TAKE OFF was a late scratching at 8.10 a.m. by order of the stewards on veterinary advice.

Approaching the 1000m, MR SIMPLICITY, which was overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of SHINKO GEM (J. Byrne).

Nearing the 900m, RAZYDANCER (S. Seamer), which was overracing, shifted out off the heels of SHOVENT (D. Craven) and forced TEMPLETY (M. Cahill) wider on the track. TEMPLETY was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.

Passing the 300m, THAUMAS (R. McMahon), RAMCO (K. Pope) and SHINKO GEM were placed in restricted room between JUST JEDDAH (J. Taylor) and PROSPERING, which shifted out. T. Pannell, rider of PROSPERING, was advised to exercise more care.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of RAZYDANCER, S. Forster was unable to provide an explaination for the poor performance, and undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality that may come to light which may have had a bearing on the performance. A post race veterinary examination of RAZYDANCER failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Passing the 1000m, THE REAL ROKOCOKO (D. Craven) overraced for a short distance.

1st – Stepping 2nd – Giacometti 3rd - Fair Game/Picabelle

DIAMOND BULLET (A. Spinks) was slow to begin.

N. Tomizawa, rider of SHE’S ROCKING, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 1000m he allowed his mount to shift in, tightening the running of FAIR GAME (J. Byrne), resulting in FAIR GAME losing its position. N. Tomizawa was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 19 August and to expire at midnight, 1 September 2006.

Near the 1100m, RASH’N AEL (J. Taylor)had to be steadied off the heels of PARADISE DANCER (S. Drake).

HOW BRAVE (B. Pengelly) overraced in the early stages.
Passing the 1100m, TAKE THE PLEA (M. Radecker) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HOW BRAVE, which was taken in slightly by MY CENTURION (J. Bowditch).

COFFEE TIME (S. Drake) laid out rounding the home turn.

Passing the 300m, MY CENTURION (J. Bowditch) was placed in restricted room between MELLIFLUOUS (N. Tomizawa) and WAY OF THE WORLD (J. Byrne), which was taken in slightly by HOW BRAVE, which was inclined to lay in. HOW BRAVE was inclined to lay in for the remainder of the event.

WAY OF THE WORLD (J. Byrne) and TACT (K. Forrester) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MY CENTURION, J. Bowditch stated that the horse jumped only fairly and trevelled well, however was under pressure prior to the home turn. He further added that, in his opinion, the gelding had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer K. Doughty could offer no explanation other than the horse may be in need of a break from racing and advised that MY CENTURION would be sent for an immediate spell.

A post race veterinary examination of WAY OF THE WORLD failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 6: City News H’cap – 1500m
1st – Harbour Magic 2nd – Picablu 3rd – Omnitrader 4th – Top Marc

Near the 100m, PICABLU (B. Pengelly) shifted out and brushed HARBOUR MAGIC.

When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of HARBOUR MAGIC today as opposed to its previous start at Eagle Farm on 12 August when 5th of 6th, trainer N. Cowell stated that the gelding was obliged to race 3 wide on that occasion due to the tempo of the race and was inclined to overrace. Trainer Cowell further added that, in her opinion, the gelding is better suited to the distance to today’s event as the horse had a tendency to overrace when there was a lack of speed. The explanation was noted.

COPPER PENNY (A. Spinks), EMPIRE RISING (M. Morris) and THE GREAT I AM (R. McMahon) were all forced to race wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of HARLEY GEORGE, J. Byrne stated that approaching the 1500m the gelding commenced to race fiercely and lay out and did so for the remainder of the event, and, in his opinion, this resulted in the horse being unable to finish the race off. Trainer L. Manzelmann stated that the horse normally racd midfield, however today was obliged to race more forward as the gelding overraced. Following the race it came to the notice of the stewards that HARLEY GEORGE slipped in the tie-up stalls prior to the race. L. Manzelman was reminded of her obligations under AR140(a) to report to stewards any occurrences which may have an effect on a horse’s performance. A post race veterinary examination of HARLEY GEORGE revealed the gelding to have sustained minor abrasions to the front both hind fetlocks.

A short distance later, MILADY CLANG was taken in by STEP RIGHT IN (J. Byrne), which shifted in. S. Scriven, rider of MILADY CLANG, was reprimanded and advised that he should have stopped riding and straightened his mount sooner than he did. J. Byrne, rider of STEP RIGHT IN, was reminded of his obligations to stop riding and straighten his mounts when they shift ground.

VIETNAM made the crossing at the 600m awkwardly.

When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted today on BRAEBROOK as opposed to its previous starts, jockey J. Taylor stated his instructions were to have the horse back as the horse was stepping up in distance to 1400m today for the first time. J. Taylor further added that shortly after jumping he attempted to restrain BRAEBROOK in an endeavour to take up a rearward position, however the horse commenced to overrace with him and did so for some distance, thus placing him in a more forward position. Trainer T. Sears confirmed the instructions, adding that, in his opinion, the horse overraced in the early stages despite the efforts of jockey J. Taylor. Their explanations were noted.
