Race 1: XXXX Gold 2 MW Last Year H’cap - 2118m
1st – Majestic Sight 2nd – Narredson 3rd – Skyleda 4th – Lancaster Park
SKYLEDA cast its off fore plate at the barriers and required farrier attention.
SKYLEDA (R. McMahon) and NARREDSON (J. Byrne) came together on jumping away.
Race 2: Australian Special Metals 2MW H’cap - 1500m
1st – Mr Slick 2nd – Feelin Dandy 3rd – Ready When You Are 4th – Craiglea Warrior
LOMBARDY (J. Holder) was tightened for room on jumping away between CALL TO ORDER (D. Nikolic), which shifted in, and MR SLICK (C. Brown), which was taken out by READY WHEN YOU ARE (J. Byrne).
Near the 800m, MR SLICK had to be momentarily steadied when tightened for room by FEELIN DANDY (M. Radecker), which shifted in.
A post race veterinary examination of CALL TO ORDER failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 3: Ambassador Travel Sir Douglas Wadley 2yo Fillies - 1200m
1st – Black Minx 2nd – Daddys Little Girl 3rd – Calm Before 4th - Saratoga
CLOUDCATHER was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 1.21 pm after the filly was unable to be loaded into the barriers. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on CLOUDCATHER were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 10 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets. Trainer P. Bloomfield was advised that CLOUDCATHER will be required to trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.
MY MY MAREE (B. Pengelly), BINGIL BAY (C. Newitt) and PASSIONATELY YOURS (L. Morrison) were all tightened for room on jumping away between HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN (G. Colless), which shifted in, and DADDY’S LITTLE GIRL (R. McMahon), which shifted out.
CHOOSE A STAR (G Schofield) and WITHOUTME (D. Oliver) came together on jumping away.
CALM BEFORE (S. Scriven) jumped away awkwardly.
SATURN FIVE (E. Wilkinson) and SARATOGA (P. Wolfgram) bumped on jumping away.
Shortly after the start, WITHOUTME (D. Oliver) and CHOOSE A STAR (G. Schofield) were tightened for room between HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN (G. Colless), which shifted out, and GOLD WATER (C. Brown), which shifted in and away from LOVE HIT ME (B. Stewart).
BINGIL BAY overraced in the early stages.
Near the 800m, BLACK MINX (J. Byrne) and VULCANIA (J. Taylor) were obliged to race in race in restricted room for a short distance to the inside of CALM BEFORE (S. Scriven), which shifted in. S. Scriven, rider of CALM BEFORE, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care.
C. Brown, rider of GOLD WATER, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 600m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LOVE HIT ME (B. Stewart), resulting in LOVE HIT ME shifting in, tightening VULCANIA. As a result VULCANIA lost its rightful position and shifted in, tightening the running of DADDYS LITTLE GIRL (R. McMahon). C. Brown was suspended for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 11 June and to expire at midnight, 25 June 2008. C. Brown was also fined the sum of $500.
SATURN FIVE (E. Wilkinson) and SARATOGA (P. Wolfgram) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examination of MY MY MAREE (B. Pengelly) revealed the filly to have a haematoma mid back.
Race 4: Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation QTIS 3yo H’cap - 1200m
1st – Albert The Fat 2nd – Magic Promenade 3rd – Borsha’s Mark 4th – Another Takeover
PELLTRO (M. Price), MFUWE (J. Byrne), ALBERT THE FAT (A. Pattillo) and OUR CHARLIEMAC (K. Forrester) were all tightened for room on jumping away between SHUDULE GEE (L. Morrison) and AZZALAND (G. Colless), which shifted out.
Passing the 800m, SOMMERSEA DRIVE (D. Nikolic) had to be steadied off the heels of BORSHA’S MARK (C. Williams).
FROSTY (Michael Palmer) and SOMMERSEA DRIVE raced wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the performance of MFUWE, J. Byrne stated that, in his opinion, the gelding failed to handle today’s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of MFUWE failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: Myer QTC Lightning Quality H’cap - 1000m
1st – Devil Inside 2nd – Fritz’s Princess 3rd –Stolit 4th – Alverta
SHEEZVALUE (C. Williams), ST VERDI (C. Newitt) were tightened for room on jumping away between FORESTRENO (A. Pattillo) and XAARDANTE (R. McMahon), which shifted in.
JAZELLA (L. Innes) was tightened for room at the start between NESSUNO (B. El-Issa) and KUTALO (L. Morrison), which jumped outwards at the start.
Approaching the 200m, LASORON (P. Hammersley) was disappointed for a run between SHEEZVALUE (C. Williams) and NESSUNO (B. El-Issa) where there was doubtful room.
XAARDANTE (R. McMahon), SHEEZVALUE (C. Williams), GENERAL PATTON (B. Pengelly), ALVERTA (G. Schofield) and ST VERDI raced wide.
Race 6: BMW Queensland 3yo Derby - 2400m
1st – Riva San 2nd – Petushki 3rd – Moatize 4th – Rainbow Styling
Shortly after the start, RATHSALLAGH (M. Zahra) was tightened for room between MY SWEET COOKIE (S. Arnold) and DALZAR (K. Wharton), which was taken in by DON’T CALL ME BRUCE (B. El-Issa).
M. Zahra, rider of RATHSALLAGH, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in near the 2300m, resulting in BELL ACADEMY (D. Nikolic) having to be steadied to avoid that horse’s heels.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, MYNEWBESTFRIEND (V. Colgan) shifted in and made heavy contact with BELL ACADEMY (D. Nikolic).
Near the 2100m, INNOVATOR (M. Cahill) shifted in, taking MYNEWBESTFRIEND in on to
BELL ACADEMY. BELL ACADEMY then continued to shift in and away from MYNEWBESTFRIEND, resulting in WHERE’S HENRY (P. Mertens) having to be steadied. Whilst stewards acknowledged that the racing manners of BELL ACADEMY did contribute to the incident, M. Cahill, rider of INNOVATOR, was nonetheless reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in at that stage.
C. Williams, rider of MOATIZE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 2100m he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of MY LIMIT, resulting in MY LIMIT losing its position when being severely crowded for room between MOATIZE and CIRCLE OF FAME (G. Schofield), which was also hampered. C. Williams was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 9 June, and to expire at midnight, 21 June 2008. C. Williams was also fined the sum of $1000.
Near the 1700m, HAVAYARN (G. Colless) had to be checked when that horse shifted out across the heels of CIRCLE OF FAME (G. Schofield).
Passing the 1800m, BELL ACADEMY had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room by DALZAR (K. Wharton), which shifted in. K. Wharton, rider of DALZAR, was advised to exercise more care.
Near the 800m, RIVA SAN (J. Byrne), which was endeavouring to force CIRCLE OF FAME (G. Schofield) wider on the track, clipped the heels of HAVAYARN (G. Colless) and blundered. BELL ACADEMY, which was following, had to be steadied as a consequence.
PETUSHKI (L. Innes) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight, and passing the 400m, was obliged to shift out abruptly off the heels of NORSE CODE (C. Newitt) to obtain clear running. BELL ACADEMY was hampered in this incident.
V. Colgan, rider of MYNEWBESTFRIEND, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in passing the 200m, making heavy contact with BELL ACADEMY (D. Nikolic) on 2 occasions.
Near the 100m, BELL ACADEMY (D. Nikolic) was momentarily impeded when racing between WHERE’S HENRY (P. Mertens) and DONAR AMORIS (P. Wolfgram), which shifted out.
MY LIMIT (S. Scriven) was forced to race wide for the majority of the event.
When questioned regarding the performance of RATHSALLAGH, M. Zahra stated that the horse was under pressure from a point near the 800m. He further added that, in his opinion, the filly may not have backed up from her hard run in the Queensland Oaks the previous week.
A post race veterinary examination of MY LIMIT revealed the gelding had pulled up with muscle spasms in the chest, slight ataxia in the hind legs and slight cardiac arrythmia. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for MY LIMIT prior to its next race start.
Race 7: AAMI Stradbroke Group 1 H’cap - 1400m
1st – Mr Baritone 2nd – Hard To Catch 3rd – Double Dare 4th – Absolut Glam
CHINCHILLA ROSE (S. Baster) jumped outwards at the start, making contact with SNIPER’S BULLET (C. Williams).
S. King, rider of VORMISTA, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 300m he allowed his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of EL CAMBIO (C. Brown), resulting in EL CAMBIO being crowded between SNIPER’S BULLET (C. Williams) and VORMISTA which shifted out. As a result, EL CAMBIO became unbalanced. S. King was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 11 June, and to expire at midnight, 25 June. S. King was also fined the sum of $1000.
Near the 200m, SWISS ACE (J. Taylor), which was weakening, was momentarily tightened for room between DIPLOMATIC FORCE (J. Benbow) and DOUBLE DARE (D. Nikolic), which shifted out to improve.
Passing the 100m, DOUBLE DARE (D. Nikolic) became unbalanced when tightened for room between OMNITRADER (Michael Palmer), which was taken out slightly by MR BARITONE (S. Murhy), and ABSOLUT GLAM (P. Mertens), which shifted in and made contact with DOUBLE DARE (D. Nikolic). P. Mertens, rider of ABSOLUT GLAM, was severely reprimanded.
HELIDECK (R. McMahon), ABSOLUT GLAM (P. Mertens), SNIPER’S BULLET and
GERMAN CHOCOLATE (M. Zahra) raced wide throughout.
A post race veterinary examinations:
· SNIPER’S BULLET revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the near hind heel.
· ATAPI lost its near fore plate in running and was tender in that foot.
· EL CAMBIO was examined with no abnormalities detected.
Race 8: Winning Edge Presentations Class 6 4-YO & Up H’cap - 1200m
1st – Vocalic 2nd – Mi Casa Su Casa 3rd – Chevron Island 4th – Paymore
PLAYGROUND EXPRESS (D. Nikolic) and NEPRO (S. Galloway) were slow to begin.
D. Spriggs reported that CHEVRON ISLAND had a tendency to lay out throughout.
FASLIYITSA (S. Baster) raced wide throughout.
WESLEY MANOR lost its near fore plate in running.
