Supplementary Report

From QTC, 5.9.09
Trainer K. Wood informed stewards that after competing at the above meeting, ZERO ROCK suffered grazing and swelling from bruising to the right side knee which may have occurred as a result of the horse jumping away awkwardly.

As G. Colless and S. Galloway were indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1: Ormiston College Board of Directors Class 6 H'cap - 1600m
1st – Kentish Rose 2nd – Puccini 3rd – Papal Joy 4th – The Cavern Club

OUR HEART (J. Taylor) jumped away awkwardly and missed the start.

Near the 1200m, TURN AND BURN (A. Erhart), which was overracing, improved onto the heels of PIT LANE (S. Katsidis) and then shifted out across the heels of KENTISH ROSE (L. Cassidy), forcing KHAIRESPRIT (C. Reith) wider on the track.

Passing the 1000m, KHAIRESPRIT shifted back to assume a position one wide, and RISEUPSINGING had to be steadied to avoid heels at that stage.

Near the 250m, THE CAVERN CLUB (C. McIver) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of KENTISH ROSE (L. Cassidy), which shifted in when not fully clear. L. Cassidy, rider of KENTISH ROSE, was severely reprimanded.

PAPAL JOY (M. Cahill) was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

Race 2: Rohig Constructions Open H'cap - 1400m
1st – Heart Of The Citi 2nd – Pertinence 3rd – Sneaky Long 4th – Show Destiny

SNEAKY LONG (L. Rolls) blundered on jumping away.

Passing the 1200m, SOMMERSEA DRIVE (M. Hughes) got its head up and was inclined to overrace.

When questioned regarding the performance of BUZZY HENRY, A. Pattillo stated that he elected to position the horse behind SOMMERSEA DRIVE shortly after the start and when positioning the horse it got its head up, however from that point onwards, BUZZY HENRY seemed to travel well until straightening. He added that when asked for an effort the horse did not respond to his riding, not finishing the race off as expected. A. Pattillo also felt that the horse may be better suited being stepped up in distance. Trainer P. Duff stated that he had added blinkers for today’s race, however he could not offer any explanation for the horse’s performance today. Mr Duff undertook to report to stewards any abnormality that becomes apparent which may have had a bearing on today’s performance.

Race 3: Starters & Stayers Syndicate Open H'cap - 2200m
1st – Attallus 2nd – Jujulio 3rd – Chilled 4th – Uncle Jan

Rounding the first turn, CHILLED (S. Katsidis) was inclined to lay out.

Passing the 1800m, CHILLED shifted towards the rail and CLAVILLO (C. McIver) had to be steadied.

For some distance near the 1400m, CLAVILLO was inclined to overrace at the heels of CHILLED.

Near the 1300m when the pace slowed, UNCLE JAN (M. Hellyer) shifted out off the heels of YEILD CURVE (L. Cassidy). JUJULIO (C. Reith) then improved to the inside of UNCLE JAN and when UNCLE JAN shifted back slightly, JUJULIO had to be steadied and shifted in, tightening ATTALLUS.

ATTALLUS was inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.

CLAVILLO bled during the event. Trainer R. Dodd will be advised that the horse will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

Stewards questioned trainer R. Heathcote and apprentice O. Turpin in relation to the disappointing performance of BELL ACADEMY, which did not finish the race off as expected. O. Turpin stated that the horse had travelled well and as the tempo of the race had been reasonable he elected to go forward from the 600m, however BELL ACADEMY was under pressure on straightening and did not finish the race off. Trainer R. Heathcote agreed that the horse was disappointing, adding that he had instructed O. Turpin to ride BELL ACADEMY back in the field, as is its normal pattern, and did indicate to him that if the pace did slow he had the option to go forward, as the horse did at its previous start when a winner at Doomben. When questioned as to this aspect, O. Turpin stated that when the pace did slow in the middle stages he noticed that UNCLE JAN had proceeded forward and as he felt that horse would improve the tempo he elected to remain at the tail of the field. Trainer R. Heathcote advised stewards he intended to have pathology tests carried out and should there be any abnormality he would notify stewards. A post race veterinary examination of BELL ACADEMY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 4: Hanrickcurran F&M NMW H'cap - 1400m
1st – Fasliyev Dancer 2nd –Lucky Toss 3rd – Deltarara 4th – Perri Lou

BEAUTIFUL (C. Reith) jumped inwards at the start and brushed SWISS ALPS (M. Hellyer).

PEACEFUL BELLE (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly and brushed CALM BEFORE (C. McIver).

PEACEFUL BELLE was caught 3 wide on the first turn and was obliged to race 3 wide for the entire race.

CALM BEFORE also raced 3 wide for the entire race.

BRILLIANT CON hung out in the middle stages and compounded and finished some distance from the bulk of the field. Trainer P. Facoory’s representative was advised to inform the trainer not to nominate the horse in the metropolitan area until satisfied it will perform up to the required standard.

L. Cassidy reported that near the 300m PEACEFUL BELLE appeared to blunder and he felt there may have been something amiss and he eased up on the horse from the 200m to the finish. A post race veterinary examination of PEACEFUL BELLE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities at the time of examination.

Race 5: The Brand + Slater CG&E NMW H'cap - 1400m
1st – Bringelly 2nd – Mystic Vibe 3rd – Bernardo 4th – Justin Case

BRADFIELD (C. Reith) and HAVERFORD (C. McIver) were tightened for room on jumping away between KEN AND KIM (J. Taylor), which shifted out, and RED FERMENTS (M. Hughes), which shifted in.

When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of SHUDULE GEE, S Katsidis stated that after being crossed by DEMONSTRATOR near the 1200m, the gelding then commenced to pull fiercely. He added that near the 800m SHUDULE GEE overraced at the heels of DEMONSTRATOR, and as a result of overracing, he felt this had an effect on the gelding not finishing the race off today. S. Katsidis further stated that on straightening his mount was under pressure and when tiring in the straight, it was inclined to lay in. He indicated that at no stage did SHUDULE GEE seem relaxed and he felt that this had had an effect on its performance. Trainer’s representative Mr T. Duckett could offer no explanation other than the fact that the horse had overraced, and he informed stewards that trainer Mr J. Wallace would notify stewards of anything that comes to light in the days following the race which may have had a bearing on the performance today.

KEN AND KIM was obliged to race wide throughout.

Race 6: Ormiston College QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1200m
1st – Femina Fashion 2nd – Facile Tigre 3rd – Redbolt 4th – Emma’s Heart

As P. Hammersley was to be overweight, D. Craven was substituted as the rider of SEQUASTAIRE. P. Hammersley was fined $100.

SNIPLAZ (C. McIver) jumped away awkwardly and missed the start.

FACILE TIGRE (L. Rolls) jumped inwards at the start, forcing BENEFACTION (S. Seamer) in on to SEQUASTAIRE (D. Craven).

Approaching the 300m, EMMA’S HEART (S. Katsidis) shifted out from behind the heels of CAPTAIN CLAYTON (M. Cahill) to improve and the horse made heavy contact with SNIPLAZ, causing it to become unbalanced. S. Katsidis was instructed to exercise greater care when shifting ground

CAPTAIN CLAYTON (M. Cahill), SNIPLAZ and SEQUASTAIRE all raced wide throughout.

When questioned as to the seemingly disappointing performance of SNIPLAZ, C. McIver stated that whilst the horse was obliged to race wide, he felt as though it may have jarred up on the surface today and he felt that the horse’s best form has been on tracks which had been rain affected.

A post race veterinary examination of FACILE TIGRE revealed the gelding to be suffering from metabolic heat syndrome.

Race 7: Morton Steel 1 MW Last Year H'cap - 1000m
1st – Sectagonal 2nd – Pelltro/Monashee 4th – Falco Star

MONASHEE KNIGHT (S. Katsidis) was slow to begin.

KELLY (S. Seamer) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with CARDIO (M. Hellyer). KELLY then shifted out, forcing CARDIO out on to MEET GEORGE (P. Hammersley).

Shortly after the start, MYNDOS (B. Pengelly) had to be checked when tightened for room between RUBIC (B. El-Issa), which shifted in slightly, and MEET GEORGE, which was taken out slightly by CARDIO, which in turn was taken out by KELLY (S. Seamer) which jumped awkwardly.

Near the 700m, UPILIO (C. McIver), when taking a trail behind SECTAGONAL (L. Rolls), shifted out from behind its heels, making contact with PRESLEY (M. Cahill), forcing it out on to PELLTRO (D. Browne), which also shifted out on to KELLY, which had to be steadied.

UPILIO was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.

MYNDOS was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight, and also near the 100m had to be steadied when it improved on to the heels of PRESLEY.

KELLY raced 4 wide for the majority of the event.

Race 8: Ormiston College Old Collegians Class 6 4yo & UP H'cap - 1200m
1st – Blue Jupiter 2nd – Hesashow 3rd – Mazuka 4th – Eripsni

SLUGSBROTHERNEGGET (B. El-Issa) was slow to begin.

ANOTHER TAKEOVER (L. Rolls), CITIWYSE (O. Turpin), MR HEARTBREAKER (L. Cassidy) were all caught wide on the first turn and obliged to race wide for the majority of the event.

After leaving the 900m, HIS BOY ELROY (D. Craven) commenced to hang out and the horse continued to do so and near the 700m the horse proved difficult to control due to its tendency to shift on to the heels of ERIPSNI (R. Wiggins).

O. Turpin reported that CITIWYSE, which raced without cover, was inclined to hang out particularly in the middle stages and it wasn’t until straightening that the horse raced tractably, and finished the race off well.

Near the finish line, BLUE JUPITER, after initially being cramped by HESASHOW (A. Pattillo), shifted out and brushed HESASHOW.

Stewards will interview trainer J. Wallace at a later date concerning the racing manners of HIS BOY ELROY.
