Race 1: MICK HALL ROCK VEGAS QTIS H’CAP - 1500m
1st – Hour Of Peril 2nd – Random Orbit 3rd – Rapid Leica Dane 4th – Castle Express

OVERBOARD (M. Hellyer) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with ANGEL FROM ABOVE (E. Wilkinson) which as a result lost its position.

Near the 1200m RAPID LEICA DANE (M. Cahill) raced in restricted room for some distance inside of DARK SECRETS (J. Bowditch) which after initially tightening the running of RAPID LEICA DANE was taken in marginally by SATCH (P. Hammersley). Both P. Hammersley and J. Bowditch were advised to exercise more care and provide sufficient racing room to their fellow riders.

When the pace slowed during the middle stages ALLINFRONTOFHER (J. Byrne), HOUR OF PERIL (S. Katsidis), OVERBOARD and ANGEL FROM ABOVE all overraced. ALLINFRONTOFHER continued to overrace and on several occasions approaching the 600m had to be steadied from the heels of RANDOM ORBIT (J. Wood).

CASTLE EXPRESS (M. Wood) was obliged to race wide throughout.

Rounding the home turn RANDOM ORBIT shifted out and made contact with RAPID LEICA DANE on several occasions when attempting to obtain clear running. RAPID LEICA DANE held its racing line, which resulted in RANDOM ORBIT being held up until leaving the 350m.

Stewards sought an explanation from M. Speers, the rider of SLICE AND DICE, in regards to the gelding’s seemingly disappointing performance. M. Speers said the horse showed good speed from the barrier and after leading briefly was able to secure a nice run just behind the leaders and travelled comfortably throughout the early and middle stages. M. Speers added that when he placed SLICE AND DICE under pressure in the straight it failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of SLICE AND DICE revealed no abnormalities, however it was revealed that the horse had sprung its near fore and off hind plates in running. Trainer L. Birchley reported to stewards that he was disappointed with the performance, however stated that the horse raced on the inside section of the track and, in his opinion the racing pattern today has shown that that is the inferior section of the track. Mr Birchley nonetheless undertook to advise stewards of anything comes to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the horse’s performance.

Race 2: G & N WALLS ELECTRICAL QTIS H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Racing Stripes 2nd – Zed Man 3rd – Dazzling Kind 4th – Pym’s Lane

SISTABELLA (M. Hellyer) was tightened for room on jumping away between ANOTHER ACTRESS (J. Bowditch) and PYM’S LANE (S. Katsidis), both of which shifted ground.

RAPID JET SPUR (R. Wiggins) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

TOP BUTTON (J. Wood) and DAZZLING KIND (J. Byrne) began awkwardly.

VIKING HEART (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.

Leaving the 500m RAPID JET SPUR, which was racing greenly, had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between VIKING HEART and TOP BUTTON, which shifted out slightly after improving to the outside of the heels of PYM’S LANE.

RACING STRIPES (M. Wood) raced very greenly when placed under pressure in the straight.

A post-race veterinary examination of ANOTHER ACTRESS failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Race 3: MARIO & SAM GONFALONIERE H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Rapid Magic 2nd – Friday Nights 3rd – Rock Rave 4th – Pea Eye Cee

SHEDABOSS (J. Holder) and RAGE AND RAVE (S. Seamer) made contact on jumping away. RAGE AND RAVE then blundered, almost dislodging its rider.

SEESAWING (M. Wood) was inlined to lay in under pressure in the early part of the home straight which resulted in ELEVENTH COMMAND (C. McIver) being inconvenienced.

Near the 300m SEESAWING shifted out under pressure and made heavy contact with START AGAIN (J. Byrne) which did shift in slightly. This contact resulted in both runners becoming unbalanced. App. M Wood rider of SEESAWING was issued with a severe reprimand and advised that he would be expected to make a far greater effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in the future.
J. Holder, the rider of SHEDABOSS, which performed below market expectations, explained that the horse overraced for a considerable distance after reaching the lead and he felt this had a substantial effect on the horse’s capacity to finish the race off. J. Holder added that whilst the track is rain-affected, SHEDABOSS exhibits its best performances when the track is very heavy.

T. Edmonds, stable representative for trainer J. Thompson, advised that in light of the performance of START AGAIN today connections would now give consideration to spelling the horse.

Race 4: NATIONWIDE HEAVY HAULAGE H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Essington 2nd – Upper Class 3rd – Professor 4th - Upyonder

COOL EDITION was a late scratching at 8.47 a.m. on veterinary advice.

Connections advised that, from its difficult barrier, if circumstances permit GO FOREST GO will be ridden up on the speed.

GO FOREST GO (R. McMahon) was slow to begin.

UPYONDER (R. Wiggins) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 800m GO FOREST GO improved up on to the heels of UPPER CLASS (J. Byrne) and had to be steadied.

PROFESSOR (B. Stewart) laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.

Stewards sought an explanation from R. McMahon in regards to the tactics he employed on GO FOREST GO. R. McMahon stated that whilst it was the connections’ intention to have the horse ridden in a forward position, it did not begin well from its wide barrier and as a result he was forced to settle the horse further back than he anticipated. R. McMahon added that through the middle stages the pace of the race was very slow and near the 600m UPPER CLASS, which was racing forward of him, shifted to a one-off position to improve. Jockey McMahon added that as a result and in consideration of the speed, he felt it was necessary for him to improve his position and his only means of doing so was to plot a course towards the inside section of the track. R. McMahon further added that in his opinion the ground in that section was inferior which may have contributed to the horse’s performance. He was also of the view that the horse was feeling the effects of recent racing. Trainer K. Schweida confirmed that the horse would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination of GO FOREST GO revealed no abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary examination of UPPER CLASS failed to reveal any abnormalities, however it was noted that the horse had lost its near hind plate in running.

Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to SLOW 7, retrospective to this event.

Race 5: STANTON MIENERT ACCOUNTANTS H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Guissepino 2nd – Daneomite 3rd – Captain Clayton 4th – Chaski

GUISSEPINO (C. McIver) jumped out at the start and bumped LOTSAMOOLA (S. Katsidis), which was slow to begin.

Stewards sought an explanation from S. Katsidis in regards to the disappointing performance of LOTSAMOOLA. S. Katsidis stated that the horse only began fairly and did not muster its customary speed under 57kg and was forced to race three wide. S. Katsidis added that he did not think this was a disadvantage today and the horse travelled comfortably through the middle stages. Jockey Katsidis further stated that LOTSAMOOLA did not respond to his riding in the straight and he felt that the horse may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination of LOTSAMOOLA revealed no abnormalities. Trainer B. Bellamy advised stewards that he would monitor LOTSAMOOLA over the coming days and report anything that may explain today’s disappointing performance.

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer L. Birchley in regards to the disappointing performance of SISTER HAVANA (M. Speers). Mr Birchley stated that the horse performed disappointingly on a heavy track first-up this preparation, however in his opinion the horse does handle some give in the ground and bearing in mind the weather conditions he felt the track may improve to a point where SISTER HAVANA would be able to perform favourably. He added that in considering the horse’s performance it was evident to him that it did not handle today’s rain-affected surface. A post-race veterinary examination of SISTER HAVANA revealed no abnormalities.

Race 6: NATIONWIDE CIVIL H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Save A Buck 2nd – Sam’s Express 3rd – Mr Orient 4th – Pyramids

MASAI PRIDE (S. Katsidis) was slow to begin.

Leaving the 800m REGAL CASTANEA (J. Wood) commenced to hang out, taking MR ORIENT (J. Holder) and COCKTAIL SUPREME (S. Seamer) wider on the track. REGAL CASTANEA continued to hang out for the remainder of the event, resulting in J. Wood being unable to fully test the horse over the final 150m. A post-race veterinary examination of REGAL CASTANEA revealed no abnormalities. Trainer R. Macrae was advised that a warning was being placed on the horse’s racing manners.

Race 7: STANTON MIENERT BUSINESS ADVISORS PLATE - 1823m
1st – Winmara 2nd – Xanthos 3rd – Raeburn 4th – Sea Skye

Connections advised that CHE CASINO would be ridden in a more forward position today.

The start of this race was delayed when COMMANCHE WARRIOR (M. Speers) had to be resaddled after it arrived at the barrier stalls.

COMMANCHE WARRIOR overraced in the early and middle stages.

Near the 350m CERAMIC (C. McIver), which was tiring, was forced to race in restricted room between RAEBURN (S. Katsidis) and PATMOSS (M. Wood), which shifted out slightly.

J. Bowditch, the rider of DEB’S PICK, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a), in that leaving the 300m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of PATMOSS, resulting in PATMOSS having to be checked to avoid the heels of DEB’S PICK. J. Bowditch’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Sunday, 17 October, and expire at midnight on Thursday, 28 October 2010.

Apprentice M. Speers, the rider of COMMANCHE WARRIOR, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 200m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of DEB’S PICK, resulting in that horse having to be checked for several strides to avoid the heels of COMMANCHE WARRIOR. Apprentice M. Speers’ licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Saturday, 16 October, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 24 October 2010.

Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice M. Hellyer in regards to the disappointing performance of NORTENO. M. Hellyer stated that whilst he was hopeful of taking a forward position, he was trapped three wide going into the back straight and therefore he elected to take the lead. Apprentice Hellyer added that he was able to slow the speed in the middle stages but NORTENO was under pressure from the 600m and failed to respond to his riding in the home straight, proving very disappointing. Both M. Hellyer and trainer B. Wakefield were of the view that the gelding is better suited when able to establish a position with cover.

A post-race veterinary examination of IVY’S LEAGUE, which compounded to finish a distant last, revealed no abnormalities.

Race 8: BLACKWATER QUARRIES & CONCRETE PLATE - 1000m
1st – Temple Of Boom 2nd – Bruleur 3rd – Dr Barnard 4th – Destiny Partners

OVERANXIOUS (J. Holder) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

AQUILA BRAVE (M. Hellyer) jumped out at the start and made heavy contact with LEAPFROG (P. Hammersley).

SENSATIONAL LINE (C. McIver), TEMPLE OF BOOM (M. Cahill), DESTINY PARTNERS (J. Byrne) and OVERANXIOUS raced wide throughout.

JAD (M. Wood) had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the straight and near the 200m shifted in and bumped the tiring MULTIRE MUSIC (S. Seamer).

Leaving the 200m SENSATIONAL LINE was crowded for room between DESTINY PARTNERS and LA CHANCE FINALE (L. Deguara), which was taken out by JAD.

S. Seamer, the rider of MULTIRE MUSIC, which performed below expectations, stated that he decided to get cover on the horse when the speed was strong in the early stages and the mare travelled well but dipped in the going on several occasions rounding the home turn and from that point forward failed to respond to his riding. Trainer T. McCarthy could offer no explanation for the horse’s poor performance and undertook to advise stewards if anything comes to light in coming days which may have had an effect on the horse’s performance. A post-race veterinary examination of MULTIRE MUSIC revealed no abnormalities.
