SUPPLEMENTARY

From Doomben Meeting 25/9/2010

C. Munce the rider of HAVATRYST was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift out approaching the finish line when insufficiently clear of MISS IMIGICA, resulting in that horse having to be checked to avoid the heels of HAVATRYST. C. Munce’s licence to ride in races was suspended for period of 6 meetings to commence midnight 3 October 2010 and to expire midnight 15 October 2010. In assessing penalty stewards took into account the good race riding record of C. Munce.

Race 1: Champion Liquor Open H’Cap - 2100m
1st – Chilled 2nd – Yield Curve 3rd – Beartracker 4th - Rightson

As App A Butler was overweight stewards permitted App M Hellyer to be substituted as the rider of BEARTRACKER. App A Butler was subsequently fined the sum of $200.00.

BEARTRACKER (App M. Hellyer) and BELL ACADEMY (B. El-Issa) made contact on jumping away.

J. Byrne reported that RIGHTSON was reluctant to stretch out on the rain affected track when placed under pressure in the straight.

Following the running of this event the track was reassessed to a “slow 6” retrospective to this event.

Race 2: Hakfoort Hotel Group Open H’Cap - 1000m
1st – Carry The Clubs 2nd – Temple Of Boom 3rd – Falco Star 4th - Aspiran

CATTLEMAN (App A. Butler) jumped away awkwardly and made contact with LEAPFROG (C. Munce) and shifted inwards. A short distance later CATTLEMAN had to be checked when tightened for room between LEAPFROG, which shifted in slightly and TEMPLE OF BOOM (L. Cassidy), which was taken out by RED FERMENTS (App N. Yamada), which had been taken out by LOTSAMOOLA (App M. Hellyer). In this incident RED FERMENTS also lost its position. In the circumstances stewards issued a severe reprimand to App M. Hellyer for failing to fulfil his obligations to straighten his mount when it had shifted ground outwards.

App M. Wood reported that ASPIRAN was not completely comfortable on the rain affected surface.

Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of LEAPFROG. C. Munce stated that whilst the horse’s form indicated it is not effective on rain affected surfaces he felt that LEAPFROG travelled quite well through the early and middle stages however, was under pressure and compounded inside the final 200m proving very disappointing. A post race veterinary examination of LEAPFROG revealed no abnormalities.

Race 3: Clubs Qld Fillies & Mares NMW H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Sailor Sam 2nd – Charsui 3rd – Glacial Miss 4th - Tegic

FLINDERS CITY (B. El-Issa) jumped away awkwardly and bumped SIGURDARDOTTIR (App S. Bogenhuber).

CRAIGLEA BELLA (App J. Kropp) was slow to begin.

LOTSAHULA (G. Colless) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 1100m GLACIAL MISS (S. Katsidis) laid in and had to be momentarily steadied from the heels of CHARSUI (J. Byrne).

Near the 1000m SIGURDARDOTTIR was momentarily tightened for room by CHARSUI, which shifted in. J. Byrne the rider of CHARSUI was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce regarding the tactics employed on DANEREADY. C. Munce stated that DANEREADY began well and in the early stages it became evident to him that he would be unable to comply with his instructions to position the horse midfield as he would have been forced to travel wide and therefore elected to allow the horse to stride forward to a position in the lead.

G. Colless the rider of LOTSAHULA, which performed below expectations, stated that the mare travelled satisfactorily in the early and middle stages apart from a short distance passing the 800m where it raced fiercely when taken on in the lead by DANEREADY. However, when he placed LOTSAHULA under pressure in the straight it failed to stretch out and proved very disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from a seasonal complaint.
When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted on GLACIAL MISS, in particular in the early stages where a position appeared midfield closer to the rails, S. Katsidis explained that he intended to follow CHARSUI in an effort to position his horse with cover rather than restrain it to a position behind FLINDERS STREET (B. El-Issa). S. Katsidis added that when unable to obtain a position behind CHARSUI he was obliged to race 3 wide for the majority of the race. S. Katsidis further added that he felt travelling wide on the track today was not a distinct disadvantage in his opinion.

Race 4: Shafston Hotel Colts, Geldings & Enitres NMW H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Captain Clayton 2nd – Falvadore 3rd – Seventh Heart 4th – Primeval Demand

As E. Wilkinson was delayed due to transport difficulties stewards permitted App M. Speers to be substituted as the rider of PEA EYE CEE.

As L. Cassidy was overweight stewards permitted M. Morris to be substituted as the rider of FALVADORE. L. Cassidy was subsequently fined the sum of $200.00.

RATTLE ‘N’ RUN (R. Wiggins) was tightened for room at the start between SEVENTH HEART (G. Colless) and START AGAIN (S. Seamer), which shifted outwards.

SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET (J. Byrne) was tightened for room on jumping away between SEVENTH HEART and FRISCO LIGHTS (App M. Hellyer), which shifted in.

PEA EYE CEE (App M. Speers), which was slow to begin, was tightened shortly after the start between FALVADORE (M. Morris) and CAPTAIN CLAYTON (C. Munce), which shifted in.

SLEEK MACHINE (B. El-Issa) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

TELESTO WARRIOR (App M. Wood) raced wide in the early stages of the event.

SLEEK MACHINE and SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET both overraced during the early and middle stages of the event.

Leaving the 400m G. Colless (SEVENTH HEART) shifted out in an endeavour to provide his mount with clear running and in doing so made contact with FALVADORE, which held its racing line. SEVENTH HEART was then held up for clear running behind TELESTO WARRIOR. SEVENTH HEART was again disappointed for a run near the 200m when attempting to improve around the heels of TELESTO WARRIOR when FRISCO LIGHTS maintained its racing line.

FALVADORE raced 3 wide without cover throughout the event.

SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET and CAPTAIN CLAYTON both raced 3 wide throughout the event.

A post race veterinary examination revealed SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET had sustained a laceration to the near fore cannon in running.

A post race veterinary examination of STONER (K. Fujii), which compounded after leading the event, failed to reveal any abnormalities.

M. Morris the rider of FALVADORE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that near the 350m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of SLUGSBROTHERNUGGET, resulting in its rider J. Byrne having to take hold of his mount to avoid the heels of FALVADORE. M. Morris’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings to commence midnight 3 October 2010 and to expire midnight 15 October 2010.

Stewards sought an explanation from S. Seamer with regard to the disappointing performance of START AGAIN. S. Seamer stated that his mount jumped away very awkwardly and as a result was positioned further back than he anticipated. S. Seamer further explained that the horse travelled satisfactorily through the early and middle stages however, when asked for an effort did not accelerate and proved disappointing in the run to the finish.

Race 5: Thirsty Camel QTIS 3YO H'Cap - 1400m
1st – Random Orbit 2nd – Slice And Dice 3rd – Falino 4th – Count Your Fingers

As B. Stewart was overweight stewards permitted M. Morris to be substituted as the rider of IN A TANGLE. B. Stewart was subsequently fined the sum of $300.00.

The start of this race was momentarily delayed when WHISPRIAN (App M. Hellyer) became fractious in the barriers.

WHISPRIAN jumped out at the start and made heavy contact with STEPHEN GOT EVEN (J. Taylor).

CASTLE EXPRESS (L. Cassidy) jumped away awkwardly.

LA BELLA ROSE (S. Seamer) jumped outwards at the start making heavy contact with RANDOM ORBIT (App B. Evans), which in turn shifted out and bumped SLICE AND DICE (S. Katsidis).

CRAIGLEA TINA (App J. Kropp) raced wide in the early stages of the event.

SLICE AND DICE, LA BELLA ROSE, LA BELL AURORE (B. El-Issa) and CASTLE EXPRESS (L. Cassidy) all raced wide for the majority of the event.

App B Evans the rider of RANDOM ORBIT was fined the sum of $200.00 for returning to scale in excess of ½ kilo over his declared weight.

Stewards sought an explanation from G. Colless regarding the disappointing performance of MAGIC TARTAN. G. Colless stated that the horse did not travel well at any stage throughout the event and had a tendency to get its head on the side and hang outwards. Stable representative for J. Thompson, Mr T. Edmonds advised stewards that consideration would now be given to sending MAGIC TARTAN for a spell and he undertook to advise stewards of any condition that comes to light in the days subsequent to the event that may explain the filly’s performance.

A post race veterinary examination of WHISPRIAN revealed the horse had sustained a laceration to the poll.

Race 6: Bluetongue Lager Class 6 H'Cap - 1600m
1st – Lucky Dubai 2nd – Eddie Rapido 3rd – Go Forest Go 4th - Norteno

UPYONDER, which was kicked by another runner behind the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

SPECHENKA (J. Taylor), LUCKY DUBAI (E. Wilkinson) and EDDIE RAPIDO (D. Craven) were all slow to begin.

JUNGLE HEAT (R. Wiggins) overraced through the middle stages of the event and near the 800m improved up onto the heels of JONKA TIKI (B. Stewart) and shifted out taking UPYONDER (B. El-Issa) wider on the track.

Over the concluding stages PATMOSS (C. Munce) improved up onto the heels of NORTENO (App M. Hellyer), resulting in its rider being unable to fully test his horse over the concluding stages of the event.

D. Craven the rider of EDDIE RAPIDO was fined the sum of $200.00 for returning to scale in excess of ½ kilo over his declared weight. In assessing penalty stewards advised D. Craven that they were mindful of the margin between second and first, which was 1½ lengths and only for the margin a more severe penalty may have been imposed.

B. El-Issa (UPYONDER) and R. Wiggins (JUNGLE HEAT) were questioned as to aspects of their riding of their respective mounts in the early and middle stages. The areas of concern to the stewards were confined to the reasons JUNGLE HEAT was able to obtain a position on the rails inside its stablemate UPYONDER from its wide barrier and the reasons JUNGLE HEAT was able to progress forward from the 800m inside of UPYONDER. R. Wiggins explained that from a wide barrier he had intended to take up a position with cover midfield however, leaving the 1400m he had received some pressure from NORTENO, which resulted in his mount shifting in across UPYONDER when not fully clear. B. El-Issa explained that he had been instructed to ride UPYONDER in a rearward position so he was not concerned about holding a position inside of JUNGLE HEAT when that horse commenced to cross his line leaving the 1400m. Approaching the 1000m JUNGLE HEAT then commenced to overrace and shifted out away from the rails at a point where UPYONDER, which was racing on its outside, seemed reluctant to hold its position. B. El-Issa explained that his mount did not travel in the prevailing track conditions and as a consequence did not perform up to expectations. Their explanations were noted.

Race 7: Origin Kebabs Open H'Cap - 1400m
1st – Regal Castanea 2nd – Mr Orient 3rd – Patties Mate 4th – Fifteen Carat

C. Munce reported that he was forced to ride REGAL CASTANEA contrary to his instructions when the horse started to race fiercely when the pace was slow in the early stages of the event. As a consequence of the slow pace REGAL CASTANEA was then obliged to lead.

S. Katsidis reported that FIFTEEN CARAT failed to handle the prevailing track conditions.

Following the running of this event the track was reassessed to a “slow 7” retrospective to this event.

A post race veterinary examination of MASAI PRIDE revealed no abnormalities.

Race 8: McGuires Hotel Group Class 6 H'Cap - 1300m
1st – Rock Home Late 2nd – Essington 3rd – Upper Class 4th – Academy Magic

Trainer W.A. Baker was fined the sum of $100.00 for the late declaration of R. Wiggins as the rider of ACADEMY MAGIC.

UPPER CLASS (J. Byrne) raced extremely wide throughout the event.

TRISKELE, JOYEUX JOY (B. El-Issa), ESSINGTON (C. Munce) and SHAOS (App E. Kehoe) all raced wide throughout the event.

B. Stewart the rider of ROCK HOME LATE was fined the sum of $200.00 for returning to scale in excess of ½ kilo over his declared weight.

A post race veterinary examination of ACADEMY MAGIC revealed the gelding had bled from both nostrils. ACADEMY MAGIC will now incur a mandatory 3 month ban under the provisions of AR53A.

L. Cassidy reported that UNSUPERVISED did not handle the prevailing track conditions today.
