SUPPLEMENTARY

R. Rowley the trainer of LEONARDI ON ICE was fined $300.00 under the provisions AR140(c) for failing to advise stewards of a condition which required treatment subsequent to it running at Ipswich on 4 May 2009.


Race 1: The Prop House Grand Prix Group 3 3YO Stakes - 2200m
1st – Saint Minerva 2nd – Markus Maximus 3rd – The Grogoch 4th - Kincaple

NEWSNIGHT (J. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly.

LEBRECHAUN (K. McEvoy) and KINCAPLE (B. Shin) were both slow to begin.

SAINT MINERVA (C. Williams), INCENDIO (L. Cassidy) and DAVE THE DUDE (S. Seamer) all raced three wide for the majority of the race.

Near the 700m SATULA (M. Palmer) attempted to shift to the outside of the heels of the tiring COMMANCHE WARRIOR (C. Brown) and in doing so made contact with the hind quarters of SAINT MINERVA (C. Williams). As a result SATULA and COMMANCHE WARRIOR became unbalanced.

A post race veterinary examination of COMMANCHE WARRIOR revealed the gelding to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that he must produce the results of an ECG for COMMANCAHE WARRIOR and the horse must perform to the stewards’ satisfaction in an official barrier trial before it races again.



Race 2: Myer Sir Edward Williams H’Cap - 1500m
1st – Soiled 2nd – Obvious Choice 3rd – Lucky Luna 4th – Steel Lips

Stewards acceded to a request by C. Brown to ride CENTOVER a half a kilo overweight as there was no rider available to ride at the weight.

SAM’S EXPRESS (App B. Evans) jumped in at the start making contact with EIRE OF MAGIC (J. Taylor), which in turn hampered PAY ME (C. Reith).

Soon after the start STEEL LIPS (B. El-Issa) was tightened for room between PLENTY OF PRACTISE (App O. Turpin) and SOILED (C. Williams), which shifted in.

Near the 1100m SAM’S EXPRESS shifted in taking EIRE OF MAGIC in onto REGAL CASTANEA (J. Byrne). A short distance later EIRE OF MAGIC then shifted in and away from SAM’S EXPRESS further tightening the running of REGAL CASTANEA, which had to be steadied.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of RAGS TO RICHES jockey G. Colless stated that he had been instructed to lead however, the horse did not possess sufficient speed. G. Colless explained that in his opinion the horse is better suited when able to lead and dictate terms. G. Colless added that after racing midfield the horse failed to respond to his riding in the straight and proved disappointing.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SAM’S EXPRESS App B. Evans stated that the horse did not show its customary early speed and he was obliged to urge SAM’S EXPRESS forward in order to hold his position. App B. Evans further stated that SAM’S EXPRESS usually races strongly in its races and he felt the horse may have come to the end of its preparation.

A post race veterinary examination of RAGS TO RICHES failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of MALAMBO revealed the gelding to be suffering from slight post race distress.


Race 3: The Conrad Treasury Brisbane Plate - 1400m
1st – Youthful Jack 2nd – Geeza 3rd – Little Mel 4th – I Robot

LOCAL TALENT (App A. Taylor) which jumped away awkwardly, had to be checked shortly after the start when tightened for room between YOUTHFUL JACK (C. Brown) and LITTLE MEL (T. Treichel), which was taken in by DORF COMMAND (K. McEvoy), which in turn was taken in by CAT D’ANTIBES (L. Cassidy).

JAZZ HEART (S. Scriven) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

EXPRESS AIR (B. Pengelly) and ACADEMY MAGIC (M. Cahill) were both slow to begin.

LOCAL TALENT commenced to overrace and then took charge of its rider in the early stages and shifted wider on the track. Trainer B. Baldwin was advised that the horse must trial satisfactorily before racing again.

JAZZ HEART, I ROBOT (App C. Grylls) and ACADEMY MAGIC all raced wide for the majority of the event.

Approaching the 300m HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN (G. Colless) had to be steadied when tightened for room between JAZZ HEART and YOUTHFUL JACK, which was going forward to its outside. At the same stage N. Rawiller (TRUE TALES), when attempting to shift his horse around the heels of HIGH ROLL’N WOMAN to improve was inconvenienced and obliged to shift out and in doing so hampered SINFUL WARRIOR (B. El-Issa).

Approaching the 300m LITTLE MEL was momentarily held up for clear running. At the same stage DORF COMMAND was also held up and unable to obtain clear running for a short distance.

YOUTHFUL JACK had a tendency to lay in over the concluding stages.

B. Hull the rider of CELESTAFY was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount when he placed it under pressure in the straight.

Following the running of this event B. Pengelly was stood down by the Club’s doctor and replaced as per the Stewards’ Race Day Summary.


Race 4: Seppelt Wines P.J. O’Shea Group 2 Stakes - 2200m
1st – Scenic Shot 2nd – Mirkola Lass 3rd – Fulmonti 4th - Rabbuka

FAST FUTURE (M. Cahill) and DOUG’S MATE (J. Byrne) both jumped away awkwardly and shortly after were tightened for room between SCENIC SHOT (S. Scriven) and STAND TALL (L. Cassidy), which shifted out.

REZONE (D. Browne) was slow to begin.

D. Oliver the rider of RAMPANT LION pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in passing the winning post on the first occasion when insufficiently clear of SCENIC SHOT (S. Scriven), resulting in that horse being taken in onto FAST FUTURE (M. Cahill), resulting in FAST FUTURE being severely crowded for room and losing its position. D. Oliver’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings to commence midnight 3 June 2009 and to expire midnight 14 June 2009.

LUVULEO (C. Small) raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
When the pace slackened near the 1000m IMVULA (K. McEvoy) and JUJULIO (C. Newitt) both overraced and when being restrained JUJULIO shifted out taking SCENIC SHOT wider on the track. VELOCE BELLA (O. Bosson) and STAND TALL which were following were inconvenienced as a consequence.

Approaching the 1000m SIR SLICK (G. Colless) shifted out off the heels of LUVULEO taking RAMPANT LION (D. Oliver) wider on the track. RAMPANT LION then elected to improve forward to a position outside the leader.


Race 5: Schweppes Sires’ Produce Group 2 2YO Stakes - 1400m
1st – Shoot Out 2nd – Impulsive Dream 3rd – Carrara 4th – Funtantes

As B. Stewart was overweight stewards permitted C. Newitt to be substituted as the rider of IRISH DREAM. B. Stewart was fined the sum of $300.00.

IRISH DREAM (C. Newitt) was slow to begin.

LINKY DINK (C. Williams) and TAKE THIS WALTZ (H. Bowman) came together on jumping away.

IMPULSIVE DREAM (C. Reith) and

Leaving the 1300m SHOOT OUT (D. Griffin) which was inclined to race greenly, shifted out and struck the hind quarters of CAPTAIN SONADOR (App B. Evans).

D. Griffin the rider of SHOOT OUT was fined the sum of $400.00 under the provisions of AR137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to his mount passing the winning post.

A post race veterinary examination of GOVERNANCE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

A post race veterinary examination of TAKE THIS WALTZ failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Following the running of this even G. Colless was stood down by the Club’s doctor and replaced as per the Stewards’ Race Day Summary.


Race 6: Conrad Treasury Queensland Group 1 3YO Fillies Oaks - 2400m
1st – Purple 2nd – Nothin’ Leica Cat 3rd – Walk In The Park 4th – Lacada Siren

NOTHIN’ LEICA CAT (D. Oliver) and RIVER PERFUME (J. Taylor) were both slow to begin.

Near the 1900m RETURNTOSENDER (L. Nolen) improved onto the heels of A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE (B. Payne) and had to be steadied. EKSTREME (O. Bosson) which was following also had to be restrained and shifted out taking GRACESYND (App A. Taylor) onto AWESOME PLANET (J. Cassidy).

Near the 800m EKSTREME improved up onto the heels of RETURNTOSENDER and had to be checked.

Near the 600m JUICE (M. Rodd) shifted out around the heels of LA BELLA LUISA (D. Griffin) to improve resulting in the tiring A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE having to be checked when tightened between JUICE and CAN’T KEEPER DOWN (C. Brown).

At the 500m EKSTREME shifted out to improve resulting in the tiring A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE having to be steadied.

Leaving the 500m THINK MONEY (M. Cahill) shifted out of its own accord and as a result had to be steadied from the heels of JUICE.

Approaching the 400m NOTHIN’ LEICA CAT (D. Oliver) shifted out to improve resulting in LA BELLA LUISA having to be steadied. JUICE which was following was also inconvenienced as a consequence. At the same stage CAN’T KEEPER DOWN shifted out and away from NOTHIN’ LEICA CAT resulting in RETURNTOSENDER having to be steadied from the heels of CAN’T KEEPER DOWN.

CAN’T KEEPER DOWN and SEESAWING (S. Scriven) raced wide for the majority of the event.

When questioned regarding the tactics employed on AWESOME PLANET jockey J. Cassidy explained to stewards that he had intended to have the filly in a forward position however, he was unable to muster sufficient speed from the wide barrier and was subsequently caught extremely wide in the run to the first turn. J. Cassidy added that on the first turn GRACESYND, which was racing to the inside shifted out taking AWESOME PLANET wider again on the track. J. Cassidy explained that as a result he had no option but to restrain the filly to a rearward position. J. Cassidy further added that near the 1000m he had considered following DESIRE TO WIN (C. Newitt) however, DESIRE TO WIN was not travelling well at that stage and therefore remained closer to the fence. Trainer G. Rogerson stated that in his opinion J. Cassidy had no other option than to employ the tactics he had on this occasion from the wide barrier. He further added that in his opinion AWESOME PLANET was not entirely comfortable on the rain affected surface.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of EKSTREME jockey O. Bosson stated that the filly overraced in the early stages and settled well midfield however, the horse lost momentum when having to be checked off the heels of RETURNTOSENDER leaving the 800m. He added the horse from that point only finished the race off fairly.

A post race veterinary examination of JUICE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.


Race 7: TCL Electronics QTC Cup Group 2 Quality H’Cap - 1300m
1st – Ortensia 2nd – Maxisun 3rd – Mr Baritone 4th – Charming Rogue

Stewards acceded to a request by C. Brown to ride DOUBLE DARE a half a kilo overweight as there was no rider available to ride at the weight. As C. Brown pleaded guilty to contravening AR120(b) in that he was unable to ride CENTOVER (Race 2) and DOUBLE DARE at the weight he was fined the sum of $500.00

RIGHTSON (App C. Grylls) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

EL CAMBIO (K. McEvoy), MITANNI (L.Nolen) and PYRAMIDS (M. Palmer) all raced wide for the majority.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey B. El-Issa regarding the tactics employed on MAXISUN today as compared to its most recent start where it was positioned towards the rear of the field. B. El-Issa stated that from the inside barrier MAXISUN began very well and he felt his best option was to take advantage of the inside barrier and position the horse just behind the leaders. Trainer T. Vasil explained that the horse was stepping up in distance to 1300m around a bigger track and he felt this was the reason for the horse taking up a more prominent position. Their explanations were noted.


Race 8: Patinack Farm Dane Ripper Group 3 Fillies & Mares Stakes - 1400m
1st – Chinchilla Rose 2nd – Bird Of Fire 3rd – Jacqueline Rouge 4th – Russeting

Trainer J. O’Shea was fined the sum of $100.00 for presenting ESPURANTE with the incorrect gear.

CHINCHILLA ROSE (C. Williams) was slow to begin.

BIRD OF FIRE (N. Rawiller) overraced in the early stages.

Near the 1000m TIPSY PIGGY (J. Taylor) commenced to race ungenerously and when being restrained shifted out making contact with ESPURANTE (H. Bowman).

A post race veterinary examination of SATSANG revealed the mare to be slightly lame in the near fore leg. Trainer H. Page will be advised a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to SATSANG racing again.

COURT (J. Byrne), ESPURANTE and HAIRY (K. O’Hara) all raced wide for the majority of the event.

B. Shinn was questioned regarding the disappointing performance of BELONG TO MANY. B. Shinn stated that the horse travelled well and enjoyed a nice run however, failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion performed very disappointingly.

A post race veterinary examination of COURT revealed the filly to be lame in the off fore leg. Trainer C. Conners will be advised a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced prior to COURT racing again.
