Race 1: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL SIR DOUGLAS WADLEY PLATE - 1200m
1st – Kiss Me Katy 2nd – Dual Chamber 3rd – Lagerphone 4th – Miss Breanna

Trainer T. Murphy was fined $100 under AR. 59A for failing to produce the Document of Description for MADEITTOTHEMOON. MADEITTOTHEMOON was inspected from papers provided by Queensland Racing and permitted to start.

FAIRCHILD jumped away awkwardly.

OUR DREAMING and RUTH’S SECRET were tightened for room on jumping away between BRUJITA, which shifted out, and LAGERPHONE, which shifted in slightly.

MADEITTOTHEMOON, MANHATTAN ANGEL and RUTH’S SECRET raced wide throughout.

Approaching and rounding the home turn both BRUJITA and DANEREADY were inclined to get their head on the side and lay out.

In the early part of the straight MADEITTOTHEMOON was inclined to get its head on the side and lay in.

Near the 600m FAIRCHILD became unbalanced when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BRUJITA.

H. Bowman (LAGERPHONE) explained that the horse left the gates nicely, went forward but was unable to maintain early speed. He said that he would have liked to have maintained a position inside MADEITTOTHEMOON in the middle stages but was unable to do so and allowed that horse to cross him. He said, however, that shortly after this MADEITTOTHEMOON shifted out and he then had to shift back in to go forward. He said in his opinion LAGERPHONE handled the track conditions today but is immature, having only its third race start today.

Race 2: XXXX GOLD PHIL SULLIVAN H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Bareena 2nd – Go Cart 3rd – Our Lukas 4th – Slick Sniper

HEY ELVIS jumped away very awkwardly and shifted in making contact with the hind quarters of SOILED.

GO CART was slow to begin.

RAGS TO RICHES and THE SPORTSMAN raced wide for the majority of the event.

L. Cassidy (OUR LUKAS) explained that he enjoyed a nice run in the race but just after straightening was disappointed for a run between SOILED, which shifted in, and RAGS TO RICHES, which shifted out. Because of this he had to steady and then wait for a run on the outside before going forward. He said that in his opinion OUR LUKAS is now looking for more ground.

C. Williams (SOILED) explained that he intended to ride the horse a little more quietly today than he did in its last run, however when settling SOILED it was inclined to get its head up and hang out. He went on to say that if he were to ride the horse again, he would probably be more aggressive on it.

M. Cahill (HEY ELVIS) explained the horse left the gates awkwardly but then was able to take up a position behind SOILED and travelled satisfactorily. He said, however, that at about the 300m, when put under full pressure, HEY ELVIS did not respond and was very disappointing. He went on to say that HEY ELVIS was not comfortable in today’s going but the horse had been expected to run well as it had been working well, and in his opinion the run was disappointing.

A post-race veterinary examination of HIGH CEE failed to reveal any abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of BORNINTHESTATES failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3: MYER QTC LIGHTNING H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Keano 2nd – Black Ink 3rd – News Alert 4th – Hail Free

NEWS ALERT jumped away awkwardly and faltered.

SEQUALLAN also jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start BLACK INK and DALZAR were crowded for room between SEQUABLUE and HAIL FREE (M. Palmer) which shifted in. In the circumstances no direct action was taken but M. Palmer was told he should exercise more care than this in future.

Near the 600m NEWS ALERT shifted in and momentarily tightened the running of FORESTRENO. As a result FORESTRENO shifted in making contact with HAIL FREE’s hind quarters. KEANO, which was racing back and to the inside of HAIL FREE, suffered minor inconvenience as a result.

Rounding the home turn STOLIT was inclined to lay in. Because of this M. Cahill had to change the whip into his right hand and for some distance after this STOLIT raced awkwardly when tight on the inside of BOCUSE and close to the heels of MARTINI RED.

C. Brown (KEANO) explained that not long after the start there was some crowding to his outside and rather than be involved in this he elected to press forward and accordingly the horse was closer to the lead than had been expected.

G. Boss (MARTINI RED) said that before the race the trainer had told him the horse had an awkward action. He said that he tested the horse out but in the straight when it felt ungenerous underneath him he decided it was in the best interests of all concerned to ease MARTINI RED down. He concluded by saying that the trainer told him after the race that MARTINI RED is now to be retired and go to stud.

NEWS ALERT lost its off fore plate in running.

Michael Lakey, the trainer of SEQUALLAN, was told that he must ensure in future his staff has runners of his prepared and in the mounting yard on time.

Race 4: RACETREE T.J. SMITH PLATE - 1600m
1st – Linky Dink 2nd – Spot On Target 3rd – Southport 4th – Choistar

G. Yorke, trainer of ONE LICKETY SPLIT, was fined $1,500 under AR. 140A for negligence in saddling. Mr Yorke had left the lead bag on a rail in the saddling area. This was noted when ONE LICKETY SPLIT was presented for the parade. The horse had to be reweighed and resaddled before proceeding to the start.

SARGE IN CHARGE jumped in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.

FUNTANTES jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

ONE LICKETY SPLIT and SHOOT OUT raced wide throughout.

C. Brown (GOVERNANCE) said that the horse started to pull early on and about the 900m commenced to hang out and after this hung out badly and got beyond his control and in the straight he eased GOVERNANCE down. Mr Paul Reid, stable foreman for Peter Snowden, trainer of GOVERNANCE, said that it is now the intention to spell the horse and he gave an assurance that before it runs again it will certainly trial. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than that it had cast its near fore plate.

D. Griffin (SHOOT OUT) explained that at no stage of the race did the horse handle today’s going and because of this did not run as expected. J. P. Wallace, trainer of SHOOT OUT, said that the horse had been working well during the week and he was confident it would run well. He said he did notice that SHOOT OUT was quieter than usual in the parade yard today and after the race he thought that it was possible SHOOT OUT did not back up. He also felt that the pace of the race did not suit SHOOT OUT, particularly when FUNTANTES did not lead as expected. Mr Wallace said that it is now his intention to spell SHOOT OUT. It was decided today that the explanations tendered by both Mr Wallace and jockey Griffin would be recorded.

L. Cassidy (FUNTANTES) said that his intention had been to lead but the horse left the gates awkwardly and got much further back than planned and was beaten with 300m to go and in his opinion FUNTANTES has had enough this preparation.

Race 5: AAMI STRADBROKE H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Black Piranha 2nd – Danleigh 3rd – Ortensia 4th – Mr Baritone

ABSOLUT GLAM left the gates awkwardly.

SWICK was slow away.

Just after the start ORTENSIA was momentarily crowded for room between SOMETHING ANYTHING and ROYAL DISCRETION, both of which shifted a little ground.

Near the 1000m MR SLICK bumped with MARASCO and then shifted out abruptly and got its head up when being checked off the heels of ABSOLUT GLAM. The occurrence was accidental.

About the 900m VOCALIC struck the running rail and was checked when crowded on the inside of MR BARITONE, which was taken in slightly by RIGHTFULLY YOURS (J. Byrne), which in turn was racing tight on the inside of SOLO FLYER (G. Schofield). The crowding to VOCALIC was quite severe, however the stewards did not believe complete responsibility could be attributed to either G. Schofield or J. Byrne and therefore took no direct action. However, they were both advised that if they were to ride in such a tight manner in future, it may lead to a breach of the rules and they must exercise more care.

After the race the veterinary surgeon examined RIGHTFULLY YOURS. He said the horse had been galloped on on its near hind leg and had lost a near fore plate. Also after the race he examined BANK ROBBER and reported that the horse was lame in its near hind leg. Before BANK ROBBER will be allowed to race again a satisfactory certificate of fitness will have to be produced.

After the race SNIPER’S BULLET was examined by the veterinary surgeon. He said that whilst he was unable to detect any obvious abnormalities, he did consider that the horse was not stepping out behind as it should.

Race 6: BMW QUEENSLAND DERBY PLATE - 2400m
1st – Court Ruler 2nd – Shocking 3rd – Larry’s Never Late 4th – Prix Du Sang

B. Stewart, the rider of ZA MAGIC, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of AWESOME PLANET, resulting in that horse being taken in on to OLD JOCK which in turn was taken in on to BID SPOTTER, which in turn was taken in on to THE GROGOCH. This resulted in severe crowding to those runners, and further resulted in MARKUS MAXIMUS, which was racing back and to the inside of THE GROGOCH, losing its position. B. Stewart’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Thursday, 11 June, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 24 June 2009.

L. Cassidy, the rider of COURT RULER, was charged with careless riding, the careless riding being that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SEESAWING, resulting in SEESAWING being taken in across the heels of MARKUS MAXIMUS, and being checked and losing its position. L. Cassidy pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him and submitted strong evidence to support his plea. After considering all the circumstances and the submissions L. Cassidy had made, the stewards could not be comfortably satisfied in finding him guilty and accordingly a not guilty finding was made. However, L. Cassidy was told that he must refrain from endeavouring to dictate the line of other runners at all times.

OLD JOCK raced wide in the early stages.

After the 800m significant crowding occurred. The worst sufferer was BID SPOTTER, which almost fell. It was established that at about this time OLD JOCK was giving ground quickly. As a consequence of this, MARKUS MAXIMUS had to be checked severely and shifted out to avoid its heels. This resulted in NOTHIN’ LEICA CAT being shifted abruptly on to BID SPOTTER which struck the heels of RESUME which shifted in slightly. Consequently, BID SPOTTER almost fell. The inconvenience to MARKUS MAXIMUS was influenced by THE GROGOCH, which shifted away slightly from OLD JOCK as it was giving ground. The crowding was of some significance and the interference to BID SPOTTER was severe, but the stewards were not in a position to attribute the interference caused to any rider or riders and accordingly took no direct action. It was though the main factor was the tiring OLD JOCK. When BID SPOTTER nearly fell after the 800m, it shifted out abruptly and bumped the hind quarters of SHOCKING.

Near the 500m BERLIOZ had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ZUPACOOL.

Near the 450m AWESOME PLANET had to be steadied when tightened for room between SEESAWING and COURT RULER, which shifted out to improve its position.

Near the 200m ZA MAGIC had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SEESAWING which shifted out and away from the tiring ROCKDALE.

G. Rogerson, trainer of AWESOME PLANET, advised stewards that in his opinion the filly did not back up well today and consequently her run was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of AWESOME PLANET failed to reveal any abnormalities.

After the race a number of runners were examined by the veterinary surgeon. He said he was unable to find any abnormalities with BID SPOTTER. He also examined OLD JOCK and could find nothing unusual.
RESUME was examined after the race. The veterinary surgeon said the horse had been galloped on on its off hind leg and after the race was in his opinion in an abnormally distressed condition.

J. Cassidy was stood down by the Club’s doctor after the race and was replaced by G. Boss on SCATTERGUN in Race 7.

Race 7: AUSTRALIAN SPECIAL METALS BRISBANE CUP - 2400m
1st – Scenic Shot 2nd – Ready To Lift 3rd – Tinsel Town 4th – Ballack

L. Nolen (REGGIE) said that the horse left the gates awkwardly and in the early stages got further out of its ground than had been his intention.

A post-race veterinary examination of STAND TALL revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer J. Wheeler was advised that he must produce a veterinary certificate of fitness and the results of an x-ray examination of the fetlocks.

Race 8: MITTY’S QUEENSLAND GUINEAS PLATE - 1600m
1st – Express Air 2nd – Marveen 3rd – La Etoile 4th – Ashlee’s Jewel

LAUAKI , YUMMY and MARVEEN jumped away awkwardly.

JAZZ HEART was tightened for room at the start between INFORMALITY and GEEZA which jumped away awkwardly. GEEZA was then inclined to lay out during the early stages.

BACI AMORE, BAUBLE and WEMBLEY raced wide throughout.

Over the concluding stages WEMBLEY was struck over the head by the whip of T. Treichel (LITTLE MEL)

After the race it was noted that INFORMALITY had lost its off hind plate.

A post-race veterinary examination of YOUTHFUL JACK revealed that the gelding was exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer A. Denham was advised that he must produce the results of an endoscopic examination before YOUTHFUL JACK is permitted to start.

A post-race veterinary examination of LEAPFROG failed to reveal any abnormalities.
