WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 2.5M. ALL TRACK
RACE 1: EASY NOW H'CAP - 1000M.
KAS NEDIYM jumped outwards at the start, hampering LION ERROR and ON BLU BAYOU.
CHAPEAU BRILLANT was slow to begin.
LOULI and FRENCHY came together at the start.
VICTORY DOLLAR began awkwardly.
When racing greenly, INKY WINKY shifted out at the 600m., inconveniencing ON BLUE BAYOU.
At the 250m., VICTORY DOLLAR had to be steadied away from the heels of FRENCHY, which commenced to lay out when placed under pressure.
RACE 2: VEIL KINGDOM H'CAP - 1600M.
After passing the 1400m., GLEN MONARCH began to overrace at the heels of DOOGALL'S LUCK and shifted in, making contact with LUSKIN DREAMS
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of D'ARGENT FILLE, B Stewart stated when the pace quickened approaching the turn, the mare was unable to accelerate and subsequently failed to run on in the straight. B. Stewart further added that D'ARGENT FILLE felt rather flat and the only explanation he was able to offer for the performance was that the mare may not have backed up from its run on the previous Saturday. A veterinary examination of D'ARGENT FILLE failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 3: EVASION H'CAP - 1812M.
Trainer L. Hatch was advised that MR. FIORELLI, which proved unruly in the enclosure and during the preliminary, would be required to trial to the satisfaction of the stewards prior to its next race start. Mr Hatch was further advised that if the gelding performs in a similar manner again on raceday, the stewards would consider recommending to the Committee that the gelding's future nominations be refused.
Passing the 300m., BLESSED TYCOON had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ARDOSH, which shifted out to improve.
A veterinary examination of ZUCCARO, which compounded badly in the straight after leading, revealed the gelding to be suffering from heart arrythmia. A swab sample was taken from ZUCCARO. Stable foreman L. Yoemans, representing trainer B.W. Guy, was advised that prior to ZUCCARO racing again the gelding must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. He was also advised that stewards would require to be furnished with a full veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG test.
RACE 4: QLD COUNTRY MEAT PROCESSORS ASSOCIATION H'CAP - 1200M.
Trainer B. McLachlan was advised that SPORTS CLASS, which proved troublesome during the preliminary and refused to proceed to the start in a normal manner, will be required to trial again prior to its next race start.
FOR LOVE was slow to begin.
GLENNAL and ACE OF FRANCE were obliged raced wide throughout the race.
START ME UP tailed off throughout the event and raced uncompetitively. When questioned, G. Duffy stated that the gelding refused to stretch out and despite his urgings for the majority of the event, START ME UP failed to make any impression on the rest of the field. A veterinary examination of START ME UP following the event failed to reveal any abnormality. Trainer I. O'Neill was advised that START ME UP must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.
RACE 5: OUR JUG QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1300M.
K. Yoshida, rider of WILLO ROSE, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in on the first turn when not clear of DANU, resulting in DANU having to be steadied. When DANU lost ground, PROUDLY AGRO was obliged to shift out abruptly off the heels of that horse and was forced wider on the track. PROUDLY AGRO continued to race very wide throughout the remainder of the event.
After leaving the 800m., GASCONNADE hung out for a short distance, forcing UPWORDS and NORTHERN FORCE wider on the track.
When initially placed under pressure by its rider, G. Colless, approaching the 200m., MUSTANG MAGIC shifted in momentarily, resulting in the tiring JAZZ FUND being checked. Stewards were satisfied that G. Colless responded immediately and made every endeavor to straighten the gelding. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that MUSTANG MAGIC had sustained a laceration to the inside of the near hock.
A veterinary examination was also conducted on JAZZ FUND, which compounded badly in the straight. This inspection failed to reveal any abnormality. When questioned G. Baker stated that when left in the lead, JASS FUND refused to settle and raced far too hard, which resulted in the gelding tiring badly in the straight.
A Veterinary examination of PROUDLY AGRO following the event failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that NORTHERN FORCE had sustained a laceration to the front of the off fore coronary band.
Trainer S. Tregea reported that UPWORDS was galloped on and had cast its off hind plate in running.
RACE 6: QUEENSLAND CUP - 3200M.
At the 2600m., TELL DARCY lost a little ground when momentarily cramped for room by DEERHILL.
When GENTLEMAN CALLER shifted out to improve at the 600m., YUPPIE and GILLESPIE were forced wider on the track.
Stewards questioned, jockey D. McLellan and stable representative Mr A. Denham regarding GILLESPIE settling in a rearward position. Mr Denham explained that he had instructed D. McLellan to ride the gelding in a more forward position and anticipated GILLESPIE would settle forward of midfield. D. McLellan explained that GILLESPIE did not jump cleanly and despite being urged along initially, he lost any advantage provided by the 1 barrier when the gelding sustained tightening from runners to its outside. He further stated that as a result of the tightening, and a deal of pace early in the event, GILLESPIE was a victim of circumstances and subsequently settled near the tail of the field.
The club's veterinary surgeon reported that ARCHIDAMIA was found to be suffering from severe heat stress following the event.
RACE 7: PLAYGROUND & RECREATION ASSOCIATION H'CAP - 1200M.
When The Expat assumed the lead passing the 900m., GOLDEN EYE shifted out from behind that horse, resulting in MISTER OMEGA and BAAL YABBA both having to be steadied.
WYNGROVE was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
RACE 8: HOT RECEPTION H'CAP - 1400M.
STONY GROVE began awkwardly.
After being held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight, GET GOING had to be checked off the heels of GOLD BOLERO,which shifted in and away from FORGING'S LAD approaching the 100m..
ALL WINNERS AND ZUCCARO WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
