1st – Take The Plea 2nd – Hanalei Bay 3rd – Pappapo 4th – Time And Dandy
NATURAL GLAMOUR (J. Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly.
PAPPAPO (M. Radecker) was tightened for room at the start between TAKE THE PLEA (K. Wharton) and COTTON FINGERS (S. Drake), which shifted out.
GREENFINDER (S. Scriven) shied at the winning post on the first occasion and shifted out abruptly, taking COTTON FINGERS out on to PAPPAPO.
When the pace slowed leaving the 1800m, GREENFINDER was inclined to pull hard. As a result of the slow pace, COTTON FINGERS had to be checked off the heels of GREENFINDER and shifted out, inconveniencing TAKE THE PLEA. TIME AND DANDY, PERSONAL ALIBI (H. Hamada) and JEDAPHRAE (J. Holder), which were following, were also inconvenienced as a result of the slow pace.
At the 1000m, COTTON FINGERS (S. Drake), when pulling hard, shifted out off the rails and made contact with JEDAPHRAE.
Near the 800m, TIME AND DANDY shifted out away from the rail and brushed the hind quarters of PERSONAL ALIBI.
Shortly after straightening, MATARANKA (R. Goltz) had to be steadied when attempting a tight run between HANALEI BAY and MINOA (G. Colless).
Approaching the 200m, MATARANKA was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of MINOA (G. Colless).
Near the 100m, the tiring MINOA (G. Colless) and MATARANKA (R. Goltz) both had to be steadied when tightened for room between HANALEI BAY (K. Forrester), which was taken in by TAKE THE PLEA (K. Wharton), and NATURAL GLAMOUR (J. Bowditch), which was taken out slightly by PAPPAPO (M. Radecker). K. Wharton, rider of TAKE THE PLEA, was severely reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten TAKE THE PLEA, when it was inclined to shift in under pressure.
H. Hamada was severely reprimanded for using his whip on PERSONAL ALIBI when the gelding was out of contention.
Race 2: Hamilton Hotel QTIS 2yo H’cap – 1000m
1st – Mfuwe 2nd – Feline Hunter 3rd – Falvalea 4th – Raffael Nediym
INDIANA STORM (K. Wharton) jumped outwards at the start, taking TRIBAL CHOICE (C. Spry) out on to RAFFAEL NEDIYM (G. Colless).
FELINE HUNTER (S. Drake) and SNAGAPOT (R. Plumb) made contact on jumping away. Shortly after, both horses were then tightened between LEGAL PERFUME (M. Price) and BURN ME UP (K. Banks), which was taken in by FALVALEA (R. Goltz).
Near the 800m, PRIVATE KISS (M. Cahill), which was inclined to race ungenerously, shifted out, taking INDIANA STORM wider. PRIVATE KISS raced ungenerously for some distance after this incident.
PRIVATE KISS made the crossing awkwardly inside the 600m, again taking INDIANA STORM wider.
Near the 200m, LEGAL PERFUME was inclined to lay in, which resulted in SNAGAPOT (R. Plumb) being tightened and taken in on to MOONLIGHT ZEPHYR (J. Bowditch).
Approaching the finish line, RAFFAEL NEDIYM (G. Colless) was inclined to lay in under pressure, which resulted in LEGAL PERFUME being taken in on to SNAGAPOT, which had to be steadied to avoid the heels of FALVALEA (R. Goltz).
FEELINE HUNTER (S. Drake) was also inclined to lay in over the concluding stages of the race.
Race 3: Carlton Draught QTIS Class 6 3yo H’cap – 1200m
1st – Rosco’s Circus 2nd – Unswerving 3rd – Falconten 4th - Pamalashar
COXLESS (J. Bowditch) commenced to overrace approaching the first turn and the horse continued to overrace for some distance.
COXLESS, which was racing ungenerously, shifted out near the 450m, forcing MOODEE (G. Colless) out on to UNSWERVING (M. Cahill), which had been obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.
G. Colless reported that after being bumped near the 450m, MOODEE, under its big weight, did not accelerate and respond to his riding as expected.
Race 4: Hardy Brothers Jewellers Class 6 F&M H’cap – 1400m
1st – Poiym 2nd – No Mistake 3rd – Welcome Site 4th - Cashkitty
SHEWHOMUSTBEOBEYED was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon prior to the race and cleared to start.
WELCOME SITE (S. Drake) was caught 3 wide in the early stages before assuming the lead near the 700m.
POIYM (R. Plumb) was also obliged to raced wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards questioned trainer K. Hickmott as to the variation in riding tactics adopted on TAABINGA LASS today by leading. Mr Hickmott stated he instructed apprentice Morris to take advantage of the good barrier draw and have the horse positioned in the leading division. He added that TAABINGA LASS when previously up in distance had been able to occupy a forward positions if favoured with its barrier draw. Trainer Hickmott agreed that the horse was disappointing today and indicated he would give the horse a short spell.
A post race veterinary examination of MESMERISING revealed the mare to have been galloped on on the outside of the near hind canon.
Race 5: Tattersall’s Arcade Class 6 CGE H’cap – 1400m
1st – Upilio 2nd – No Doubt At All 3rd – Ready When You Are 4th -Duomo
M. Morris was dislodged from DUOMO when proceeding to the barriers. DUOMO was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon at the start and cleared to race.
Leaving the 400m, BITABIFF (H. Hamada) was disappointed for a run between TRICK ON TRACK (M. Price) and POWER CITY (J. Byrne).
When taking a tight run between TRICK ON TRACK (M. Price) and POWER CITY (J. Byrne) near the 300m, READY WHEN YOU ARE (K. Wharton) shifted in and brushed the tiring POWER CITY.
MR DOYLE (R. Plumb) raced 3 wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of POWER CITY, J. Byrne stated that he obtained the lead rather easily, however TRICK ON TRACK, which was racing to his outside, refused to settle and as a result both horses overraced, which resulted in POWER CITY failing to finish the race off as expected due to the early tempo. A post race veterinary examination of POWER CITY failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
Stewards questioned M. Price as to her riding tactics adopted on TRICK ON TRACK. M. Price stated that she had come across with POWER CITY and near the first turn attempted to restrain TRICK ON TRACK, however the horse refused to settle and pulled hard, resulting in TRICK ON TRACK compounding over latter stages. Trainer Mr G. Nielsen indicated to stewards that he may make application to remove the blinkers from TRICK ON TRACK in an effort to have the horse settle in its races in future.
Stewards questioned the connections of BITABIFF as to the apparent disappointing performance of the horse, which failed to finish the race off over the final 200m. Apprentice Hamada stated that, in his opinion, the horse was not entirely comfortable on the dead surface. Trainer T. Hamade also expressed her disappointment with the run and undertook to notify stewards of any abnormality which may come to light in the days following the event which may have had a bearing on the performance. A post race veterinary examination of BITABIFF failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
A post race veterinary examination of MR DOYLE revealed the colt to be suffering from metabolic heat syndrome.
Race 6: IGA Print Open H’cap – 1000m
1st – Foxmore 2nd – Sectagonal 3rd – Black Ink/Black Suit
FOXMORE and STRAWBERRY MALT were both examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and cleared to race.
Near the 150m, SAN FRANFRISCO (M. Morris) was tightened for room between BLACK SUIT (J. Taylor), which shifted in, and QUALO (C. Spry), which shifted out off the rails under pressure. Both J. Taylor (BLACK SUIT) and C. Spry (QUALO) were advised to exercise more care.
Race 7: Tattersall’s Members’ Cup – 1600m
1st – Special Song 2nd – Nexgen 3rd – Hissy Fit 4th – Sunday Adieu
CHASIN’ TAIL was a late scratching at 11.12 a.m. on veterinary advice.
MONSOON SUNRISE (J. Bowditch) shifted its near fore plate and was attended to by the farrier behind the barriers.
On return to scale a protest was lodged by, R. McMahon, rider of the 3rd placegetter, HISSY FIT, against NEXGEN being declared 2nd, alleging interference over the concluding stages. In dismissing the objection, stewards found that HISSY FIT, when racing in restricted room after being taken out by SPECIAL SONG, bumped the hind quarters of NEXGEN (G. Colless), which resulted in NEXGEN being turned inwards and making contact with HISSY FIT. Stewards found that as there were contributing factors involved in the incident, and that it was not entirely caused by NEXGEN, the protest was dismissed and the Judge’s placings confirmed. M. Rice, rider of SPECIAL SON, was subsequently cautioned for permitting his mount to shift in under pressure over the final 100m.
Near the 250m, TAISHO (J. Byrne) had to be checked when racing between NEXGEN (G. Colless) and HISSY FIT, which was inclined to shift out under pressure from SPECIAL SONG. R. McMahon was severely reprimanded.
SUNDAY ADIEU (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.
HISSY FIT (R. McMahon), which was caught 4 wide in the early stages, was sent forward by apprentice McMahon to assume the lead passing the 1000m.
WHAT A GUY (J. Taylor) was inclined to overrace in the middle stages.
Race 8: Sir James Killen Memorial NMW H’cap – 1200m
1st – Chevron Island 2nd – Cooonac 3rd – Bannock Bay 4th – Romand Squire
GAZZAM (M. Morris) jumped outwards at the start and brushed DIGGING DEEP (M. Radecker).
A short distance later, DIGGING DEEP (M. Radecker) and CHARLIE CHEESE (C. Spry) were tightened between HARLEY GEORGE (J. Byrne) and GAZZAM.
Near the 800m, MELLING (A. Spinks), which was inclined to lay out, had to be steadied off the heels of KENDRICK LAD (J. Taylor), which shifted in. MELLING (A. Spinks) then became unbalanced and shifted out and bumped PARADISE DANCER (K. Cunningham), forcing that horse out on to CHARLIE CHEESE, which had been racing 4 wide. Whilst it was acknowledged that MELLING overreacted, J. Taylor, rider of KENDRICK LAD, was advised to provide more clearance when crossing.
DIGGING DEEP (M. Radecker), PARADISE DANCER and CHARLIE CHEESE all raced wide throughout.
ROMAN SQUIRE was held up for clear running until near the 100m.
G. Colless reported that STASHED AWAY, which was racing in blinkers which were added today, did not settle when racing outside the leader and this may have had some effect on the gelding over the latter stages.
