSED TYCOON and RED INTRO, which were both tightened for room.

Approaching the 1200m., OSCA WARRIOR and ALL CHEER were cramped for room by AULD HAT, which shifted in.

After leaving 1100m., BLESSED TYCOON had to be checked when tightened by FORGING'S LAD, which raced ungenerously when improving quickly to the inside of MARIDPOUR, which shifted in slightly.

RACE 8: WHETU H'CAP - 1400M.

SPONGE BOB had difficulty gaining clear running over the concluding stages of the race.

S. McLean reported that RYTHMIC CHIEF overraced during the event and felt this was attributable to the horse racing with the blinkers back on.

ALL WINNERS AND COPPER COIN WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
