Race 1: THE PROP HOUSE GRAND PRIX STAKES - 2100m
1st – Bell Academy 2nd – Teary Eyed 3rd – Petushki 4th – Dont Call Me Bruce
BELL ACADEMY (G. Schofield) jumped out at the start and made contact with the hind quarters of NORSE CODE (R. McMahon).
Passing the winning post on the first occasion TAIKO (R. Thompson) had to be steadied when tightened for room by TRIPITZ (B. Stewart), which was taken in by LET HIM GO (A. Pattillo). A. Pattillo was severely reprimanded under AR. 137(a) for careless riding.
SHOWCITI (S. Seamer) overraced in the early and middle stages.
Passing the 1500m BELL ACADEMY shifted three wide and stayed three wide for the remainder of the event.
Near the 700m PETUSHKI (L. Innes) shifted out to improve and made contact with FORDEE (C. Brown).
Near the 50m NORSE CODE was momentarily impeded after improving up on to the heels of TEARY EYED (R. Wiggins).
A post-race veterinary examination of TEARY EYED revealed that horse to be showing signs of respiratory distress and cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer S. Dwyer was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance and the results of an ECG before the horse’s next race start.
Race 2: MYER SIR EDWARD WILLIAMS H’CAP - 1500m
1st – Litter 2nd – Ready When You Are 3rd – Mr Baritone 4th – Colonial Lass
Approaching the 1400m READY WHEN YOU ARE (R. Wiggins) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of LAURA’S CHARM which shifted out.
EVILWEB (A. Pattillo), READY WHEN YOU ARE and ROMAN SQUIRE (B. Pengelly) raced wide for the majority of the event.
BIANCA (C. Newitt) raced wide in the middle stages.
Rounding the home turn ROMAN SQUIRE had to be momentarily eased to avoid the heels of PAY ME (T. Pannell), which was taken out by MASAI PRIDE (C. Brown), which had shifted out to improve.
Shortly after entering the straight J. Byrne, the rider of COLONIAL LASS, accidentally dropped his whip.
A post-race veterinary examination of PAY ME failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 3: SEPPELT WINES P.J. O’SHEA STAKES - 2200m
1st – Scenic Shot 2nd – Rampant Lion 3rd – Doug’s Mate 4th – Hofmeister
DOUG’S MATE (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.
HOFMEISTER (M. Zahra) jumped away awkwardly.
Near the 1500m LIKE IT IS (S. Murphy) shifted out off the heels of STORMHILL (H. Bowman) and in doing so forced RAMPANT LION (S. Scriven) three wide. S. Scriven was then obliged to allow his mount to stride forward to take up the lead.
A post-race veterinary examination of LIKE IT IS revealed the horse to be suffering respiratory distress. Trainer D. Weir will be notified that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for LIKE IT IS prior to its next start.
When questioned regarding the performance of STORMHILL, jockey H. Bowman stated that after obtaining the lead near the 1800m the horse had a tendency to race keenly with him until near the 1000m. He added that from that point onwards the horse was under pressure and failed to respond to his riding. Trainer T. Martin could offer no excuses for the horse’s performance and undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light subsequent to the event which may have affected the horse’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination of STORMHILL failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4: THE CONRAD TREASURY BRISBANE PLATE - 1400m
1st – Tan Tat De Lago 2nd – Royal Discretion 3rd – Vandalo 4th – Walking Or Dancing
COURT AWARD (N. Paine) and TAGUS (M. Zahra) came together on jumping away. As a result, TAGUS shifted out and made contact with BARCLAYS (M. Cahill).
Passing the 1300m CROSSTHESTART (C. Newitt) improved up on to the heels of BELLA VALENTINA (R. McMahon) and had to be steadied.
Near the 1000m HEART OF THE CITI (B. Pengelly) had to be momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of MR UNFORGETTABLE (G. Colless) which shifted in.
INDIANA STORM (R. Wiggins) and HEART OF THE CITI raced wide throughout.
VANDALO (S. Arnold) also had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.
BELLA VALENTINA was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.
Approaching the 100m WALKING OR DANCING (G. Schofield) shifted out, momentarily hampering ABIRRA (A. Pattillo).
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MR UNFORGETTABLE, jockey G. Colless stated that although the horse travelled well in the early stages, when placed under pressure it failed to respond to his riding. G. Colless added that in his opinion the horse failed to handle today’s track conditions. His explanation was noted. A post-race veterinary examination of MR UNFORGETTABLE revealed that the horse had sustained an abrasion on the back of its off hock.
A post-race veterinary examination of HEART OF THE CITI failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: SCHWEPPES SIRES’ PRODUCE STAKES - 1400m
1st – Fravashi 2nd – Rockdale 3rd – Cat D’Antibes 4th – Saratoga
PRIVILEGED CLASS (G. Palmer) and ROCKDALE (C. Newitt) came together on jumping away.
Near the 1100m FRAVASHI (C. Brown) shifted out forcing ADNOCON (M. Cahill) and COUNTY RAIDER (S. Galloway) wider on the track. COUNTY RAIDER then commenced to overrace.
ADNOCON and COUNTY RAIDER raced wide throughout.
FRAVASHI was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
Race 6: CONRAD TREASURY QUEENSLAND OAKS - 2400m
1st – Riva San 2nd – Rathsallagh 3rd – Heavenly Glow 4th – Dandee Topwin
RIVA SAN (S. Seamer) jumped in the air at the start.
HEAVENLY GLOW (R. Thompson) jumped away awkwardly.
MISS MAREN (C. Newitt) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out and made contact with MY JOLIENE (B. Stewart).
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion MY JOLIENE commenced to overrace at the heels of MISS MAREN and did so for some distance.
At the winning post on the first occasion RIVA SAN was momentarily tightened for room by PENTACITY (G. Colless) which shifted in.
Near the 1900m DONOR AMORIS (P. Wolfgram) improved up on to the heels of MAGNIFIQUE LASS (C. Brown) and had to be steadied.
PENTURA (L. Innes) raced wide in the early stages.
RIVA SAN raced wide in the middle stages.
RATHSALLAGH (M. Zahra) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
DANDEE TOPWIN (G. Schofield) and HEAVENLY GLOW were forced to make the home turn wide.
Approaching the 300m RATHSALLAGH had difficulty obtaining clear running.
Jockey R. Thompson, the rider of HEAVENLY GLOW, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), the careless riding being that passing the 200m he permitted his mount to shift in, contributing to DANDEE TOPWIN (G. Schofield) having to be checked when tightened between HEAVENLY GLOW and RIVA SAN (S. Seamer), which shifted out. Jockey S. Seamer, the rider of RIVA SAN, also pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), the careless riding being that passing the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of DANDEE TOPWIN, contributing to interference suffered by that horse, which had to be checked by its rider G. Schofield when tightened between RIVA SAN and HEAVENLY GLOW, which shifted in. R. Thompson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Tuesday, 3 June, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 11 June 2008. In addition, R. Thompson was fined $1,000. S. Seamer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Wednesday 4 June, and expire at midnight on Thursday, 12 June 2008. In addition, S. Seamer was fined $2,000.
When questioned regarding the performance of PENTACITY, jockey G. Colless stated that the filly had travelled well throughout the event on the back of HEAVENLY GLOW, however when asked for an effort shortly after straightening, she failed to respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination of PENTACITY revealed that it had lost its near fore plate in running and sustained a puncture wound on the off fore cannon.
A post-race veterinary examination of HEAVENLY GLOW revealed a wound to the near hind upper cannon.
Race 7: TCL ELECTRONICS Q.T.C. CUP - 1300m
1st – Chinchilla Rose 2nd – Black Ink 3rd – Easy Rocker 4th – Mr Hornblower
SEQUESTRATE (A. Pattillo) jumped in at the start and made heavy contact with the barrier partition. SEQUESTRATE continued to shift in and made contact with DAUNTING LAD (G. Schofield). Following the event A. Pattillo was stood down by the Club doctor as he had sustained an injury to his right foot.
BEARCOUNTRY (R. Wiggins) and CHINCHILLA ROSE (S. Baster) came together on jumping away.
EQUATES (M. Morris) jumped away awkwardly.
Shortly after the start MR HORNBLOWER (T. Pannell) was placed in restricted room between CHINCHILLA ROSE and STREET SMART (R. McMahon) which shifted in.
EASY ROCKER (L. Morrison) raced keenly in the early stages.
Near the 1000m BEARCOUNTRY had to be steadied to avoid the heels of CHINCHILLA ROSE which shifted in. BEARCOUNTRY then overraced at the heels of CHINCHILLA ROSE for some distance.
SEQUESTRATE was forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
C. Newitt was stood down by the Club doctor following the event.
Race 8: PATINACK FARM DANE RIPPER STAKES - 1400m
1st – Vietnam 2nd – Seconde 3rd – Quizzical Lady 4th – Diamond Cove
As both C. Newitt and A. Pattillo were indisposed, T. Pannell was substituted as the rider of ZIPANESE and L. Morrison as the rider of SECONDE.
DANCE GIRL DANCE (R. Thompson) stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground.
POIYM (P. Wolfgram) raced wide throughout.
Near the 300m DANASIERRA (B. Stewart) and SECONDE (L. Morrison) bumped on several occasions.
Approaching the 100m DANASIERRA shifted out taking PRIMA NOVA (S. Baster) out slightly. A short distance later PRIMA NOVA shifted back in, taking DANASIERRA in, resulting in CAMARILLA (C. Brown) having to be steadied and shifting in making contact with ZIPANESE (T. Pannell).
A post-race veterinary examination of SEQUENTIAL CHARM (J. Byrne) revealed an abnormal respiratory noise.
A post-race veterinary examination of CAMARILLA revealed soreness in the lower back and an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer P. Snowden was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for CAMARILLA before its next start.
