RAIL - TRUE POSITION
RACE 1: BAXTER HEALTHCARE PLATE - 1400M.
EXPERIENCE was hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room between MR HOOVER and REGAL GARTER, which shifted out.
Passing the 1200m., NOSEY MAN had to be steadied off the heels of MOASCAR, which shifted in. B. Stewart, rider of MOASCAR, was cautioned and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.
S. Seamer reported that OCTENNIAL failed to handle the prevailing track conditions. A veterinary examination of OCTENNIAL failed to reveal any abnormality.
Following this race, the track rating was downgraded to slow.
RACE 2: STRYKER MEDICAL QTIS PLATE - 1400M.
Stewards acceded to an application by trainer D. Bougoure to withdraw KOPIAN following the track being downgraded to slow. KOPIAN was declared a late scratching at 12.24 p.m.. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on KOPIAN were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 5 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
Shortly after the start, FINE SILVER was tightened for room between MAZACAR and LEGCAPA, which shifted in.
S. Katsidis reported that JOKINGLY failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.
RACE 3: JOHN HOLARD MILE - 1600M.
As. O. Bosson was to be overweight, S. Seamer was substituted as the rider of WINNING FRIENDS. O. Bosson was fined the sum of $200.
Shortly after the start, MULLIGAN shifted out, taking KING LATARMISS, LISTEN PAL and APPLEBY out on to ARGENTERIE , which made contact with FASHION JEWELS, resulting in both ARGENTERIE and FASHION JEWELS being checked and taken out on to WINNING FRIENDS, JUST BROWSING and DEVASTATING.
Over the concluding stages, FASHION JEWELS shifted in, making contact with KING LATARMISS.
RACE 4: API LEISURE AND LIFESTYLE QTIS STAKES - 1200M.
VICTORY GROVE was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon prior to the start and passed fit to start.
PARMENA jumped awkwardly.
At the 650m., BOWEN STREET hung in, tightening the running of PARMENA and KALINGA METAL.
BOWEN STREET continued to hang in for the remainder of the event.
POWER AND GOLD shifted ground under pressure in the straight.
RACE 5: SMITH AND NEPHEW STAKES - 1800M.
Stewards acceded to applications by trainers J. Hawkes and N. Doyle to withdraw BOREALE and PALIDAMAH following the track being downgraded to heavy. BOREALE and was declared a late scratching at 1.02 p.m. and PALIDAMAH at 1.19 p.m..
Permission was granted for A. Kennedy (DARCY D'OR), K. Pope (EIMEO BAY) and S. Seamer (TELL SOMEONE) to ride their mounts half a kilogram overweight.
TELL SOMEONE, which was fractious in the gates, was slow to begin.
WISHART pulled hard in the early and middle stages.
Near the 1200m., DARCY D'OR, when being restrained off the heels of KENCONCARNE, shifted out slightly, and at the same stage, ULTIMATE COMMAND shifted in, resulting in DARCY D'OR having to be checked and become unbalanced.
When questioned, Y. Yamazaki stated that after racing wide in the early stages, when joined by WISHART passing the 1000m., ALFONSO was unable to accelerate, and when WISHART cleared him approaching the 600m., ALFONSO was immediately under pressure. He added that ALFONSO was not comfortable in the track conditions. A veterinary examination of ALFONSO failed to reveal any abnormality.
DARCY D'OR bled during the event. DARCY D'OR will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.
RACE 6: GREENSLOPES PRIVATE HOSPITAL QUEENSLAND GUINEAS - 1600M.
B. Stewart, rider of SANDY RIVER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that shortly after the start he permitted his mount to shift in, causing CHARMVIEW and LORD RUPERT to be checked, and ROYAL MASK, CHINBOK and TOULOUSE LAUTREC to be tightened for room. B. Stewart was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 10 meetings, to commence at midnight, 12 May, and to expire at midnight, 2 June 2004. B. Stewart was also fined the sum of $1000.
After this incident, WINNING BELLE shifted out, taking STAR CLANG on to TOULOUSE LAUTREC, resulting in TOULOUSE LAUTREC making heavy contact with the hind quarters of CHINBOK, which had to be checked.
R. Quinn, rider of TOULOUSE LAUTREC, reported that after suffering interference shortly after the start, he was placed further back in the field that he anticipated.
Making the home turn, CHINBOK had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SANDY RIVER, which shifted out. B. Stewart, rider of SANDY RIVER, was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.
A short distance later, CHINBOK shifted in, tightening the running of AIM FOR GOLD and SAM SUNG A SONG. A. Best, rider of CHINBOK, was cautioned in relation to this incident.
RACE 7: SIR BYRNE HART STAKES - 1400M.
No incidents.
RACE 8: QRSE GREESLOPES HOSPITAL PHARMACY PLATE - 1200M.
Stewards acceded to an application by trainer R. Maund to withdraw SHA ALMA following the track being downgraded to heavy. SHA ALMA was declared a late scratching at 2.16 p.m..
PATPONG was declared a late scratching at 2.28 p.m. after a veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a swollen off hock.
Permission was granted for A. Kennedy to ride MISS GOLDIE HAWN half a kilogram overweight.
VIVID MISS jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
Approaching the 1000m., MISS GOLDIE HAWN was tightened for room between FAIR EMBRACE, which was taken out slightly by ANCIENT SONG, and GWEN'S RULES, which shifted in. As a result of this tightening, MISS GOLDIE HAWN was inclined to overrace for a short distance when being restrained.
Near the 500m., SACRED HILL shifted out, taking STAR OF FLIGHT out on to MISS GOLDIE HAWN, which became unbalanced when tightened on to the hind quarters of CATACLYSM.
ALL WINNERS AND DARCY D'OR WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
