Race 1: Lyndhurst Stud Class 6 H’cap – 1826m
1st – Hy Dream 2nd – Kaapafire 3rd – Sir Coup 4th – Fat Possum

Trainer R. Otto was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for KAAPAFIRE by the prescribed time.

PASS THE PLATE (J. Taylor) and THE CAVERN CLUB (A. Pattillo) raced wide in the early stages.

When the pace steadied near the 1500m, SPECTACULAR PIC (K. Forrester) had to be steadied off the heels of KAAPAFIRE (C. Grylls) and shifted in abruptly, tightening TAKE THE PLEA (R. McMahon).

Near the 1200m when the pace steadied, KAAPAFIRE (C. Grylls) shifted out off the heels of SIR COUP (L. Morrison). SPECTACULAR PIC (K. Forrester) then improved to the inside of KAAPAFIRE, and when KAAPAFIRE shifted back in, SPECTACULAR PIC shifted in, hampering TAKE THE PLEA. C Grylls, rider of KAAPAFIRE, was reprimanded.

MONTOUX (M. Palmer) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Near the 400m, KAAPAFIRE laid in behind the heels of FAT POSSUM (J. Byrne) and had to be momentarily steadied.

HOW BRAVE (D. Nikolic) raced wide throughout.

Race 2: Express Post H’cap – NMW - 1000m
1st – Burdekin Blues 2nd – She’s A Mountain 3rd – Long And Strong 4th – Patties Mate

Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for the late scratching of Heart Of The Lion (Trainer P. Strong).

RING RING, which was kicked by another horse in the enclosure, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon at the barriers and passed fit to start.

RED HOT PISTOL (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.

BURDEKIN BLUES (D. Nikolic) and THE HAND (N. Rawiller) came together on jumping away.

When questioned regarding the performance of PAGAN COUNTY, J. Holder stated that, in his opinion, the horse failed to handle today’s track conditions.

A post race veterinary examination of RED HOT PISTOL failed to reveal any abnormalities.

CAPTAIN FANTASTIC (D. Oliver) jumped inwards at the start, making contact with BHUTANE DANE (N. Rawiller).

FRAVASHI (C. Brown) and BACI AMORE (B. Pengelly) came together on jumping away.

ROCKDALE (M. Zahra) was inclined to shift ground under pressure over the concluding stages.

When questioned regarding the performance of FRAVASHI, jockey C. Brown was unable to offer any excuses other than the horse had peaked on its run near the 300m and only laboured to the line. He further added that FRAVASHI may have struggled to run out the distance on the rain affected track. A post race veterinary examination of FRAVASHI revealed the colt was lame in the off hind leg. Trainer P. Snowden was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for FRAVASHI prior to its next race start.

Race 5: Phil Sullivan H’cap - 1600m
1st – Rags To Riches 2nd – Belmonte 3rd – Jamorca 4th – Sir Xaar

SIR XAAR (J. Holder) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FORT ‘N’ WON, C. Brown stated that the horse travelled well in running, however when asked for a effort shortly after straightening, the gelding failed to respond to his riding. Trainer G. Ryan was at a loss to explain the performance of FORT ‘N’ WON, and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which may come to light in the days following the race.

MALTA (G. Schofield) and PAY ME (T. Pannell) raced wide throughout.

Race 6: Mitty’s Queensland Guineas Group 2 - 1600m
1st – Turffontein 2nd – Royal Discretion 3rd – Pepperwood 4th – Tan Tat De Lago

Passing the 150m, COOL DUKE (D. Oliver) was momentarily placed in restricted room between WOODY ‘N’ BUZZ (G. Colless) an MAUNATRICE, which shifted out slightly.

Approaching 50m, WOOD ‘N’ BUZZ (G. Colless) faltered in the going.

VANDALO (S. Arnold) and WALKING OR DANCING (G. Schofield) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the performance of VANDALO, S. Arnold stated that, in his opinion, the slow tempo of the race did not suit the horse. He further added that he felt the horse may not have been entirely comfortable in today’s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination of VANDALO revealed the gelding to have sustained a cut to the medial aspect of the near fore fetlock.

Near the 1900m, CHIEFCOMINGFIRST (L. Morrison) shifted out abruptly, making heavy contact with ROMAN ARCH (S. Scriven). DOUG’S MATE (J. Byrne) and SKY BISCUIT (D. Spriggs) were hampered in consequence. DEVESTATING (G. Schofield), which was racing behind SKY BISCUIT, shifted out, forcing SCENIC SHOT (G. Colless), VIEWED and SCATTERGUN wider on the track. VIEWED was then obliged to race wide for the remainder of the event.

Passing the 1600m, SCENIC SHOT shifted out off the heels of DOUG’S MATE, forcing SCATTERGUN wider on the track. SCATTERGUN was then obliged to race wide in the middle stages.

At the 1300m, ROMAN ARCH (S. Scriven), which was overracing due to the slow tempo of the event, shifted out, placing SCENIC SHOT in restricted room between that horse and SCATTERGUN.

DEVESTATING had to be steadied near the 1200m when obliged to race in restricted room between SCENIC SHOT, which shifted in slightly, and DOUG’S MATE (J. Byrne), which shifted out. As a result of DEVESTATING being inconvenienced, TOMMIFRANCS (C. Brown) was also hampered.

Near the 1000m, FAST FUTURE (Pegus) and LUVULEO (P. Wells) were forced to race in restricted room to the inside of VIEWED (D. Oliver), which had been overracing in the middle stages and shifted in slightly.

At the same stage, CHIEFCOMINGFIRST (L. Morrison) and KING LATARMISS (J. Taylor) were also obliged to race in restricted room to the inside of SCATTERGUN (D. Nikolic), which shifted in momentarily.
