QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT THURS.26.12.02

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD RAIL - 4.5M. ALL TRACK


RACE 1: LAUREL PARK H'CAP - 1200M.

At the 1000m., WAWEE had to be restrained off the heels of POSH TOUCH, which in turn had to be steadied to avoid the heels of BOMBAY SAPPIRE, which shifted in. S. Katsidis, rider of BOMBAY SAPPHIRE, was reminded of his obligations to provide 2 lengths clearance when shifting ground.

When questioned, S. Katsidis stated that BOMBAY SAPPHIRE dipped on a number of occasions during the event and was also inclined to hang out. A veterinary examination of BOMBAY SAPPHIRE failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 2: BELMONT PARK H'CAP - 1000M.

BLUE FANTASY jumped away awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

CALL THE HUNTER was also a little slow to begin.

After being steadied to avoid the heels of MR CHEVY, which shifted in at the 900m., KOOTENAY was further hampered by SPEEDIE GONZALES, which shifted out a short distance later.

When steadied by its rider, IN THE JUNGLE threw its head up and lost ground approaching the 800m..

Just prior to the finish line, C. Spry, rider of the 5th placegeter, CONISTON'S WARRIOR, was obliged to stop riding due to his mount being inclined to lay in on to the inside running rail.

P. Hammersley, rider of the equal first placegetter, BLITZ, was also obliged to stop riding close to the finish line due to his mount shifting in under pressure.

When questioned, G. Colless stated that after beginning quite well, he allowed KOOTENAY to find its feet in compliance with his instructions to ride the filly quietly given the anticipated good speed in the race. He added that KOOTENAY failed to run on as anticipated in the straight and proved most disappointing. A veterinary examination of KOOTENAY revealed the filly to have sustained a graze to the outside of the off fore tendon, which in the opinion of the club's veterinary surgeon could have had a marked effect on the filly's performance.


RACE 3:WOODBINE H'CAP - 1000M.

Trainer S.B. Laming was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for WATERED DOWN by the prescribed time.

GEMTIME missed the start badly. Trainer S. Dwyer was advised that GEMTIME would be required to pass a further barrier test prior to its next race start.

DAME NOVA blundered badly as the start was effected and shifted out, inconveniencing LOVE TO WIN.

ORIENTAL PEACE and FOR CERTAIN were slow to begin.

WATERED DOWN began awkwardly.


RACE 4:ARLINGTON H'CAP - 1400M.
.
Stable foreman Mr R. Dias was advsied that a $25 was being applied for presenting TYALGUM POP without a tongue-tie.

MISTER OBLIGING raced ungenerously when restrained by its rider in the early stages.

FORGING'S LAD, which had a tendency to overrace, was placed in restricted room when FRENCH MOVIE STAR shifted in momentarily at the 1000m... M. Pelling, rider of FRENCH MOVIE STAR, was cautioned.

C. Spry, rider of XANTRA, accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 100m..

When questioned, L. Morrison stated that FORGING'S LAD did not settle in the early stages of the race and subsequently failed to run on. She added that when previously successful on FORGING'S LAD, the horse raced more truly when racing with cover.


RACE 5:SANTA ANITA H'CAP - 1823M.

In the early stages of the straight, REPRENDRE was held up for clear running behind the tiring BENO.

DISTRACTION hung in under pressure near the 200m., hampering PRAYDOO. DISTRACTION continued to hang in under pressure in the run to the finish line, preventing its rider, K. Yoshida from being able to fully test that gelding.

When being pulled up, GLEN MONARCH whipped around, dislodging its rider, J. Powell. J. Powell was examined by the club's doctor who reported that although sustaining bruising to the right knee, he was fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.


RACE 6: AQUEDUCT H'CAP - 1200M.

In the middle stages, MISTER OMEGA was inclined to hang out when racing fiercely. A veterinary examination of MISTER OMEGA failed to reveal any abnormality.

C. Reith, rider of the winner, BLUR, was fined $200 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the finish line.





RACE 7:CHURCHILL DOWNS H'CAP - 1200M.

Due to transport breakdown, BALLANULLY was declared a late withdrawal at 11.38 a.m..

Approaching the first turn, SAHARA MACA had to be restrained after improving up inside the heels of ACE CLUB where there was insufficient room.

NOTHIN' LEICA ROSE hung out under pressure over the concluding stages.

NOTHIN' LEICA ROSE broke down after the winning post. The club's veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding had fractured its near fore leg and was euthased on humane grounds.


RACE 8:HOLLYWOOD PARK H'CAP - 1500M.

Trainer J. Wade was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for RISING ROYAL by the prescribed time.

Apprentice P. Hammersley, rider of TOOT 'N' GO, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at the 1100m. when not clear of SPONGE BOB, resulting in SPONGE BOB being tightened on to MANREGO, which in turn shifted in, tightening CANTANTES on to THRONG, which had to be checked. In assessing this incident, stewards took into account TOOT 'N' GO was inclined to shift in and away from KIDBURG.

M. McDonald, rider of SPONGE BOB, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1000m., he permitted his mount to shift in, resulting in MANREGO being checked when tightened for room.. M. McDonald was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 29 December and to expire at midnight, 9 January 2002.

When attempting to improve between TOOT 'N' GO and SPONGE BOB on the home turn, PHILP had to be steadied momentarily when SPONGE BOB shifted out. PHILP then was held up for a short distance in the early stages of the straight.

THRONG was also held up for clear running from the entrance to the straight until the 250m..


ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
