Supplementary Report

From Race 2 Eagle Farm, 24.7.10

C. Gilby, rider of ABLE SEAMAN, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)©(ii), in that he used his whip in a forehand manner in excess of 5 times prior to the 100m. C. Gilby was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 14 August and to expire at midnight, 28 August.

As B. Stewart was to be overweight on THE CHANSTER in race 2 and TOPTWO in race 7, and G. Colless was to be overweight on TUSCANY VIEW in race 5, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.

Race 1: St Margaret’s Parents & Friends 2MW H'cap - 1200m
1st – Kneel & Raise 2nd – Red Ferments 3rd – Centover 4th - Aspiran

Approaching the 1100m, RED FERMENTS (C. Munce) shifted out from the heels of ASPIRAN (K. Wharton) and made contact with TISANI BOY (J. Byrne).

CENTOVER (M. Cahill) was unable to establish clear running in the home straight until a point approaching the 100m.

TISANI BOY (J. Byrne) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight until obtaining a run between RED FERMENTS (C. Munce) and FALCONTEN (S. Seamer) near the 200m.

FALCONTEN (S. Seamer) raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

G. Colless, rider of the 6th placegetter BRAEBROOK, was fined $200 for failing to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race.

Stewards sought an explanation from jockey J. Byrne regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of TISANI BOY. J. Byrne stated that the horse travelled well and whilst it was held up for clear running until near the 200m, he was disappointed with the gelding’s finishing effort. He added that the horse at this stage of its preparation may be looking for further distance in its races than that of today’s event. Trainer K. Kemp agreed that TISANI BOY may now be looking for more ground and added that in his opinion the fact that TISANI BOY was held up until the 200m had quite an effect on the horse today as he is of the view that TISANI BOY races best when able to get clear and gather momentum from a point rounding the home turn.

An explanation was sought from trainer T. Dougall for the seemingly improved performance of KNEEL AND RAISE. Mr Dougall stated that connections had taken the horse north to compete in carnivals at Rockhampton and Mackay in recent years and on both occasions KNEEL AND RAISE had performed disappointingly. He added that following a short let up after its last run, KNEEL AND RAISE had worked well and he was confident that the horse would perform well today.

Race 2: Loud And Clear Design Open H'cap - 1000m
1st – Falco Star 2nd – Forestreno 3rd – Backstabber 4th - Decibella

As B. Stewart was to be overweight on THE CHANSTER and TOPTWO (Race 7), riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet. B. Stewart was fined $300.

DECIBELLA (J. Byrne) and BACKSTABBER (M. Bennett) bumped on jumping away.

Jockey J. Holder, rider of CHANGING EYES, which performed below expectations, advised stewards that the horse travelled well until a point passing the 400m when FORESTRENO, which was racing to its inside, shifted out to obtain clear running and made contact with CHANGING EYES. J. Holder added from that point forward it commenced to weaken and compounded significantly over the concluding stages and proved very disappointing. Stable representative Mr G. Doughty advised stewards that, in his opinion, CHANGING EYES may not have appreciated the firm surface today, and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which becomes apparent in the following days which may have had a bearing on the performance of CHANGING EYES. A post race veterinary examination of CHANGING EYES failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 3: Belle Property F&M NMW H'cap - 1000m
1st – Seqsatonal 2nd –Fille De Neige 3rd – Miss Armorica 4th – Glacial Miss

GLACIAL MISS (C. McIver) was slow to begin.

LADY PRIMERA (L. Rolls) was tightened for room at the start between QUEEN OF DANES (M. Walker) and SEQSATIONAL (M. Speers), which shifted out.

KOORONG AVENUE (J. Byrne) had a tendency to overrace in the middle stages.

Near the 700m, LADY PRIMERA (L. Rolls) shifted in, making contact with GLACIAL MISS (C. McIver). As a result, GLACIAL MISS made heavy contact with the running rail.

An inquiry will be opened into the reason for FALVELIZABETH (J. Wood) sustaining interference approaching the 400m.

Over the concluding stages, GLACIAL MISS (C. McIver) was inconvenienced when obtaining a run between SEQSATIONAL (M. Speers) and FALVELIZABETH (J. Wood), which shifted in under pressure.

ADVENTUROUS ANGEL (S. Seamer) raced wide without cover throughout.

QUEEN OF DANES hung out throughout the event.

Stewards sought an explanation from M. Cahill, rider of RO’S PURRING, regarding the disappointing performance of the mare today. M. Cahill stated that whilst RO’S PURRING was pressured in the lead by FILLE DE NEIGE, the mare was under pressure leaving the 600m and proved very disappointing. Trainer Mr M. Lakey stated that he was disappointed with the mare’s performance, adding that RO’S PURRING had trialled well on 27 July when ridden by M. Cahill and had worked well subsequent to this in the lead up to today’s race. Mr Lakey undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality that comes to light in the following days which might explain the performance of RO’S PURRING. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken from the mare. A further examination of RO’S PURRING revealed the horse to be suffering from thumps. Trainer M. Lakey was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance for the horse prior to its next race start.

Race 4: FK Gardner CG&E NMW H'cap - 1000m
1st – Reizarb 2nd – Sequalo Morn 3rd – Albert’s Image 4th – Stop Lying

HYDE PARK (J. Letherby) was slow to begin.

AL CHICAGO (E. Wilkinson) jumped away awkwardly.

Leaving the 700m, GENERAL NONSENSE (K. Wharton), which was inclined to lay in, shifted in, making contact with NOBLE INTENT (S. Seamer).

Near the 600m, SWIFT ‘N’ DAPPER (M. Cahill), which was racing fiercely, had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between THE CRUSADER (R. McMahon) and AL CHICAGO, which shifted out slightly.

J. Wood, rider of ENCOSTA SEQUALO, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of AL CHICAGO (E. Wilkinson), resulting in AL CHICAGO being taken out on to THE CRUSADER, which had to be checked when tightened for room between AL CHICAGO and SWIFT ‘N’ DAPPER. J. Wood was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 14 August and to expire at midnight 27 August.

Passing the 300m, HYDE PARK (J. Letherby) improved onto the heels of NOBLE INTENT, causing its rider, J. Letherby to stop riding and alter course.

M. Cahill, rider of SWIFT ‘N’ DAPPER, reported that he had difficulty fully testing his mount due to it hanging in under pressure in the straight.

Race 5: Superior Broadband Services Class 6 Plate – 2118m
1st – Aiglon 2nd – Athenas Gift 3rd – Loves A Challenge 4th – Diago

As G. Colless was to be overweight, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of TUSCANY VIEW. G. Colless was fined $100.

Apprentice J. Wood was fined $100 for failing to claim his full allowance on EMERALD HILL.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by J. Byrne, rider of the 2nd placegetter, ATHENAS GIFT, against AIGLON (C. Munce) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 300m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the patrol films, stewards dismissed the objection when it was established that whilst AIGLON had initially shifted in near the 200m, ATHENAS GIFT then shifted out near the 150m, which resulted in both J. Byrne and C. Munce being unable to fully test their mounts with the whip. In all the circumstances, stewards ruled that the interference sustained by ATHENAS GIFT near the 200m was not sufficient to warrant a reversal of placings and the protest was therefore dismissed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

EMERALD HILL (J. Wood), FLEXIBILITY (C. McIver), TUSCANY VIEW (J. Taylor) and SIONG TEE (B. Stewart) were all tightened for room at the start between TZANANN (L. Rolls) and LOVES A CHALLENGE (R. McMahon), both of which shifted ground.

WALPERSDORF (J. Bowditch) was slow to begin.

DIAGO and MALANDRINA (R. Wiggins) raced wide in the early stages.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, TUSCANY VIEW (J. Taylor) was tightened for room when racing to the inside of FLEXIBILITY (C. McIver), which shifted in, resulting in TUSCANY VIEW having to be steadied. TUSCANY VIEW then overraced for some distance approaching the 1800m. C. McIver, rider of FLEXIBILITY, was severely reprimanded.

A post race veterinary examination of GAZE ON revealed the gelding to be sore in both forelegs. Trainer C. Jordan will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for GAZE ON prior to its next race start.

Race 6: St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1500
1st – Celtic Dancer 2nd – Hidden Treasure 3rd – I’llbetricked 4th – Random Orbit

HENNESSY’S MAGIC (J. Holder) was slow to begin.

TEMPLE COURT (K. Banks) knuckled on jumping away.

CATS ARE FLYING (E. Wilkinson) was tightened for room at the start between MACKENZIE (C. Munce) and FILLYDELPHIA (M. Speers), both of which shifted ground.

I’LLBETRICKED (A. Erhart) overraced in the early and middle stages.

An inquiry was opened into the reason for M. Speers, rider of FILLYDELPHIA, and L. Rolls, rider of CARE BARE, being dislodged near the 300m. RANDOM ORBIT (J. Byrne) and HENNESSY’S MAGIC (J. Holder) had to be checked near the 300m and alter course to avoid the riderless FILLYDELPHIA. Following evidence being taken from K. Banks, rider of TEMPLE COURT, and B. Stewart, rider of JET SURGE, the inquiry was adjourned to allow evidence to be taken from the fallen riders, M. Speers and L. Rolls, both of whom were transported to hospital.

Race 7: Brand + Slater Architects Country Cup H'cap - 1400m
1st – Al Mazaya 2nd – Red Story 3rd – Oscar The Great 4th – Liberty Edition

FOLICHONNE was declared a late scratching 7.57 pm.

RED STORY (G. Colless), which was laying on the near-side barrier partition, jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

HARDWICK (C. Munce) raced 3 deep without cover throughout.

RIVER STREET (M. Heagney) and TOPTWO (M. Cahill) raced wide throughout.

C. Munce, rider of HARDWICK, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.

Race 8: Rohrig Open H'cap – 1815m
1st – Deacon 2nd – Shuffle The Cash 3rd – Sir Kingsford 4th – Bugsytwoshoes

M. Cahill, rider of DEACON, was fined $200 in that he made a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.

GO CART (R. Wiggins), KINSMATE (J. Taylor) and YIELD CURVE (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.

BUGSYTWOSHOES (M. Walker) raced wide in the early stages.

YIELD CURVE shifted out to improve from the 1000m and raced wide from that point onwards.

Near the 700m, SIR KINGSFORD (C. Munce) shifted out, forcing YIELD CURVE wider on the track.

Passing the 600m, SHUFFLE THE CASH shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so made contact with SIR KINGSFORD, causing both horses to become unbalanced.

REBOUNDED (J. Wood) was unable to obtain clear running at any stage from the 500m onwards.

DEACON was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

Leaving the 200m, TOBOUGGIE WOOGIE (S. Seamer) was inconvenienced when tightened for room to the inside of REBOUNDED, which shifted in.

Over the concluding stages, SIR KINGSFORD was tightened for room and had to be steadied between SHUFFLE THE CASH and DEACON, which shifted in under pressure.

Stewards sought an explanation from S. Seamer regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of TOBOUGGIE WOOGIE. S. Seamer stated that he was obliged to race wide in the early stages and he was forced to press forward and take up an uncustomary leading position and this, in his opinion, may have had an effect on the horse’s capacity to finish the race off. S. Seamer added that TOBOUIGGIE WOOGIE may not have backed up from its last start at Doomben on 31 July 2010.

C. Gilby, rider of ABLE SEAMAN, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)©(ii), in that he used his whip in a forehand manner in excess of 5 times prior to the 100m. C. Gilby was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings. Stewards ordered the term of suspension be served concurrently with the penalty handed down for a breach of the same rule on 24 July 2010. In addition, stewards acting under AR92A(2) ordered jockey Gilby to attend 3 remedial sessions with Racing Queensland Riding Skills panel members, one of which must be conducted prior to his riding commitments on Tuesday, 10 August.
