Race 1: Roadstar Magnifique 1MW H’cap – 1400m.
1st – Elegant Roi 2nd – Phoenix Express 3rd – Mr Hornblower 4th – Charvicky
FADE (K. Forrester) jumped away awkwardly.
FULMONTI (J. Bowditch) overraced in the early stages.
LINDHOLME (S. Drake) was forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
FADE shifted wider on the track passing the 1000m, forcing MIKAN (S. Scriven) wider for a short distance.
MR HORNBLOWER (R. Plumb) laid in for the majority of the straight.
Race 2: Hanrick Curran Class 6 H’cap – 2100m
1st – Shingle Peak 2nd – Big Mick 3rd – King Latarmiss 4th – Emgee Rex
ESKIMO DAN was a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1.12 p.m. after the gelding was found to be showing signs of tendenitis in the off fore leg. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on ESKIMO were ordered to be refunded, with deduction of 42 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 24 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets. Trainer B. Laming was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for ESKIMO DAN prior to its next race start.
On jumping away, PERETTE (C. Spry) was momentarily tightened for room between SHINGLE PEAK (B. Pengelly), which after making contact with THE GREAT I AM (K. Forrester) shifted out, and MISS INDIANA (M. Dorrington).
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of RADAR O’REILLY, J. Bowditch stated that the horse, which was racing with the addition of blinkers today, was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages and was under pressure shortly after straightening. A post race veterinary examination of RADAR O’REILLY failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The club’s veterinary surgeon also reported that BERNY TO was sore in the off hind leg, had abrasions and soreness to the inside of the near fore canon, and abrasions on the off hind pastern. Trainer L. Ross was advised that BERNY TO must trial satisfactorily and that must provide a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.
Race 3: Manor Group 2006 Apprentices’ Cup NMW – 1200m
1st – Centenn 2nd – Sea Zulu 3rd – Mersey Beat 4th – Jebsen Champion
PRINCE OF STEEL (R. Plumb) was tightened for room on jumping away between HAMAH (M. Radecker) and MINOA (L. Fyfe), which jumped inwards at the start.
MERSEY BEAT (L. Dillon) was slow to begin.
Approaching the 800m, KID TREASURE (R. Mason) commenced to overrace and did so for some distance.
SEA ZULU (C. Pay) was disappointed for a run near the 250m and was then held up for a short distance.
HAMAH had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
MY SONG (S. Drake) was forced to race wide throughout.
CHESTERMAN bled during the event. Trainer S. Tregea was advised that CHESTERMAN would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months. AR53A.
Race 4: Coca-Cola QTIS 3yo Class 6 H’cap – 1400m
1st – Takeitall 2nd – Mellifluous 3rd – How Brave 4th – Vargas Girl
WHERE’SMINE (K. Pope) blundered on jumping away.
SHOBELLE (K. Forrester)was slow to begin.
MELLIFLUOUS (N. Tomizawa) jumped away awkwardly.
PRANCY NANCY (E. Dredge) raced ungenerously approaching the first turn.
Near the 200m, VARGAS GIRL (M. Morris) shifted out and bumped TAKEITALL (S. Scriven).
HOW BRAVE (B. Pengelly) was forced to race wide throughout.
Race 5: Redlands Sporting Group NMW H’cap – 1600m
1st – King Of Trumps 2nd – Fort Custom 3rd – Nediym’s Image 4th – Kaoru Square
As B. Stewart was to be overweight, M. Rice was substituted as the rider of KAORU SQUARE. B. Stewart was fined $300.
KING OF TRUMPS (K. Forrester) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with CHICKCHAT (M. Morris).
REACH (B. Pengelly) and STIPEND (M. Palmer) were tightened on jumping away between FOREIGN TITLE (J. Bowditch) and MAKE MUSIC (N. Day).
FORT CUSTOM (R. Mason) jumped away awkwardly.
SWEPTRONIC (A. Merritt) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Approaching the 350m, FOREIGN TITLE (J. Bowditch) shifted out and bumped MAKE MUSIC (N. Day).
Approaching the 300m until near the 200m CHICKCHAT was held up for clear running.
TOP RANGE (K. Pope) had difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the straight.
SAGAMORE (S. Drake), KAORU SQUARE (M. Rice) and KING OF TRUMPS (K. Forrester) all raced wide throughout.
Race 6: Ormiston College H’cap 1400m
1st - Picablu 2nd – Video Hits 3rd – Cajun Steel 4th – Classic Karla
CHASIN’ TAIL was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon prior to the race and was cleared to race.
CLASSIC KARLA (L. Fyfe) was a little slow to begin.
CHASIN’ TAIL was forced to race wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ENTHUSIAST, K. Forrester was at a loss to explain the gelding’s performance other than the horse travelled well throughout the event, however when placed under pressure near the 250m, ENTHUSIAST failed to respond to his riding. A post race veterinary examination of ENTHUSIAST revealed the gelding to be suffering from thumps. Trainer J. Wallace was advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to its next race start.
CAJUN STEEL (J. Bowditch) lost its off hind plate in running.
Race 7: Morton Steel F&M H’cap – 1200m
1st – Shepishir 2nd – Rock On Bye 3rd - Devil Inside 4th - Anca
ROCK ON BYE (K. Pope) jumped awkwardly.
NO MISTAKE (R. McMahon) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with STREET SMART.
PERSUADES (M. Palmer), ANCA (M. Cahill), PARTRIDGE (B. Payne) and FREEROLLER (K. Forrester) were all forced to race wide for the majority of the race.
A post race veterinary examination of SHEPISHIR revealed the mare to be suffering from a minor case of the thumps.
Race 8: Swagman Motorhome Class 6 H’cap – 1000m
1st – Mi Cielo 2nd – Fun Love 3rd – Aladdins Lion 4th - Rashini
Trainer N. Cowell was fined $200 for failing to notify a gear change for FUNLOVE by the prescribed time. AR120B(2).
PARADISE DANCER (B. Payne) and ALADDINS LION (M. Palmer) came together on jumping away.
PARADISE DANCER (B. Payne) made the 600m crossing awkwardly.
Rounding the home turn, RASHINI (M. Radecker) ran up on to the heels of BROADWAY VENTURE (R. Plumb) and had to be steadied.
Shortly after straightening, FUNLOVE (N. Jolly) was inclined to lay in and had to be steadied off the heels of MI CIELO (S. Drake).
RASHINI (M. Radecker) and BROADWAY VENTURE (R. Plumb) raced wide throughout.
