Race 1: Gallipoli Research Foundation QTIS H’cap – 1200m
1st – Prince Vilhelm 2nd – Pepperwood 3rd – Feline Hunter 4th - Mosstang
CRAFTY SOCKS (S. Seamer) and PENTHOUSE (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.
Approaching the 900m, LITTLE SPARROW (S. Katsidis), which was inclined to overrace, had to be steadied when tightened for room by LASSIE MACTAVISH (B. El-Issa).
Passing the 600m, LITTLE SPARROW attempted to take a run to the inside of FELINE HUNTER (B. Stewart) where there was doubtful room and as a result had to be steadied.
Near the 400m, FELINE HUNTER shifted out to improve and in doing so made contact with STATURE (L. Morrison).
Passing the 200m, LASSIE MACTAVISH (B. El-Issa) was tightened for room between PENTHOUSE, which shifted out slightly, and MORE ON THE TOE (J. Taylor), which shifted in. J. Taylor, rider of MORE ON THE TOE, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
MORE ON THE TOE, STATURE (L. Morrison) and MOSSTANG (A. Coome) were all forced to raced wide for the majority of the event.
Race 2: Greenslopes Private Emergency Centre Class 6 H’cap – 1200m
1st –Testimonial 2nd – Demolir 3rd – Primal Impulse 4th - Pravana
Apprentice D. Carrigg was fined $500 for failing to claim her full allowance on STIRLING. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account D. Carrigg’s record regarding weight issues, and was advised that should she be found in breach of this rule in the near future, stewards would consider a suspension of her apprentice jockey’s licence.
THE PIANIST (B. El-Issa), which was a little slow to begin, was hampered on jumping away by GOLD RIMU (N. Thomas), which shifted out after jumping away awkwardly.
EASY PLAN (L. Morrison) was tightened for room on jumping away between MOONLIGHT SHADOW (C. Whiteley) and WINGS OF SERAPH (S. Seamer), both of which shifted ground.
DECEPTION BAY (J. Powell) was slow to begin.
STIRLING (D. Carrigg) overraced in the early stages.
Passing the 1000m, EASY PLAN, which was endeavouring to obtain a position closer to the fence, had to be steadied off the heels of GOLD RIMU (N. Thomas).
DAWN’S PRIDE (J. Taylor) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight behind the heels of EASY PLAN (L. Morrison).
Near the 200m, PRAVANA (B. Pengelly) was impeded by PRIMAL IMPULSE (A. Taylor), which shifted out slightly.
STIRLING and DECEPTION BAY raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Qld X-Ray NMW H’cap – 1000m
1st – Craiglea Emma 2nd – Aladdins Lion 3rd – Qualo Star 4th - Fasnatic
At the request of jockey G. Boss, THIS TOO SHALL PASS was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon and was subsequently cleared to start.
FASNATIC (D. Tanti) jumped away awkwardly.
QUALO STAR (S. Katsidis) was slow to begin.
On jumping away ALADDINS LION (B. El-Issa) shifted out and made contact with REGAL MEGAN (B. Pengelly).
Between the 400m and 250m, and from passing the 100m to the winning post, THIS TOO SHALL PASS (G. Boss) had difficulty obtaining clear running.
SUNTANNED (J. Taylor) and CUDDLES A DOLLAR (D. Edmonds) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of ONEDIN LINE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The club’s veterinary surgeon reported that REGAL MEGAN was suffering from a mild case of thumps following the event. Trainer M. Lehmann was advised that he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness for the mare prior to its next race start.
Trainer L. Birchley was advised that CAN’T GET ON, which bled during the event, would incur a life-time bar from racing.
Race 4: John Holland Mile Class 6 H’cap – 1600m
1st – Upilio 2nd – No Doubt At All 3rd – Poiym 4th - Departure
UPILIO (S. Scriven) jumped away awkwardly.
VIETNAM (J. Byrne) overraced in the early and middle stages.
Near the 800m, ANNIGONI (S. Seamer) shifted out and was then obliged to race 3 wide for the remainder of the race.
Rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight, VIETNAM was held up and had to be checked off the heels of BIT OF MAGIC (J. Powell). VIETNAM was then held up for clear running until after passing the 200m.
Near the 350m, LEICA LAUNCH (S. Katsidis) shifted in and made contact with BIT OF MAGIC.
Passing the 200m, PEACEFUL HONOUR (B. El-Issa) had to be momentarily eased to avoid the heels of KUTUZOV (L. Morrison), which was taken out by DEPARTURE (J. Cassidy), which shifted out to obtain clear running.
Race 5: Ramsay Health Care Peter Gallagher Stakes – 2100m
1st – Point Made 2nd – Palace Lover 3rd – Ready When You Are 4th – Cold Start
READY WHEN YOU ARE (J. Cassidy) was slow to begin.
WHEEL THE LEAD (J. Taylor) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making contact with HOPESON (S. Drake).
Approaching the 1900m, SCATTERGUN (B. Pengelly) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of DELICATA (K. Wharton), which shifted in.
Apprentice A. Coome, rider of FASTNESS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift out near the 500m when insufficiently clear of CONCITARE (G. Boss), resulting in CONCITARE being checked. A. Coome was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 3 May, and to expire at midnight, 13 May 2007. A. Coome was also fined the sum of $500.
Passing the 400m, SCATTERGUN (B. Pengelly) was momentarily impeded for clear running between DELICATA (K. Wharton) and CONCITARE (G. Boss), which was inclined to shift out and away from GREENFINDER (J. Powell).
DELICATA (K. Wharton) and HOPESON (S. Drake) raced wide for the majority of the event.
A. Coome, rider of FASTNESS, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR135(b), in that he failed to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race. A. Coome was fined the sum of $700.
When questioned regarding the performance of SCATTERGUN, B. Pengelly stated that it was the intention to have the horse race handy today, however SCATTERGUN unable to take up a forward position. He further added that SCATTERGUN only ran on fairly in the early stages of the straight, however he was not disappointed with the horse’s effort over the last 200 metres of the event. Trainer B. Smith could offer no explanation other than as stated at its previous start that SCATTERGUN may be better suited to tracks of a softer nature. A post race veterinary examination of SCATTERGUN failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. Trainer B. Smith undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which may come to his attention which may have had an effect on the horse’s performance today.
Race 6: Greenslopes Private Hospital Pharmacy Queensland Day 3yo Plate – 1400m
1st – Reigning To Win 2nd – Raheeb 3rd – Snort 4th - Stellamac
TAKE THE PLEA (S. Scriven) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with LASORON (J. Byrne).
SATSANG (M. Cahill) shifted out at the start and made contact with REIGNING TO WIN (G. Boss).
SIRMIONE (B. Pengelly) was tightened for room on jumping away between EYE EYE SILVER (K. Cunningham) and CRAIGLEA CHARM (J. Powell), which shifted out.
Near the 1200m, SIRMIONE (B. Pengelly) improved up on to the heels of TAKE THE PLEA (S. Scriven) and shifted in where there was doubtful room. A short distance later SIRMIONE had to be checked to avoid the heels of TAKE THE PLEA, which shifted in slightly. In the circumstances, stewards were unable to attribute blame to any one particular rider and therefore took no action.
Near the 1100m, GO SEQUALO (C. Spry), which was overracing, had to be momentarily steadied when tightened for room by FORT ‘N’ WON (B. Stewart), which was taken in by STELLAMAC (J. Taylor). A short distance later, SNORT (B. El-Issa) and GO SEQUALO (C. Spry) were then obliged to race in restricted room for a short distance inside CRAIGLEA CHARM (J. Powell).
LASORON (J. Byrne) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and shortly after entering the straight had to be steadied off the heels of CRAIGLEA CHARM. LASORON was then held up for clear running until passing the 200m.
Near the 350m, CURRIGEE (S. Katsidis) shifted in and made contact with LASORON.
SIRMIONE (B. Pengelly) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
SATSANG (M. Cahill) and RAHEEB (J. Cassidy) raced wide for the majority of the event.
REIGNING TO WIN lost its near hind plate in running.
Race 7: Greenslopes Private Hospital Sir Byrne Hart Group 2 Stakes – 1200m
1st – Mitanni 2nd – Anwaar 3rd – Tellem 4th - Enthusiast
THE JACKAL (J. Bowditch) was hampered on jumping away between TELLEM (S. Katsidis) and HARD TO CATCH (B. Stewart), which shifted in.
Jockey M. Cahill, rider of SPARK OF LIFE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1000m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DANCE HERO (J. Byrne), resulting in DANCE HERO losing its rightful position and J. Byrne (DANCE HERO) having to take hold of his mount to avoid the heels of SPARK OF LIFE. M. Cahill was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight 29 April, and to expire at midnight, 12 May 2007. M. Cahill was also fined the sum of $1000.
Near the 800m, PRIMUS (G. Boss) had to be steadied when Approaching the 400m, THE JACKAL (J. Bowditch) and HARD TO CATCH came together.
Over the concluding stages, PRIMUS (G. Boss) was placed in restricted room momentarily cramped for room to the inside of THE JACKAL (J. Bowditch), which was taken in slightly by HARD TO CATCH.
between SPARK OF LIFE (M. Cahill) and TELLEM (S. Katsidis), which shifted in.
HARD TO CATCH raced 3 wide throughout the race.
S. Scriven, rider of the winner, MITANNI, was severely admonished in that he failed to ride his mount right out to the end of the race.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DANCE HERO, J. Byrne stated that after being a little slow to begin the gelding travelled comfortably until near the 400m where the horse was under pressure and failed to respond to his riding thereafter. J. Byrne also added that DANCE HERO had a tendency to lay in for the majority of the straight. A post race veterinary examination of DANCE HERO failed to reveal any abnormalities. The explanation was noted.
Race 8: Baxter Healthcare 2mw Last Year H’cap – 1400m
1st – Noble Gaze 2nd – Telegrand 3rd – Omnitrader 4th – King Of Soul
SURE BET (S. Scriven) jumped away awkwardly.
PICABLU (B. Pengelly) was tightened for room at the start by SIR WINALOT (B. El-Issa), which shifted out.
DARKSIDE LASS (R. McMahon), PROSECUTION (A. Taylor), KENDRICK LAD (K. Forrester) and OLD BELVEDERE (J. Byrne) raced wide throughout.
