SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
As C. Reith and S. Katsidis were indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Jockey C. Spry was permitted to ride half a kilogram overweight on MR MISTER in race 1 and CANADIAN BUNNY in race 2 as there were no other riders available. Jockey C. Spry was fined
$600. AR120(b).
Race 1: Nivea Sun Class 6 Plate – 2106m
1st – Rezone 2nd – Sir Coup 3rd – Tariki 4th – Craiglea Countess
The starting time of this race was delayed due to the late arrival of the ambulance.
HOPESON (K. Forrester) jumped away awkwardly.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, HOPESON (K. Forrester), which was inclined to lay in, had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by SPECTACULAR PIC (S. Scriven), which was taken in slightly by CRAIGLEA COUNTESS (A. Pattillo).
GRAND LADDIE (J. Taylor) was inclined to overrace in the early and middle stages.
Near the 800m, SIR COUP (J. Byrne) clipped the heels of CZARBOY (L. Morrison) and blundered. REZONE (K. Pope), which was following, was momentarily inconvenienced.
Rounding the home turn, WELL RESEARCHED (A. Spinks) shifted out, making contact with MR MISTER (C. Spry).
GLOGIRL (B. El-Issa) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight.
CZARBOY (L. Morrison) was forced to race wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of GRAND LADDIE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
A swab sample was taken from 2nd placegetter SIR COUP.
Race 2: Fitness First NMW H’cap - 1200m
1st – Snow Destiny 2nd – One Eyed 3rd – Carry On Doctor 4th – Craiglea Warrior
ALTAICA (K. Pope) jumped away awkwardly and had to be steadied off the heels of CRAIGLEA WARRIOR (B. Pengelly).
Approaching the 300m, LUCIANO (L. Morrison) was momentarily inconvenienced when disappointed for a run between QUALO STAR (K. Forrester) and ONE EYED (T. Treichel), which shifted out to improve.
BYTHEMOUNTAIN (S. Galloway) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
Approaching the 400m, WYREEMA (J. Holder) shifted in and brushed ONE EYED (T. Treichel).
Race 3: National Jockeys Day H’cap - 1500m
1st –Colonial Lass 2nd – Rapid Reason 3rd – Leica Launch 4th – In Rehearsal
IN REHEARSAL (J. Byrne), which was a little slow to begin, jumped inwards and made contact with the hind quarters of LEICA LAUNCH (J. Holder).
MYNDOS (L. Morrison) overraced in the early and middle stages.
S. Scriven, rider of TEN TO COUNTDOWN, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 1100m when insufficiently clear, tightening MYNDOS (L. Morrison), which had a tendency to overrace. MYDOS then shifted in, crowding COLONIAL LASS (R. Wiggins) and LEICA LAUNCH (J. Holder) for a short distance.
DOONAN DANCER (A. Pattillo) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of TEN TO COUNTDOWN failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4: Subiaco Hair J.F. Maynink 2yo C&G Stakes - 1000m
1st – Acorns 2nd – Jazz Heart 3rd – Mr Orient 4th – General Purple
REAL GOOD THINGS (A. Spinks) and GENERAL PURPLE (B. Pengelly) were slow to begin.
TAMWORTH (S. Scriven) and WILLOWIE LAD (S. Galloway) were both slow to begin and came together on jumping away.
Near the 700m, REAL GOOD THING (A. Spinks) had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of TAMWORTH (S. Scriven), which was racing greenly and shifted in.
Approaching the 600m, JAZZ HEART (A. Robinson) had to be steadied when momentarily placed in restricted room to the inside of KICKITBACKLOW (K. Wharton).
Passing the 600m, JAZZ HEART shifted in and brushed ASTATUS (K. Pope).
Approaching the 200m, CELERITY (J. Byrne) broke down in the near foreleg. GENERAL PURPLE (B. Pengelly), which was following, had to be checked and alter course abruptly to avoid CELERITY. CELERITY was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.
Race 5: Schweppes C.E. McDougall Stakes - 1000m
1st – Black Minx 2nd – Saratoga 3rd – Lucky Kentucky 4th – Crevasse
ZAHNOOCHI (A. Robinson) was slow to begin.
KINESIS KISS (K. Wharton) jumped outwards at the start and brushed SARATOGA (P. Wolfgram). SARATOGA in turn shifted out and bumped KIRRA LYN (M. Price), which then shifted out abruptly, hampering LUCKY KENTUCKY (T. Treichel) and CIRCUMNAVIGATE (S. Scriven), which was a little slow to begin.
FILLE DE NEIGE (C. Spry) raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.
LUCKY KENTUCKY was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.
MAGNIFICENT DANCER pulled up lame in the near foreleg. Trainer S. Jones was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for the filly prior to its next race start.
Race 6: Rosemount Diamond 3yo Plate - 1200m
1st – Borsha’s Mark 2nd – Chinchilla Rose 3rd – Sutton Friend 4th – Heart Of The Citi
Prior to correct weight being announced, C. Spry, rider of the 6th placegetter, LADY SHOWHEART, made application that he was denied a fair start. After taking evidence from starter Mr P. Cousins, trainer Mr K. Kemp and C. Spry, stewards were of the opinion that LADY SHOWHEART, which was fractious prior to the gates opening, was afforded every opportunity to jump and was slowly away of its own accord and therefore declared the filly a runner.
ATOMIC HUSS (A. Pattillo) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
MY MAN MURPHY (S. Scriven) and CONQUERING SPIRIT (B. Stewart) came together on jumping away.
MFUWE (T. Treichel) was slow to begin.
A. Spinks, rider of EMBRACING, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1000m he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting in near the 1000m, and in doing so has taken ACQUIRED (B. El-Issa) in, which in turn forced PRIDE OF POWER (J. Holder) in, which as a consequence shifted in, tightening the running of REGAL CASTANEA (S. Galloway). REGAL CASTANEA then shifted in tightening MISTRESS OF DREAMS (R. Wiggins), which in turn shifted in, tightening LADY SHOWHEART (C. Spry), which had to be checked and lost considerable ground. A. Spinks was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 5 March, and to expire at midnight, 19 March 2008.
Near the 1100m, MY MAN MURPHY was momentarily placed in restricted room between BORSHA’S MARK (D. Griffin), which shifted out slightly, and CONQUERING SPIRIT (B. Stewart), which shifted in.
Passing the 1000m, CONQUERING SPIRIT (B. Stewart) momentarily had to be steadied to avoid heels of BOSCOBABE (P. Wolfgram), which was taken in by HEART OF THE CITI (B. Pengelly). A short distance later, BOSCABABE had to be steadied to avoid the heels of HEART OF THE CITI, which shifted in. B. Pengelly, rider of HEART OF THE CITI, was severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.
Near the 700m, SUTTON FRIEND (J. Byrne) improved up on to the heels of BOSCOBABE (P. Wolfgram) and shifted out. SUTTON FRIEND was then obliged to race wide.
Rounding home turn, BORSHA’S MARK shifted out to improve, forcing MY MAN MURPHY (S. Scriven) out on to BOSCOBABE.
REGAL CASTANEA (S. Galloway) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the straight.
Near the 350m, BORSHA’S MARK shifted out and made contact with MY MAN MURPHY.
CONQUERING SPIRIT shifted out and brushed ACQUIRED at the 300m and again passing the 100m.
EMBRACING (A. Spinks) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of LADY SHOWHEART revealed the filly to be sore in the near knee.
Jockey P. Wolfgram was fined $100 for failing to seek stewards’ permission to leave the racecourse. LR49.
Race 7: Rosemount O Falvelon Quality H’cap - 1200m
1st – Atapi 2nd – Daunting Lad 3rd – Stolit 4th – Hard To Catch
RASMUSSEN (D. Griffin) jumped away awkwardly.
MITANNI (S. Scriven) and ATAPI (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.
Near the 1000m, DAUNTING LAD (A. Pattillo) was placed in restricted room between BOLD REASON (J. Taylor) and STOLIT (A. Spinks), which shifted in and as a result DAUTING LAD (A. Pattillo) had to be steadied. A. Spinks, rider of STOLIT, was severely reprimanded.
Approaching the 200m, COCKTAIL SUPREME (B. El-Issa) improved up on to the heels of BOLD REASON (J. Taylor) and had to be momentarily eased.
Passing the 200m, MITANNI (S. Scriven) was momentarily held up behind the heels of the tiring DEVIL INSIDE (A. Robinson).
RASMUSSEN and DAUNTING LAD (A. Pattillo) were forced to race 3 wide throughout.
Race 8: XXXX Gold Class 6 H’cap - 1400m
1st – Limarki 2nd – Charvicki 3rd – Feelin Dandy 4th – Sequestrate
Shortly after jumping away, SEQUESTRATE (A. Pattillo) was tightened for room between PALACE LOVER (J. Byrne) and SHALE SHAKER (J. Taylor), which was taken in slightly by WAKIL (P. Wells).
REINCARNATION (A. Spinks) and LIMARKI (R. Mason) brushed on jumping away.
SIR SENSIBLE (M. Palmer) was tightened for room on jumping away between CRAIGLEA CHARM (B. Pengelly) and RED SPHERE (B. Stewart), both of which shifted ground.
Passing the 1200m, when being restrained, UPILIO (S. Scriven) got its head in the air and overraced for a short distance.
A. Robinson, rider of DAEDALUS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that near the 1000m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of FALZIG (J. Holder), which in turn shifted in, tightening the running of RED SPHERE (B. Stewart), which in turn shifted in, tightening the running of CRAIGLEA CHARM (B. Pengelly). As a result of that crowding, RED SPHERE and CRAIGLEA CHARM lost their positions. As a consequence, CRAIGLEA CHARM then shifted in, making contact with the hind quarters of UPILIO, which became unbalanced. UPILIO continued to overrace for a short distance. A. Robinson was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 meetings, to commence at midnight, 4 March, and to expire at midnight, 19 March 2008.
DAEDALUS was forced to race wide in the middle stages.
Passing the 800m, CRAIGLEA CHARM improved to the outside of UPILIO and in doing so made contact with RED SPHERE.
Approaching the 200m, SEQUESTRATE (A. Pattillo) and CRAIGLEA CHARM came together.
CHARVICKY (R. Wiggins) shifted ground under pressure over the concluding stages.
WAKIL (P. Wells) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of UPILIO revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that he must provide to stewards the results of an ECG to be conducted on UPILIO, and that the gelding must barrier trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
