Mr Flynn explained that due to a clerical error, a particular bet from a punter had been recorded in his telephone ledger when that bet was made by the punter present on course.
Stewards took no direct action against Mr Flynn, however directed his attention to the provisions of the telephone betting rules which requires the accurate recording of all bets made.
Race 1:Mitty’s 3yo Maiden Plate - 1200m
1st – Mallard 2nd – Kosmic Karma 3rd – Otango 4th - Parilla
Trainer R. Heathcote advised that from the inside barrier, BRIBIE would be ridden with cover behind the leaders if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
When parading in the enclosure the near fore plate of I’LLBETRICKED became loose and the gelding was subsequently re-plated.
The start of this race was delayed when I’LLBETRICKED reared in the barriers and became cast. The gelding was subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon and was declared a late scratching at 1 pm. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on I’LBETRICKED were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 3 cents in the dollar on the face value of win and place bets. Trainer D. Lawlor was advised that he must provide 2 further barrier certificates for I’LLBETRICKED prior to its next race start.
The start was further delayed when RUNNING SOLO was fractious in the barriers. RUNNING SOLO was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
Approaching the 1000m, RUNNING SOLO (K. Forrester) raced ungenerously when being restrained.
OTANGO (C. Munce) hung in when placed under pressure inside the final 200m.
Stewards sought an explanation from L. Cassidy regarding the disappointing performance of BRIBIE. L. Cassidy stated that the gelding began well and travelled comfortably in a handy trailing position, however commenced to hang out from the 500m and made the home turn awkwardly. L. Cassidy explained that when he placed BRIBIE under pressure in the early part of the straight, the gelding did not respond and proved disappointing. Trainer Mr R. Heathcote was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the performance of BRIBIE and undertook to report to stewards any abnormality which may come to light which may have had a bearing on today's performance. A post race veterinary examination of BRIBIE revealed the gelding had sustained a laceration to the near fore leg and abrasions to both forelegs. A swab sample was taken from BRIBIE.
Race 2: www.brc.com.au Maiden Plate - 1000m
1st – Eureka Dubai 2nd – Lord Lucknow 3rd – Ray Joan 4th – Call Me Cobber
COUNT SPUR (C. Munce) was slow to begin.
LORD LUCKNOW (K. Yoshida) jumped away awkwardly.
After being a little slow to begin, CONTESSA BELLE (J. Wood) was hampered soon after the start between MISTER SAMBA (J. Holder) and MASTER KWILA (S. Drake), both of which shifted ground.
Approaching the 600m, CONTESSA BELLE had to be steadied when tightened for room between EUREKA DUBAI (R. Wiggins) and MASTER KWILA, which shifted in when not fully clear. S. Drake, rider of MASTER KWILA, was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Near the 400m, CONTESSA BELLE attempted to take a narrow run to the inside of MISTER SAMBA. Shortly after, EUREKA DUBAI (R. Wiggins) shifted in and away from RAY JOAN (M. Hellyer) and brushed MISTER SAMBA (J. Holder), which resulted in MISTER SAMBA shifting in slightly and CONTESSA BELLE having to be checked to avoid the heels of that gelding. When considering the matter, stewards were not satisfied that CONTESSA BELLE had obtained a run to the inside of MISTER SAMBA, and were of the view that the racing manners of EUREKA DUBAI had contributed to MISTER SAMBA shifting in at this stage and therefore took no further action against any one rider.
From the 350m until approaching the 200m, CONTESSA BELLE was held up when unable to obtain clear running behind the tiring MISTER SAMBA.
Near the 200m, CONTESSA BELLE became unbalanced when tightened for room between MISTER SAMBA and COUNT SPUR.
Upon return to scale, apprentice M. Hellyer reported that RAY JOAN hung out in the middle stages and until entering the home straight, and when placed under pressure had a tendency to hang in.
Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Dead 4.

After travelling a short distance, DEGREE OF HONOUR (R. McMahon) and SHAH RUKH (D. Tanti) were tightened for room by FINN CLASS (D. Browne), which shifted in.
D. Browne advised that FINN CLASS put in a number of awkward strides shortly after the start and, in his view, may have attempted to buck, and for this reason he took hold of the mare. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that a warning was being placed on the mare regarding its racing manners.
