QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT.31.5.03

WEATHER - OVERCAST TRACK - DEAD RAIL - TRUE POSITION


RACE 1: CAPALABO MEDICAL CENTRE H'CAP - 2200M.

GENERAL MINOLTA was slow to begin.

Approaching the 200m., AL MEGDAM shifted in slightly, taking AWESOME WEATHER in on to SUPER GRADES, which in turn shifted in slightly, tightening the running of LORDNOR, which in turn had to be checked to avoid the heels of HOMEMAKER, which also shifted out slightly.

J. Cassidy reported that AL MEGDAM brushed the starting gates on jumping away, which resulted in his right foot being dislodged from the stirrup iron. He added that it took him a short time to regain the use of the iron, and as a result he settled further back in the field than he had anticipated.


RACE 2: HOTEL LA H'CAP - 1300M.

CONSIGLIERE was declared a late scratching at 12.33 p.m. when that horse was not presented on course. An inquiry into this matter was adjourned to allow trainer B. McLachlan to present further evidence. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on CONSIGLIERE were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.

TAHITIAN STAR, which was kicked in the off abdomen behind the barriers, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

Near the 700m., ARCHITRAVE raced in restricted room between BRITISH LION and LAMOND, which shifted out slightly.

At the entrance to the straight, ARCHITRAVE again was inconvenienced when tightened for room between CROWN REGATTA and BRITISH LION.

AMEX was obliged to race wide throughout the event, and near the 100m. was briefly hampered by MINING SILVER, which shifted in.

BRITISH LION had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

BILLY JARRAH broke down in the near fore leg after leaving the 200m.. BILLY JARRAH was euthanased on humane grounds.






RACE 3: WANLESS WASTECORP DANE RIPPER H'CAP - 1300M.

Stewards acceded to a request from trainer G. Hill to withdraw SASSI SWITCH from this event. SASSY SWITCH was subsequently declared a late scratching at 9.38 a.m.. Trainer G. Hill was fined the sum of $200 for failing to scratch the mare by the required time.

TYPIFY was slow to begin.

OOMPH blundered on jumping away.

SHA ALMA began awkwardly.

CHENAR was obliged to race wide throughout and on the home turn was forced wider on the track by OTTAVIA, which shifted out.

L. Innes, rider of DANART, accidentally dropped his whip at the 300m..


RACE 4: SIR EDWARD WILLIAMS H'CAP - 1500M

RAW INSTINCT was slow to begin.

MAGIQUE SKY jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Approaching the first turn, TIMBER TYCOON had to be restrained to avoid the heels of PROUDLY AGRO, which shifted in.

GOLD CLASS pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

THIS MANSHOOD was obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.

S. Galloway was questioned regarding the performance of HOSANNAH. S. Galloway stated that he believed the mare was not suited by the tempo of the race in the early stages, and whilst the mare gave him the impression she was going to finish close to the placegetters approaching the 200m, her finishing effort was only fair. He added that, in his opinion, HOSANNAH does not appreciate racing on tracks that are rain affected. A veterinary examination of HOSANNAH failed to reveal any abnormality.


RACE 5: BORRELLI HAND-MADE CLOTHING SIRES' PRODUCE STAKES - 1400M.

CELADON was slow to begin.

RINKY DINK raced in restricted room between BUSHLAND and IN TOP SWING for some distance after leaving the 1000m..

Near the 900m., IN TOP SWING had to be steadied off the heels of SIR SUCCESS.

At the entrance to the straight, SIR SUCCESS and SAMMY SEQUALO made contact.


Approaching the 200m., IN TOP SWING shifted out under pressure, making contact with SHAMEKHA, which resulted in SHAMEKHA being tightened for room between that runner and SIR SUCCESS. C. Carmody, rider of IN TOP SWING, was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Near the 150m., WINDY KATE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of AMBULANCE, which shifted out. S. Galloway, rider of AMBULANCE, was severely reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances to be fully clear when shifting ground.

Close to the finish line, CELEDON was hampered when tightened for room between RINKY DINK and BUSKING.

An inquiry has been adjourned into M. Rodd's riding tactics on PICADAY to enable trainer Mr B. McLachlan, to be present.


RACE 6: JOE RICHARDS MENSWEAR QUEENSLAND OAKS - 2400M.

On return to scale, a protest was lodged by G. Childs, rider of the 2nd placegetter, THE JEWEL, against ZAGALIA being declared the winner, alleging interference from the 600m. to the finish line. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the official film, stewards found that whilst THE JEWEL was impeded and taken wider approaching the 200m., and then again obliged to alter course to the inside of ZAGALIA near the 100m. when that filly again shifted out, they were not satisfied that there should be a reversal of placings bearing in mind the 2 lengths margin between both horses at the finish. C. Munce rider of ZAGALIA, was severely reprimanded and advised that in future he must straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion when they shift ground.

G. Childs, rider of THE JEWEL, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift in near the 650m. when not clear of NATURAL THUNDER, resulting in NATURAL THUNDER having to be checked. G. Childs was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 5 June, and to expire at midnight 18 June 2003. G. Childs was also fined the sum of $3000.

A veterinary examination of JAMEELA revealed the filly had sustained a laceration below the off stifle.


RACE 7: BORRELLI AT JOE RICHARDS QTC CUP - 1200M.

Due to the delay caused by the protest in race 6, the starting time for this event was amended to 4.10 p.m. and 4.50 p.m. for race 8.

Permission was granted for J. Byrne to ride 1.5 kilograms overweight on STORMCAT ACADEMY as there was no other suitable rider

D. Evans (SHOCKEROO) was fined $200 for change his riding boots after weighing out and for being late to scale.

DAMIGOS was very slow to jump.

After leaving the 1000m., SALGADO was tightened for room between KNICKERBOCKER KID and JAR JAR BINKS, which was taken in slightly by COSMIC RAYS.

Approaching the 600m., BRADSHAW shifted in, inconveniencing COSMIC RAYS.

After leaving the crossing, BRADSHAW became unbalanced.

MAKE MINE MAGIC was obliged to race wide throughout the event.

A veterinary examination of POLYGRAM following the event revealed the gelding to have sustained several lacerations to the outside of the off hind cannon and fetlock, and also lost the off hind plate.


RACE 8: SUNRIPE FRUIT & VEG P J O'SHEA STAKES - 2400M.

As D. Nikolic, rider of WE'RE DANCING, had left the racecourse without stewards' permission, an inquiry was adjourned into the reason for WE'RE DANCING being checked approaching the winning post on the first occasion.

After leaving the winning post on the first occasion, HOMEWRECKER was tightened for room between COUNTY TYRONE and WE'RE DANCING, which was taken in slightly by KREISLER MIRAGE.

M. Rodd reported that BUSH PADRE pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

Approaching the 1200m., VICTORY SMILE shifted out abruptly, forcing HENDERSON BAY wider on the track.

Near the 350m., HOMEWRECKER had to be checked off the heels of FREEMASON when attempting to take a run in restricted room between that gelding and WE'RE DANCING, which shifted out slightly.

A veterinary examination of FREEMASON following the event revealed the gelding to have suffered a laceration to the outside of the off hind fetlock.


ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
