Between the 1000m and the 600m VICTORY SIREN raced fiercely.

Stewards questioned trainer L. Ross and jockey S. Katsidis over the apparent disappointing performance of ORIGIN HERO. Jockey Katsidis said that the gelding had travelled well until near the 350m where he commenced to struggle. The horse usually finishes down the outside but he was not going well enough to warrant seeking a run on the outside of the field. In his opinion the horse may have been lacking race condition after resuming from a lengthy spell. Mr Ross stated that it was ORIGIN HERO's first start for over a year after tendon problems. He had been in work for 3½ to 4 months and had been working well. He thought that ORIGIN HERO had a strong chance against today's field and produced evidence of large stable support for the horse. The Club's veterinary surgeon could find no abnormalities. Specimens were ordered to be taken from ORIGIN HERO. Their explanations were noted.

Race 4: REGAL ADVICE CLASS 6 H'CAP – 1600M
1st – Wolfman 2nd – Dead Cat Bounce 3rd – Tsingtao 4th – Proud Buck

Near the 600m PARADISE DANCER (S. Galloway) brushed the running rail.

1st – Power Hunt 2nd – Louis The Lip 3rd – Champion Star 4th – Cedar Lodge

On jumping away CEDAR LODGE (S. Seamer) and FASHION THUNDER (P. Hammersley) brushed.

Near the 750m CHAMPION STAR (M. Pelling) shifted out slightly, unbalancing jockey Pelling who adjusted his left stirrup iron. Jockey Pelling was of the opinion that the gelding was not comfortable when travelling on the fence, and raced greenly.

Near the 400m MR. BALLISTIC (J. Taylor) shifted out, bumping TOWN PLAYER (A. Pattillo).

CHAMPION STAR was unable to secure a clear passage in the straight until near the 50m.

At the 200m MR. BALLISTIC steadied from the heels of the tiring FASHION THUNDER.

Jockey L. Morrison and trainer T. Cook were questioned over the performance of INVERSE RATIO. Both agreed that the gelding did not appreciate the slower pace over the 1400m as opposed to its previous starts and pulled fiercely in the early stages of the race, and when taken wider at the top of the straight failed to run on under pressure. The Club's veterinary surgeon could find no abnormalities. Specimens were taken from INVERSE RATIO.
