SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS
Jockey B. Pengelly was fined $500 after pleading guilty to a charge under LR. 85(b) in that he rode a horse at trackwork while unlicensed on Wednesday, 1 July 2009.
Race 1: BRC THE BEGINNING H’CAP - 1800m
1st – Crossthestart 2nd – Shuffle The Cash 3rd – Malandrina 4th – The Grogoch
Apprentice B. Evans was fined $400 after pleading guilty to a charge under AR. 92(12) in that he failed to claim his full allowance on THE GROGOCH.
THE GROGOCH raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 400m BUGSYTWOSHOES shifted out in an endeavour to improve its position and in doing so made contact with NONSENSICAL.
S. Galloway, the rider of RAINCOAT, reported that the horse raced on its wrong leg from the 900m and whilst RAINCOAT switched to its correct leg before the home turn, this tendency had allowed CROSSTHESTART to improve around him, resulting in him being held up in the early stages of the straight to the inside of CROSSTHESTART. S. Galloway added that the horse, once clear, finished the race off well.
When questioned regarding the performance of HUNTERS MOON, G. Colless stated that due to the horse being one-paced he had improved his position before the home corner, however it was under pressure shortly after entering the straight and in his opinion proved disappointing. G. Colless added that he had recommended to connections that the horse be restricted to distances up to a mile. A post-race veterinary examination of HUNTERS MOON revealed that the gelding had sustained minor lacerations to both hind legs.
A post-race veterinary examination of LA ZEEL failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 2: PLAY, GATHER, COMPETE, BELONG QTIS H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Savoia 2nd – Captain Sonador 3rd – Freton 4th – Man Of Oar
CORONER, which reared and became cast in the barriers, was declared a late scratching at 12.28 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. SANDWOOD and HALLMARK STAR, which were drawn in the adjoining stalls, were also examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. On the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on CORONER be refunded with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 4 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets to apply. Trainer T. Hall will be interviewed in regard to the barrier manners of CORONER.
P. Messara, trainer of SAVOIA, which proved difficult to load, advised stewards that he was sending the filly for a spell and undertook to trial SAVOIA before resuming racing. In consideration of this undertaking, stewards did not place any embargo on SAVOIA.
PANNINGEN and FAST LOVER were slow to begin.
Approaching the 1000m MAN OF OAR improved up on to the heels of SANDWOOD and when being restrained shifted in hampering DORSODURO, which was racing ungenerously.
ROUGH DANCE overraced in the early and middle stages.
SANDWOOD raced wide for the majority of the event.
B. Stewart, the rider of DORSODURO, dropped his whip near the 100m.
SAVOIA lost its off hind plate in running.
Post-race veterinary examinations of OUR MR CASHMAN and DEUX CHEVAUX failed to reveal any abnormalities.
As S. Galloway was stood down from his remaining engagements by the Club’s doctor, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Due to S. Galloway’s recent history of failing to fulfil his engagements at various race meetings due to illness, stewards ordered that S. Galloway undergo a full medical examination in accordance with AR 81(f)(2). A 54 kilogram minimum weight embargo was also placed on S. Galloway until 1 August 2009.
Race 3: BRC.COM.AU QTIS H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Lifebuoy 2nd – Frozone 3rd – Little Mel 4th – Gundy Son
An inquiry into the reason why A. Pattillo was dually engaged was adjourned to enable trainer T. Gollan to be interviewed.
DAMASHQUI, which was slow to begin, struck the heels of LIFEBUOY shortly after the start and blundered.
TIKIT TO GLORY jumped out at the start making contact with ROTHERA.
HOW MUCH MY LOVE was tightened for room at the start between JUST HILDA and MANY TALENTS.
FROZONE hung in when placed under pressure in the straight and near the 200m shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of ROTHERA.
Near the 350m MYSTICAL KNIGHT had to be steadied when tightened for room between JUST HILDA and LIFEBUOY which shifted in.
MYSTICAL KNIGHT hung in under pressure in the straight.
Stewards questioned M. Cahill, rider of HOW MUCH MY LOVE, in regard to the tactics employed today, in particular the reason for the gelding racing in a more rearward position than it had in its previous past starts. M. Cahill explained that the horse was coming back from 1600m and the blinkers had been removed and on previous occasions the horse had a tendency to overrace. Trainer D. Williams stated that previously whilst the horse had positioned closer, it had not been intended as the horse was racing in smaller fields and raced fiercely with the blinkers on on this occasion. He added that the horse was up in class and was back in distance. The explanation was noted.
A post-race veterinary examination of TRUE TALES failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 4: KIDS’ GIDDY UP CLUB H’CAP - 1500m
1st – Plenty Of Practise 2nd – Majorca 3rd – Morgalicious 4th – Kisani
Trainer B. Court was reprimanded for failing to declare B. Evans as the rider of CHARLOTTE COURTNEY by the prescribed time.
Trainer D. Williams was fined $100 for presenting SAMTHEFLIRT to race with incorrect gear.
Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for B. Evans being dislodged from CHARLOTTE COURTNEY shortly after the start. After taking evidence from B. Evans and trainer B. Court, stewards were unable to ascertain whether the horse actually blundered or attempted to buck and accordingly the horse was declared ineligible to race until it trials to the satisfaction of stewards. B. Evans was examined by the Club’s doctor and passed fit to fulfil his remaining engagements.
SAMTHEFLIRT, DELL AMBY and MAJORCA were slow to begin.
Near the 800m INTHEBLACK, which commenced to overrace, improved up on to the heels of TEDDY BARE and when being restrained shifted out.
CERTAIN MAGIC raced three wide throughout.
Race 5: BRISBANE TOWN PLATE - 1400m
1st – Perchance 2nd – Alberton Park 3rd – Sir Mossman 4th – Bullion Bay
Trainer D. Bougoure was reprimanded for failing to declare A. Pattillo as the rider of NOTHING COMPARES by the prescribed time.
SOCIAL CAT and SUGAR CUBE were both slow to begin.
TROUBLED, AMERICAN GANGSTER and IDDI were tightened for room on jumping away between ALTISSIMO and KENTON which shifted out.
REVE D’OR, NAMSARAI, BULLION BAY, PERCHANCE, SACRISTA and MOONLIGHT HUSSEY raced wide for the majority of the event.
Passing the 400m TROUBLED attempted to shift out from behind the heels of REVE D’OR to improve and made contact with NAMSARAI.
A post-race veterinary examination of NAMSARAI failed to reveal any abnormalities at the time of inspection.
Race 6: SILVER CHEF LTD H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Mr Aristos 2nd – Pub Torque 3rd – Morning Colours 4th – Kelly
EQUATES jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
HEART OF THE CITI was tightened for room on jumping away between SHAKEVA and GENERAL PATTON which shifted out.
PUB TORQUE and MORNING COLOURS were slow to begin.
SIR BREAKFAST raced wide throughout.
J. Bowditch, rider of MORNING COLOURS, reported that upon entering the straight he endeavoured to move his horse wider on the track, however due to BORSHA’S WARRIOR being positioned to his outside he was unable to do so and as an alternative followed MR ARISTOS forward into the race. J. Bowditch explained that a short distance into the straight MR ARISTOS had shifted out presenting a run to its inside, however MORNING COLOURS was hesitant in taking that run. J. Bowditch added that once afforded clear running MORNING COLOURS finished the race off well and added that he had to steady the horse near the finishing line as a result of MR ARISTOS shifting in.
Race 7: MORETON HIRE ASCOT H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Battlefield 2nd – Wasted Emotions 3rd – Mitanni 4th – Tellasecret
BURGEIS and SEQUESTRATE were tightened on jumping away between DANZYLUM and FLAMING, which was taken out by MITANNI.
Near the 1000m BURGEIS improved up on to the heels of BATTLEFIELD and when being restrained shifted out taking SEQUESTRATE wider on the track. BURGEIS then overraced for some distance thereafter.
ZILZIE raced wide throughout.
BATTLEFIELD hung in in the straight when placed under pressure, placing its rider at a distinct disadvantage.
FORESTRENO lost its near hind plate in running.
Race 8: IPG PRINT QUEENSLAND CUP - 3200m
1st – Cape Breton 2nd – Petushki 3rd – Kerdem 4th – Alexander Of Hales
ANGINA raced wide until reaching the winning post on the first occasion.
Trainer J. Wheeler’s stable representative was advised that I’M ISAAC, which bled, will incur a mandatory three-month ban from racing under AR. 53A(4).
When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of PHAZE ACTION, Jockey D Browne stated that PHAZE ACTION over raced in the early and middle stages of the race due to the slow tempo. D Brown further stated that when he placed his mount under pressure leaving the 600m, the horse failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion proved disappointing. D Browne added that PHAZE ACTION may not have backed up from a tough run on a heavy track in the Caloundra Cup. Stewards noted his explanation. A post-race veterinary examination of PHAZE ACTION failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The veterinary surgeon reported that ALEXANDER OF HALES pulled up distressed.
The veterinary surgeon reported that ANGINA had been galloped on on the near hind leg.
Following the running of this race the Club’s doctor stood apprentice D. Ganderton down from his remaining ride at today’s meeting.
Race 9: BUPA CARE SERVICES PLATE - 1200m
1st – Eire Of Magic 2nd – Mohawk 3rd – Black Morgan 4th – Firedrake
FELINE HUNTER was a late scratching at 4.27 p.m. when no rider was available. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on FELINE HUNTER be refunded with deductions of 10 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place tickets to apply.
MOHAWK, RAPID BABE and NOTRE AMOUR were tightened for room on jumping away between EIRE OF MAGIC and RELEASE ME, which jumped out.
A short distance after the start EIRE OF MAGIC and NOTRE AMOUR had to be steadied when tightened for room between RAPID BABE and FIREDRAKE, which laid in away from COME SAID THE BOY.
Approaching the 1100m RELEASE ME, which had commenced to race ungenerously, had to be steadied from the heels of LADY SHOWHEART when that horse was taken in by RAPID BABE.
RAPID BABE, FIREDRAKE and LADY SHOWHEART raced wide for the majority of the event.
Leaving the 1000m OVERANXIOUS, which was overracing, shifted out and had to be checked off the heels of MOHAWK, which had been momentarily tightened by COME SAID THE BOY.
Near the 200m PAYMORE had to be checked when tightened for room between RELEASE ME, which shifted out slightly, and COME SAID THE BOY, which was taken in by THREE SWALLOWS, which shifted in and away from MOHAWK after being initially taken in by that horse. In the circumstances stewards took no further action.
The veterinary surgeon reported that COME SAID THE BOY was exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise following the event. Trainer P. Nolan was advised that he must produce the results of an endoscopic examination before the horse’s next start.
