Race 1: Childhood Cancer Support Open H'cap - 2200m
1st – Tabulate 2nd – Encosta Tszyu 3rd – Yield Curve 4th - Slepner
Correct weight was delayed to allow apprentice T. Bell, rider of the 3rd placegetter YIELD CURVE, the opportunity to view the stewards’ patrol footage in the home straight to ascertain if he had grounds to protest against ENCOSTA TSZYU (B. El-Issa) being declared 2nd alleging interference in the straight. After viewing the footage, apprentice Bell did not wish to proceed with the protest and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings. Subsequently, it was established passing the 300m, ENCOSTA TSZYU shifted in, which resulted in YIELD CURVE being momentarily tightened for room. B. El-Issa, rider of ENCOSTA TSZYU, was advised of his obligations to be fully clear before shifting ground in future.
Approaching the 700m, ENCOSTA TSZYU shifted out to improve around the heels of YIELD CURVE (T. Bell), which resulted in TABULATE (J. Byrne) being taken wider on the track.
Stewards sought an explanation from rider M. Speers and trainer R. Heathcote in respect to the tactics employed on ON THE UP today. Trainer R. Heathcote indicated he had not issued any strict instructions on how to ride the gelding however advised M. Speers if the pace was excessively slow he should attempt to take up a forward position. M. Speers explained that he was of the opinion after studying the form on the race that he would be positioned in the first 4 on settling. He added that ON THE UP began well today and as it appeared that he may have been able to secure the lead, he urged the horse forward in the early stages in order to do so. M. Speers further stated that, in his opinion, he controlled the lead at a pace that afforded ON THE UP every opportunity to finish the race off over the concluding stages. Bearing in mind the sectional times during the race, stewards accepted the explanations tendered. A post race veterinary examination of ON THE UP revealed the gelding to be showing a harshness in its respiration. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that he must provide the results of an endoscopic examination on ON THE UP, and a veterinary clearance would also be required prior to its next race start.
Stewards sought an explanation from jockey L. Cassidy and trainer R. Heathcote in respect to the poor performance of EUREKA. L. Cassidy stated that the horse travelled satisfactorily during the race, however it was under pressure prior to the home turn and failed to respond to his riding thereafter. Trainer R. Heathcote advised stewards that he was again disappointed with the performance of the gelding and would give serious consideration to spelling the gelding. A post race veterinary examination of EUREKA failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
When questioned regarding the performance of IVY’S LEAGUE, C. Munce explained that he was able to settle in a forward position due to the slow tempo in the early and middle stages, however when he commenced to ride that gelding along after leaving the 500m, IVY’S LEAGUE did not quicken as he had expected and, in his opinion, was disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of IVY’S LEAGUE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

In the home straight, CICARELLI (T. Bell) was unable to obtain clear running behind the heels of GENERAL SECRETARY (M. Cahill) and as a result CICARELLI went to the line not fully tested.
PLENTY OF PRACTISE, BEYONCE’S STAR and BLUCHELLE (M. Speers) all raced wide throughout.
Race 3: Mirvac Hotels & Resorts QTIS 600 2yo H'cap - 1400m
1st – Hidden Kisses 2nd – Hour Of Peril 3rd – Stephen Got Even 4th – Top Brass

BRADBURY’S FORTUNE (M. Radecker), IN A TANGLE (M. Hellyer) and TRUE BLUE ANGEL (G. Lynch) and AESSEX (K. Wharton) all overraced in the early stages.
Approaching the 1000m, TRUE BLUE ANGEL, when overracing, had to be steadied off the heels of IN A TANGLE, which shifted out slightly. AESSEX, which was following and also overracing, had to be checked to avoid the heels of TRUE BLUE ANGEL.
AFRICAN MAMA (M. Palmer) raced greenly in the middle stages, and for some distance after passing the 800m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of HEAVENS OWN (T. Bell).
Near the 700m, EMERALD ISLE (J. Wood), which was overracing, had to be checked to avoid the heels of CASTLE EXPRESS (J. Byrne). This resulted in HIDDEN KISSES (L. Cassidy), which was trailing, also having to be eased.
Near the 200m, EMERALD ISLE, when attempting to take a narrow run between CASTLE EXPRESS and TOP BRASS, had to be checked when TOP BRASS was taken out by HIDDEN KISSES, which shifted out around the heels of STEPHEN GOT EVEN (J. Taylor) to obtain clear running. L. Cassidy, rider of HIDDEN KISSES, issued with a reprimand and advised to take greater care when shifting out in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 100m, J. Taylor, rider of STEPHEN GOT EVEN, dropped his whip.
BRADBURY’S FORTUNE, HEAVENS OWN (T. Bell) and AFRICAN MAMA (M. Palmer) raced wide throughout.
M. Cahill, rider of HUBERT, reported that whilst he was instructed to ride HUBERT from a midfield or rearward position, he was trapped wide early and was obliged to press forward to the leading position in order to assume a position closer to the rail.
Apprentice T. Bell was questioned regarding the performance of HEAVENS OWN, which weakened badly in the home straight. He explained that although he was obliged to race wide until approaching the home turn, when he placed the filly under pressure, HEAVENS OWN immediately lost ground and, in his opinion, may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination of HEAVENS OWN failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 4: Harcourts Inner West E&G 4yo & Up Class 6 H'cap – 1200m
1st – Poor Judge 2nd – Craiglea Falcon 3rd – Kyros 4th – Cornwall Park
NEW JOURNEY (J. Taylor) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, resulting in ONE EYED (O. Turpin) and CORNWALL PARK (J. Bowditch) both being hampered.
PLEASURE TIME (M. Speers) also shifted out at the start and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of POOR JUDGE (C. Munce). PLEASURE TIME was then taken in by POOR JUDGE and tightened for room.
NEW JOURNEY overraced in the early stages.
POOR JUDGE raced wide throughout.
J. Bowditch, rider of CORNWALL PARK, reported that as he was aware the gelding wears a butterfly bit he allowed the horse extra rein at the start. However despite this CORNWALL PARK threw its head in the air on jumping away and lost some ground, and then was further tightened for room between PLEASURE TIME and ONE EYED (O. Turpin). J. Bowditch added that as a result, he was obliged to take up a more rearward position than he would have liked, and he was of the opinion that if he had been able to position the horse in its customary handy position, the gelding may have won the race.
Race 5: Treasure Brisbane 1mw H'cap - 1400m
1st – Citiwyse 2nd – Smart Punch 3rd – Agnes Dream 4th – Bann Ruby
EDDIE RAPIDO (J. Bowditch) was slow to begin.

Passing the 300m, BRINGELLY shifted out around the heels of THREE CHANCES (J. Taylor), which was weakening, and bumped heavily with FLOOD HERO, which was taken out on to SIR ROSELAND (C. McIver), which was also hampered. Both G. Lynch, rider of FLOOD HERO, and C. McIver, rider of SIR ROSELAND, became unbalanced in this incident. When assessing this matter, stewards were of the view that BRINGELLY became awkward on the heels of THREE CHANCES prior to shifting ground and that movement outwards was to prevent the likelihood of clipping the heels of THREE CHANCES. In the circumstances, no direct action was taken.
Near the 100m, MILLERS WHEEL (T. Lovelock-Wiggins) had to be checked when tightened for room between MAURIES PICK (M. Hellyer), which initially shifted in, and MYSTIC VIBE, which was taken out by BANN RUBY (J. Stanley), which shifted out to obtain clear running. J. Stanley, rider of BANN RUBY, was reprimanded and advised to be fully clear when shifting ground.
Apprentice T. Bell was questioned regarding the riding tactics employed on PERTINENCE today in being was ridden forward to the lead near the 1000m, which was in contrast to its normal racing pattern. T. Bell explained that after beginning well rather than restraining the mare, he elected to press forward and take PERTINENCE to the lead.
Race 6: R & C Williams 1mw Mater Dei H'cap - 1000m
1st – Growsir 2nd – Mazuka 3rd – Tonkatsu 4th – Spanish Fling
MAZUKA (T. Bell) was held up when unable to obtain clear running in the straight until near 200m, where MAZUKA shifted in abruptly in order to improve and brushed BORSHA’S WARRIOR (J. Stanley).
C. Munce, ride of ULLADULLA, was questioned regarding the performance of that gelding. He explained that ULLADULLA was held up in the early part of the straight, however after securing clear running approaching the 300m, ULADULLA failed to respond to his riding from that point and proved disappointing.
When questioned regarding the performance of BORSHA’S WARRIOR, J. Stanley explained that after being briefly tightened for room near the 200m, the gelding failed to finish the race off as expected. He added that, in his opinion, BORSHA’S WARRIOR may be better suited over 1200m where the gelding would be able to lead and dictate the speed of the race.

GLACIAL MISS and DIRTY MARTINI (M. Palmer) both overraced in the early stages.
When struck with the whip near the 250m, GEBLITZT (T. Lovelock-Wiggins) shifted in and made contact with the running rail.

GENERAL
An inquiry was opened following a report from Bookmaker’s Supervisor Mr M. Sweeney that licensed bookmaker Mr L. Gallagher had been using a laptop computer which did not contain the appropriate monitoring software approved by Queensland Racing Limited.
