QLD TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 20.9.03

STEWARDS PANEL: Mr J. Hackett (Chairman), Mr G. Hargraves, Mr W. Geggie, Mr W. Flynn, Mr C. Waller (Cadet).

WEATHER - FINE TRACK - GOOD RAIL - 4M. ALL TRACK

RACE 1: AQUA ON ADELAIDE H'CAP - 2200M.

UPPITY was cramped for room at the start between SPECIAL JEUNEY and CAPTAIN ZIGZAG.

Near the 200m., HANGING BASKET became unbalanced when it shifted in and away from EYES FOREVER, which had secured a run around the heels of UPPITY.

Stewards questioned J. Powell, rider of EYES FOREVER, as to whether his saddle had shifted in the middle stages. J. Powell stated that due to the horse's confirmation he was over its neck in the middle stages, which may have given the impression the saddle had shifted, however he confirmed he experienced no difficulties with the saddle.

RACE 2: BEENLEIGH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE H'CAP - 1820M.

ICY PRIDE was inclined to pull hard in the middle stages.

J. Warrington was fined $200 for using his whip excessively on ICY PRIDE when it was out of contention.

RACE 3: SPITWATER H'CAP - 1500M.

NO STOPS and FUJI BELLE made heavy contact at the start. A short distance after the start, NO STOPS and FUJI BELLE were tightened between ROADSPY and AGGRO when both horses shifted ground.

G. Colless reported that AGGRO was inclined to hang out in running.

S. Katsidis and trainer R. McCall were interviewed in relation to the disappointing performance of ROADSPY, which compounded over the concluding stages. S. Katsidis stated that the horse did not travel well in running and was of the opinion ROADSPY was better suited when able to lead without pressure. Trainer R. McCall was unable to offer any explanation for the performance and undertook to inform stewards of anything that may come to his notice in the following days that may have had an effect on the horse's performance. A veterinary examination of ROADSPY failed to reveal any abnormality.

RACE 4: THE COFFEE CLUB - 1200M.
.
HELTER SKELTER and STAR GROOM jumped awkwardly.

STAR GROOM overraced approaching the first turn and refused to settle for some distance.

SAHARA JAY raced wide for the majority of the race

On straightening, BLOODLINE was disappointed for a run between SAHARA JAY and OUR RIO.

S. Galloway reported that BLOODLINE did not travel well in running and despite being disappointed for a run at the top of the straight, the filly ran home only fairly. Trainer's representative M. Hawkes stated that as a result of the wide alley, BLOODLINE was positioned back in the field further than expected and may not have been suited by the pattern on the race, particularly the fast pace in the early stages.

RACE 5: RIVER 94.9, THE HIT MUSIC STATION H'CAP - 1000M.

YOU DON'T LOVE ME was slow to jump.

Inside the 700m., DOODA HUCKLEBUCK raced in restricted room inside FIRES OF IRELAND. Approaching the crossing at the 600m., DOODA HUCKLEBUCK had to be checked to avoid the heels of DISTINCTIVE DANCER, which was momentarily tightened when racing in restricted room inside GOLD EYE.

RACE 6: DEAN MILLER 4 BREAKFAST H'CAP - 1200M.

ON THE LIST and ALPINE EXPRESS came together at the start.

Making the first turn, ON THE LIST was inclined to lay in, resulting in ANIMATE racing in restricted room.

Leaving the 800m., ANIMATE faltered when being steadied off the heels of KING LOTTO.

JEUNE'S JESTER raced wide throughout the race.

RACE 7: GOLDIE AND THE KID H'CAP - 1200M.

A warning was issued to the connections of NORTHERN CRUSADER, which proved difficult to load.

At the 800m., SEANZA had to be eased off the heels of DANCING HILL. VITAL ASSET, which was following, also had to be eased off the heels of SEANZA.

Near the 800m., the saddle on CELTIC DANE shifted when racing in restricted room inside GRAMERCY. K. Pope, rider of CELTIC DANE, was placed at a distinct disadvantage for the remainder of the race. FIRE BRIGHT, which was trailing CELTIC DANE, had to be checked to avoid that horse's heels.

The connections of POWER SURGE were questioned in relation to the riding tactics adopted, particularly in the early stages. A. Pattillo stated that he had been instructed to endeavor to take up a forward position, however from the wide barrier, and after jumping away awkwardly, the horse was caught wide and he endeavoured to find a position with cover. He stated after being unsuccessful, the horse was obliged to race 3 wide for the remainder of the race.

RACE 8: JULIANNA THE PSEXY PSYCHIC H'CAP - 1400M.

Trainer M. Crouch was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for TOBIANA by the prescribed time.

SILVERTHORNE jumped outwards at the start, forcing GEIGER DRAGON out on to the hind quarters of GOOD TIMING. A short distance later, SILVERTHORNE and GEIGER DRAGON had to be checked when tightened between TOBIANA, which shifted out, and GOOD TIMING, which shifted in after receiving contact on its hind quarters. As a result of losing ground at the start, K. Pope reported that as GEIGER DRAGON'S pattern of racing is to race near the lead, he elected to go forward, however after having to make use of the horse to obtain a forward position, he endeavoured to restrain the gelding to gain a position with cover approaching the first turn. K. Pope stated that the horse resented being restrained and was inclined to race fiercely, and the combination of the horse losing ground at the start, working hard to gain a forward position and racing fiercely resulted in GEIGER DRAGON compounding over the concluding stages.

Rounding the home turn, TOBIANA attempted to improve around the heels of GEIGER DRAGON and made contact with SILVERTHORNE.

Also on straightening, TYCOON ROSE shifted out, taking MIGHTY BLAZE out on to BRIGHTFIRE LAD. TYCOON ROSE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Near the 200m., TOBIANA was inconvenienced and lost ground when racing in restricted room between the tiring GEIGER DRAGON and SILVERTHORNE, which was inclined to lay in.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
