QUEENSLAND TURF CLUB STEWARDS REPORT SAT. 20.03.04

WEATHER – FINE TRACK – GOOD RAIL – OUT 5M

RACE 1: DMC PROMOTIONS QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1300M

On return to scale J. Byrne, rider of 4th placegetter SEA DRIVE, lodged an objection against STAR OF ASIA being declared 3rd, alleging interference at the 800m. Whilst it was acknowledged that J. Byrne had sufficient grounds to lodge an objection, stewards were not of the opinion that the interference suffered at that stage of the race warranted a reversal of placings and therefore dismissed the objection.

Near the 800m STAR OF ASIA, when being restrained, shifted in slightly, inconveniencing SEA DRIVE. SEQUALO FAIR, which was following, had to be steadied in this incident.

FIZZY GIRL lost its off fore plate in running.

RACE 2: TRANSASIA PACIFIC PROJECTS QTIS ADDED STAKES H'CAP – 1400M

At the entrance to the straight LOVE AND GOLD shifted out to improve and made contact with BUSHLAND.

J. Powell reported that he had been instructed to ride SHORE back in the field, however after travelling a short distance the horse was obliged to race wide and therefore he elected to allow the colt to stride forward and gain a position outside the leader.

S. Galloway reported that VICTORY GROVE was unable to sprint when the pace quickened after leaving the 600m and he was of the opinion that the filly may not have appreciated racing on three consecutive Saturdays. A veterinary examination of VICTORY GROVE failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.

The Club's veterinary surgeon reported that DODGEM sustained an abrasion above the off shoulder as a result of being kicked in the enclosure following the event.

RACE 3: HARDY'S SIR JAMES H'CAP – 1200M

Trainer L. Paton was fined $50 for failing to present RUSTIC TREASURE on course by the prescribed time.

SUMMER FABLE was slow to begin.

CLEOPATRA'S NEEDLE raced wide throughout.

Near the 700m STAR OF FLIGHT struck the heels of SUMMER EYES, blundered, shifted in and made contact with the running rail.

Apprentice A. Best reported that for some distance in the straight he had difficulty using his whip when it became entangled in the reins.

RACE 4: GILSHENAN & LUTON PLATE – 1200M

L. Morrison, the rider of ON THE LIST, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 1100m, she permitted her mount to shift in taking SHOW BIZ KID in on to VIVID MISS which had to be checked. L. Morrison was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Thursday, 25 March, and expire on Wednesday, 7 April 2004.

Approaching the 1000m DAMIGOS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SHOW BIZ KID which was taken in by ON THE LIST.

S. Katsidis reported that DAMIGOS was inclined to hang out from after leaving the 800m.

Near the 300m VIVID MISS had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ELITE TED which was taken out by SHOW BIZ KID.

RACE 5: GUINNESS H'CAP – 1600M

KENMONT jumped awkwardly.

REVOLUTIONS shifted in at the start, taking IMAGE OF REALITY in on to BATTLE TOWER.

CHIMING MILL shifted out shortly after the start and made contact with COSMIC COMET.

ARI BANU pulled fiercely in the early stages.

FARISIKNOW raced wide throughout the event.

REVOLUTIONS was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

After leaving the 400m FARISIKNOW had to be checked off the heels of the tiring BATTLE TOWER.

Near the 200m APPLEBY shifted out, inconveniencing COSMIC COMET which had also been held up for clear running.

Near the 150m APPLEBY raced in restricted room for a short distance between CHIMING MILL and ARI BANU, and in this incident APPLEBY was accidentally struck across the head by the whip of G. Colless, the rider of CHIMING MILL.

A veterinary examination of BLU SKY MINING failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.

RACE 6: QUEENSLAND IRISH ASSOCIATION CUP – 1826M

Shortly after the start MAKE ME A MIRACLE was tightened for room between SACRA CLAUSE and THE SECONDMORTGAGE.

SCENIC WELLS commenced to pull hard in the early stages and near the 1200m shifted out from behind the heels of WISHART, obliging SCENIC WELLS to race in a three wide position until assuming a position outside the leader near the 1000m.

GENESIS shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

J. Powell could offer no excuses for the disappointing performance of THE SECONDMORTGAGE. Trainer D. Sutton also could offer no excuses but undertook to advise stewards of anything that comes to light in the following days which may explain the performance. A veterinary examination of THE SECONDMORTGAGE failed to reveal any abnormality and a swab sample was taken.

GENESIS lost its off fore plate in running.

RACE 7: WATERFORD WEDGWOOD H'CAP – 1400M

GLEN MONARCH was declared a late scratching at 2.30 p.m. acting on veterinary advice that the gelding had heat and swelling on the inside of the near foreleg.

A Best was substituted as the rider of COUNTER AGENT when D. Gay became indisposed after riding at the Gold Coast.

Passing the 1000m JOHANN LOVER shifted in inconveniencing COUNTER AGENT. As a result, COUNTER AGENT raced in restricted room for some distance and near the 800m shifted towards the rail, obliging SINOWIN to be eased.

CHEAM was obliged to race wide throughout.

For some distance in the early stages of the straight COUNTER AGENT was held up for clear running behind STARS IN BARS and JOHANN LOVER.

Over the concluding stages JOHANN LOVER was inclined to lay in under pressure.

SINOWIN bled during the event. As this was the first occasion on which SINOWIN had bled, the gelding will incur a mandatory three-month bar from racing. A swab sample was taken from SINOWIN.

RACE 8: AUSTRALIAN SELF STORAGE STRATHPINE H'CAP – 1200M

GLOUCESTER ROAD was slow to begin.

TOM COUREUSE, SIR BISC and CUT OF DIAMONDS jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the first turn DIFFICULT had to be restrained to avoid the heels of SO EQUAL which shifted in momentarily.

SIR BISC was obliged to race wide throughout and was inclined to hang out after leaving the 500m.

Approaching the 400m ESSJAYPEE was disappointed for a run between GUNGADIN and GLOUCESTER ROAD and as a result made contact with GLOUCESTER ROAD.

J. Powell reported that JAZZ FUND was inclined to hang out throughout the event.


ALL WINNERS, VICTORY GROVE, BLU SKY MINING, THE SECONDMORTGAGE AND SINOWIN WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
