From QTC meeting, Race 7, 12.6.06
Jockey C. Newitt was found guilty of a charge nder AR137[c], in that he made a celebratory
gesture just prior to the winning post. C. Newitt was fined $500.
Race 1: Club Conrad NMW Last Year H’cap – 1000m
1st – Defecting Playboy 2nd – Legcapa 3rd – She’s All Greek 4th – Noble Gent
DEFECTING PLAYBOY blundered on jumping away.
OCTANEE (D. Beadman) was placed in restricted room from shortly after straightening until near the 250m between SHE’S ALL GREEK (R. Mason) and SAINTS GLORY (A. Pattillo), which was inclined to lay in. A. Pattillo, rider of SAINTS GLORY, was advised to exercise more care.
Following this event, the track rating was upgraded to dead.
Race 2: Café 21 Class 6 H’cap – 1820m
1st – Le Bron 2nd – Con Con 3rd – Hanalei Bay 4th – Wheel The Lead
COME IN SPANNER (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.
Passing the 1600m, COME IN SPANNER commenced to overrace and did so for some distance, and passing the 1000m had to be checked off the heels of BAMBU (B. Shinn).
Approaching the 600m crossing, BAMBU (B. Shinn) was placed in restricted room between CON CON (C. Williams) and RA RA RULENZA (M. Palmer), which shifted out slightly when weakening.
Near the 350m, FIERY SUNSET (S. Katsidis) shifted out to obtain clear running to the outside of RAMPANT LION (Z. Purton) and in so doing made contact with KING LATARMISS (M. Cahill).
Approaching the 300m, SEA DRIVE (J. Holder) was momentarily inconvenienced by BAMBU (B. Shinn), which shifted in.
Nearing the 100m, FIERY SUNSET momentarily impeded between KING LATARMISS (M. Cahill) and RAMPANT LION, which shifted out.
DOWN TO EARTH (S. Seamer) was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
KING LATARMISS (M. Cahill) was forced to race 3 wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of COME IN SPANNER revealed the gelding had sustained lacerations to the inside of the off hind and near hind pastern and to the outside of the off fore canon.
Race 3: Livewire Bar QTIS 2yo C&G H’cap – 1200m
1st – Go Sequalo 2nd – Leondari On Ice 3rd – Brambletye 4th - Sirmione
Following his ride on RAMPANT LION in race 2, Z. Purton was examined by the club’s doctor and stood down from his engagement on HOODLUM and was replaced by P. Mertens. Following this race, Z. Purton was again examined by the club’s doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
HOODLUM (P. Mertens) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with SIMPLEX (A. Pattillo).
Shortly after the start, GRAND REVE (S. Seamer) and REBOUNDED (K. Forrester) were placed in restricted room between JAKELLI (J. Warrington) and BRAMBLETYE (D. Beadman), which shifted out.
Approaching the 800m, SIRMIONE (D. Nikolic) commenced to race ungenerously.
Near the 800m, SEBASTIEN (M. Rodd) was momentarily inconvenienced by ZIPPER CLUB (K. Pope), which shifted in slightly.
TOMKINS (M. Cahill) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 4: Marco Polo H’cap – 1600m
1st – Smart And Mighty 2nd – Spuruson 3rd – Mitanni 4th – Mr Hornblower
BEAT THAT (L. Cassidy) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with SAXON (S. Seamer).
SPIRIT OF TARA (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.
Passing the 1300m, SAXON (S. Seamer) commenced to overrace.
Near the 1000m, SPIRIT OF TARA (M. Cahill), which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of MR HORNBLOWER (B. Shinn).
COOL FRONT (D. Nikolic) raced ungenerously in the straight.
Passing the 400m, SPIRIT OF TARA (M. Cahill) and SILKY RED BOXER (D. Beadman) came together.
SPURUSON bled from both nostrils following the event. Trainer R. Ollerton will be advised that SPURUSON will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months. AR53A.
Race 5: Mitty’s Queensland 3yo Group 2 Guineas – 1600m
1st – Nova Star 2nd – Fashions Afield 3rd – Funlove 4th – Road Worker
MASAI PRIDE (J. Byrne) and LANGLAW (K. Pope) were tightened for room on jumping away between ABSOLOM (K. Forrester) and LETTER OF INTENT (D. Beadman), which shifted out.
Shortly after the start, DENMARKET (B. Shinn) shifted in, taking RUMBIRD (P. Hammersley) in on to the hind quarters of ROAD WORKER (C. Newitt).
Approaching the 1200m, DENMARKET (B. Shinn) had to be steadied off the heels of RUMBIRD (P. Hammersley). LANGLAW (K. Pope), which was overracing, had to be steadied as a consequence. LANGLAW then continued to overrace for some distance, and near the 700m had to be steadied off the heels of MASAI PRIDE (J. Byrne).
MANILLLA BOY (B. Pengelly) overraced in the early stages.
K. Forrester, rider of ABSOLOM, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 1000m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LETTER OF INTENT (D. Beadman), causing a crowding to that horse, resulting in D. Beadman having to check LETTER OF INTENT, which then blundered. K. Forrester was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings, to commence at midnight, 17 June, and to expire at midnight, 2 July 2006. K. Forrester was also fined the sum of $1000.
Approaching the 1000m, CENTURY SERB (J. Taylor) had to be steadied off the heels of GRECOLO (S. Seamer).
Right on the finish line, DIAMONDSONDINSIDE (Z. Purton) had to be steadied off the heels of PRINCE ARTHUR (D. Nikolic).
DAVION (J. Hoopert) was forced to race wide throughout.
Race 6: Racetree T.J. Smith 2yo Group 1 Quality – 1600m
1st – Reigning to win 2nd – Danleigh 3rd – Carry To Glory 4th - Furio
Stewards considered an application from jockey M. Rice for a riding percentage of THUNDERING GIRL as he was of the belief he had been engaged by the connections to ride the filly in today’s event. After taking evidence from M. Rice, trainer N. Somerset and managing part-owner Mr A. Whitney stewards ordered that M. Rice be entitled to a riding percentage.
THUNDERING GIRL, which reared over in the barriers, was declared a late scratching at 3.20 p.m. by order of the stewards on veterinary advice. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on THNUDERING GIRL were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 6 cents on the dollar on the face value on win bets, 7 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer N. Somerset will be advised that she would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for THUNDERING GIRL prior to its next start.
LASORON (J. Byrne) jumped inwards at the start, making contact with POST ON TYNE (D. Walsh).
FURIO (D. Beadman) jumped inwards at the start, making contact with BLOOD PILL (K. Forrester).
IN YOUR HONOUR (M. Bell) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 800m, REIGNING TO WIN (C. Munce) shifted in, taking ANCIENT TITLES (J. Holder) in on to EYE EYE SILVER (K. Pope).
Shortly after the straightening, EYE EYE SILVER (K. Pope) had to be steadied off the heels of BLOOD PILL.
Race 7: Conrad Treasury Group 1 Brisbane Cup – 3200m
1st – Art Success 2nd – Gorgeous George 3rd – Sculptor 4th - Pentathon
GAME ON was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon prior to this event and cleared to race.
Approaching the 2800m, DESERT MASTER (C. Williams) had to be steadied when tightened for room by BAZELLE (G. Cooksley).
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, ART SUCCESS (A. Pattillo) and PENTATHON (J. Taylor) were placed in restricted room to the inside of mahtoum (S. King).
Jockey C. Williams reported that DESERT MASTER hung out from after passing the 700m.
J. Taylor, rider of PENTATHON, was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogrom overweight.
A post race veterinary examination of COALESCE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The club’s veterinary surgeon reported that CLASSIC KARLA was suffering from thumps following the event.
Race 8: Casino Rewards NMW Last Year H’cap – 1300m
1st – Omnitrader 2nd – Hamah 3rd – Monte Cavallo 4th - Romare
Following his ride on BAZELLE in race 7, G. Cooksley was examined by the club’s doctor and stood down from his engagment on HAMAH and was replaced by L. Kropp.
After S. Seamer (MONTE CAVALLO) was issued with a charge of careless riding, in that he failed to make sufficient effort near the 1250m to prevent his mount shifting out, causing severe crowding to ROMARE (D. Beadman), SCHAHRIAR (K. Forrester) and RIVER HUNTER (M. Rodd), he was given the benefit of the doubt as to whether he was fully responsible for the interference suffered and therefore the charge was not sustained.
Passing the 1000m, ROMARE (D. Beadman) blundered.
Near the 550m, HAMAH (L. Kropp) had to be steadied when tightened for room by DANEWIN BEAUTY (J. Holder), which shifted out. J. Holder, rider of DANEWIN BEAUTY, was reprimanded.
Approaching the 200m, CIANARA (M. Rice) had to be steadied when tightened for room between REGIMENTAL (K. Pope) and KARA GEORGE (J. Taylor), which shifted out under pressure. J. Taylor, rider of KARA GEORGE, was reprimanded.
At the same stage, RIVER HUNTER (M. Rodd) shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of REGIMENTAL (K. Pope). A short distance later, RIVER HUNTER had to be eased to avoid the heels of DUKE SAM (M. Palmer), which shifted in.
NATALE, which finished a distant last, was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon with no abnormalities reported. Trainer L. Ross was advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for NATALE prior to its next race start.
A post race veterinary examination of ROMARE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
