WEATHER - FINE TRACK - DEAD RAIL - 3M ALL TRACK
RACE 1: TATTERSALL'S H'CAP - 2118M.
MOROCCAN BOY hung in for the entire race. Trainer R. Christsen was advised that a warning would be placed on MOROCCAN BOY in relation to its racing manners.
Trainer A. Bailey was questioned concerning the disappointing performance of DASH ON RUBY. A. Bailey stated that the mare had worked well leading into today's event and could offer no excuse for the performance other than the mare may not have appreciated today's track conditions. A veterinary examination of DASH ON RUBY failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 2: HARDY BROTHERS JEWELLERS H'CAP - 1400M.
Trainer M. Brosnan was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for WAITAWHERO GOLD by the prescribed time.
Due to transport difficulties, M. Rice was unable to fulfil his engagement on BOLD MOLLY. G. McKeon was substituted as the rider of that mare.
BOLD MOLLY jumped away awkwardly.
SHA ALMA and DANTIBES' TREASURE were slow to begin.
Approaching the 1300m., SHEER DEVOTION shifted in, tightening the running of INATIN and SENSIBLE.
After passing the 1000m., SHA ALMA shifted out, forcing FASHION JEWELS wider on the track.
Approaching the 800m., SHEER DEVOTION had to be steadied off the heels of CHICKEN LITTLE and shifted out, forcing INATIN wider on the track.
Near the 200m., SHEER DEVOTION was tightened for room between VICTORY GROVE and CHICKEN LITTLE, which shifted out.
A veterinary examination of SENSIBLE following the event revealed the mare had severed its superficial flexor tendon on the off hind leg.
RACE 3: COLORADO QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP - 1200M.
Due to transport difficulties, K. Pope was unable to fulfil his engagement on ELEGANT ANGELA and was replaced by S. Katsidis.
As a result of traffic delays, SERENOTE, SMALL PLANET, CHOLLA and ELEGANT ANGELA arrived late on course. Prior to the commencement of betting, each horse was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed to race.
SMALL PLANET was slow to begin.
REALITY jumped awkwardly.
JIMIDEAN shifted outwards at the start and lost considerable ground.
LOUGHNAN shifted out shortly after the start and made contact with CRAIGLEA PATH.
STAR CHARIOT attempted to buck shortly after the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer L. Ross advised that it was his intention to spell STAR CHARIOT and undertook to officially trial the horse prior to its next race start.
At approximately the 1100m., CHOLLA was tightened for room by REALITY, which was momentarily taken in by DOONAN.
Approaching the 1000m., STAR CHARIOT had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SMALL PLANET, which shifted in.
After leaving the 800m., REALITY shifted out, inconveniencing SEQUALO FAIR.
Near the 500m., LOUGHNAN shifted in and made heavy contact with SMALL PLANET, causing that horse to become unbalanced.
At the entrance to the straight, ELEGANT ANGELA shifted out and made contact with REALITY.
RACE 4: MATHERS H'CAP - 1400M.
TELE SERIES jumped away awkwardly.
WHAT A GUY was forced to race wide on the 1000m. turn.
Near the 500m., VALIANT DANE shifted out to improve, forcing TYALGUM POP and VISCAY STAR wider on the track.
Approaching the home turn, TELE SERIES was held up for clear running, and after leaving the 400m. had to be checked off the heels of WHAT A GUY.
After passing the 400m., LITTLE PUNC shifted out from behind the heels of KILLACHI, making contact with WHAT A GUY, forcing that gelding wider on the track.
Leaving the 200m., LITTLE PUNC shifted out and brushed VALIANT DANE.
RACE 5: NATIONAL JOCKEY CELEBRATION DAY H'CAP - 1600M.
SAMMY, which arrived late on course due to traffic delays, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed to race.
LOUIS THE LIP was slow to begin.
RACE 6: TETTERSALL'S MEMBERS' CUP - 1600M.
MAKE ME A MIRACLE was slow to begin.
Trainer N. Peterson was questioned concerning the improved performance of CELTIC TRIAL as compared to its effort when second-last at Doomben on 6 March.. Mr Peterson explained that connections had requested him to spell the gelding when they were of the opinion that CELTIC TRIAL may have reached the end of its preparation, however after receiving a favourable blood test he elected to freshen CELTIC TRIAL for today's event. He also attributed the improved performance to the substantial weight drop of 5 kilograms from the gelding's previous start.
Following the event, the club's veterinary surgeon reported that WARRIOR TRADER was suffering from heat stress. Trainer M. Thexton will be interviewed in relation to the future racing of WARRIOR TRADER.
RACE 7: HAMILTON HOTEL QTIS ADDED STAKES - 1200M.
CRAIGLEA QUEEN and EFFECTIVELY came together on jumping away.
Near the 1100m., STEEL CAP shifted in, tightening the running of POWER AND GOLD, EFFECTIVELY and CRAIGLEA QUEEN.
Approaching the first turn, PICARDI RUN was inclined to overrace when being steadied.
At the entrance to the straight, SAN DEL AQUILA shifted out, making contact with MR SEQUENTIAL, taking that gelding out on to BRIDGE TO VICTORY.
RACE 8: IPG PRINT H'CAP - 1000M.
KOOCHIE blundered on jumping away.
Approaching the home turn, TOM COUREUSE shifted out from behind the heels of ZOOFEAR, which was tiring, and made contact with SEA ROVER. HOT CYMBAL, which was following, had to be steadied.
Over the concluding stages, DEVIL was held up for clear running.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
