SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
As G. Colless was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Stewards today concluded an inquiry into a complaint lodged by Mr Matthew Bradley, a betting agent for Mr Sean Bartholomew, regarding a bet he attempted to place on WILLY JIMMY in Race 3 at Eagle Farm on 11 June 2011 at the odds of $5.50 with licensed bookmaker Lindsay Gallagher who had provided evidence that the price on offer at that stage was $5. Today evidence was taken from Mr Gallagher’s clerk, Mr Kevin Smith, and further evidence was considered from Mr Bradley and Mr Gallagher. After considering all the available evidence, stewards took no direct action as they were unable to establish the price on offer at that particular time.
Apprentice L. Rolls was fined $100 under AR. 85B for failing to fulfil his engagement on PURETTAN in Race 6 at the Gold Coast.
Race 1: ROBERT BAX & ASSOCIATES CLASS 6 PLATE - 1200m
1st – Elusive Port 2nd – Mr Orient 3rd – Favela Star 4th – I’m Ruthless
Stewards permitted S. Galloway to ride SCHIPPER 2kg over its allotted weight as there was no other rider available who could ride at the weight.
TAKE THIS WALTZ (A. Spinks), which was inspected at the request of its rider upon arrival at the barriers and found to be lame in the near foreleg, was declared a late scratching at 12.12 p.m. Connections were advised that they must produce a veterinary clearance for TAKE THIS WALTZ prior to its next start.
SCHIPPER (S. Galloway) shifted out at the start, making contact with I’M RUTHLESS (E. Wilkinson).
HANDSUPFORDETROIT (J. Byrne) and TETRA (J. Fry) were slow to begin.
WARRIOR GIRL (J. Taylor) overraced during the early and middle stages and shifted wider on the track after passing the 800m to avoid the heels of I’M RUTHLESS.
SHOW A LION HEART (S. Seamer) raced wide throughout.
ELUSIVE PORT (C. Munce) had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn and during the early stages of the home straight.
Near the 100m TEA TATTLE (R. McMahon) was tightened for room between HYDE PARK (A. Butler) and SCHIPPER which was taken out by WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY (L. Cassidy), which was hampered and taken wider by SEVENTH HEART (D. Browne) when that runner shifted out to improve. D. Browne was issued with a reprimand for this incident.
Stewards sought an explanation from J. Taylor regarding the performance of WARRIOR GIRL. He stated that the mare was uncharacteristically fractious behind the barriers and overraced in the early and middle stages which contributed to the mare being unable to finish the race off as expected. J. Taylor added that WARRIOR GIRL may be better suited in races over 1000m where there is a more genuine pace. Trainer K. Purdy confirmed that she would attempt to restrict WARRIOR GIRL to 1000m races in the future.
Race 2: HORIZON SUPERANNUATION ADMINISTRATION SERVICES CLASS 6 PLATE - 1800m
1st – Danagaze 2nd – Sam’s Town 3rd – Jess Sar Belle 4th – Strictly Business
Trainer B. Herne was fined $100 under AR. 59A for failing to produce the Document of Description for GOD’S HAND, VON BADEN (Race 3) and BEARTRACKER (Race 6).
EDDIE RAPIDO (A. Pattillo) was slow to begin.
Near the 1700m JESS SAR BELLE (T. Bell) was tightened for room between GOD’S HAND (A. Butler) and JOYEUX JOY (J. Taylor) which shifted in and away from RUSE DE GUERRE (J. Bowditch). As a result, LAKE GEORGE (D. Browne), which was following, had to be checked. J. Bowditch was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Near the 1600m JOYEUX JOY had to be checked when racing between MOTOWN LADY (P. Hammersley), which shifted in when not sufficiently clear and RUSE DE GUERRE, which shifted out whilst being restrained. As a result, JOYEUX JOY shifted wider on the track and then was ridden forward from its wide position to assume the lead near the 1300m. P. Hammersley was issued with a reprimand and advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear of his fellow riders in similar circumstances.
LAKE GEORGE overraced during the early stages.
SAM’S TOWN (J. Byrne) raced wide during the early stages.
DANAGAZE (A. Spinks) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
Near the 500m STRICTLY BUSINESS (C. Munce) shifted out to improve and in doing so made heavy contact with MOTOWN LADY.
D. Browne was provided with the opportunity of explaining the performance of LAKE GEORGE. Jockey Browne stated that, consistent with his instructions, he settled the gelding towards the rear of the field and in his opinion this resulted in the horse overracing during the early stages. He added that LAKE GEORGE may have been suited being ridden a handy position with cover. He further added that when placed under pressure LAKE GEORGE found the line fairly without sprinting as he expected.
GOD’S HAND (A. Butler) bled from both nostrils. Trainer B. Herne was advised that the gelding would now incur the mandatory three-month ban from racing.
A post-race veterinary examination of JESS SAR BELLE revealed the mare to have sustained a laceration to the near hind leg consistent with being galloped on. Stable representative Ms M. Leitch was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be provided for JESS SAR BELLE prior to racing again.
Race 3: HLB MANN JUDD BRISBANE TOWN PLATE - 1400m
1st – Alvitas 2nd – Zamboni 3rd – Signpost 4th – War Charm
VON BADEN (K. Fuji) was checked at the start when tightened for room between FIRST PIPEMAJOR (K. Wharton) and HARMONIES (J. Byrne), which was taken out by WARANGA (R. Hancock).
WAR CHARM (C. Munce) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with MOLLY’S WAY (T. Bell) and lost ground.
WILLIAMS AGENDA (J. Fry) blundered on jumping away and lost ground.
WILLIAMS AGENDA overraced in the early stages and at a point near the 900m shifted out across the heels of MUKTASHEF (C. Whiteley) and had to be checked, forcing FIRST PIPEMAJOR wider on the track. FIRST PIPEMAJOR then raced wide from this point onwards.
FEUER DRACHE (A. Pattillo) and GYPSY HEART (S. Seamer) overraced during the early stages.
In the early part of the home straight until approaching the 300m ZAMBONI (A. Spinks) was held up when unable to obtain clear running.
Near the 400m WARANGA had to be steadied when tightened for room between WILLIAMS AGENDA and HARMONIES which shifted out to improve.
Approaching the 200m TRANSPORTER (S. Galloway) had to be steadied from the heels of MUKTASHEF when that runner was taken out by SIGNPOST (D. Browne).
Following his ride in this event, A. Pattillo was stood down from his remaining engagement in Race 6 by the Club doctor.
Race 4: BANK OF QUEENSLAND NEW FARM 2MW-LY H’CAP - 1500m
1st – Strumming 2nd – Zippy Lou 3rd – Hume 4th – Absent Friends
A veterinary examination of WORK THE ROOM (P. Hammersley), which broke free momentarily from its strapper in the mounting yard and dislodged P. Hammersley, cleared the gelding to race.
SHAMARDASHING (S. Galloway) was slow to begin.
JAZZ HEART (J. Bowditch) overraced in the early and middle stages.
Near the 1200m ABSENT FRIENDS (J. Fry) was steadied when tightened for room between SHAMARDASHING and MONT FLEURI (J. Byrne) which shifted in. A short distance later ABSENT FRIENDS shifted out and raced three wide from that point onwards.
After obtaining the lead leaving the 1200m, J. Taylor (STRUMMING) slackened the pace until a point approaching the 1000m, resulting in ZIPPY LOU (L. Rolls), which was overracing, clipping the heels of STRUMMING, blundering and losing ground. Both JAZZ HEART and LORD OF ARMS (J. Holder), which were following, were forced to check, causing LORD OF ARMS to shift wider on the track which forced HUME (A. Butler) wider on the track for a short distance. J. Taylor was reprimanded and advised to be mindful of the consequences of slowing the pace excessively in similar circumstances.
Stewards sought an explanation from P. Hammersley regarding the performance of WORK THE ROOM. Jockey Hammersley stated that he had been instructed to race in a position just behind midfield, however during the early stages it became apparent that he would be caught wide and he elected to restrain further to a position at the tail of the field in order to obtain a position closer to the rail. He was of the opinion that this, coupled with the slow early tempo of the event, contributed to have a detrimental effect on the horse’s overall performance as he felt that the horse finished the race off well over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of WORK THE ROOM revealed the gelding to have a slower than normal post-race recovery rate.
Race 5: GEON GROUP QTIS 600 2YO PLATE - 1400m
1st – Rocket To Glory 2nd – Noisy Ocean 3rd – Black Cash 4th – Red Royal
DIVINE CITY, which slipped over in the horse stall area, was examined by the veterinary surgeon who found that the filly had sustained a superficial wound to off side fetlock and hip and was mildly lame in the off foreleg. Acting on veterinary advice, stewards declared DIVINE CITY a late scratching at 2.27 p.m. On the announcement of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on DIVINE CITY be refunded, with deductions of 19 cents in the dollar on the face value of win tickets and 16 cents in the dollar on the face value of place tickets to apply.
ZED MAN (S. Seamer), NOISY OCEAN (L. Cassidy) and FINE TUNE (T. Bell) were all slow to begin.
Shortly after the start FINE TUNE had to be steadied when tightened for room between COLLECTOR (K. Wharton) and BLACK CASH (D. Browne) which was taken in by TRAGEDY (E. Wilkinson).
Near the 1200m BREAK THE BLUES (K. Fuji) shifted out resulting in TOWN DAZZLER (S. Galloway) being inconvenienced and taken wider on the track.
After passing the 1100m PALADIN (J. Holder) was momentarily inconvenienced by JET STAR GIRL (J. Taylor) which shifted in. JET STAR GIRL then shifted out and made contact with BELLE D’AMOUR (J. Byrne).
BREAK THE BLUES (K. Fuji), BLACK CASH and TOWN DAZZLER (S. Galloway) raced wide throughout.
Near the 450m the tiring BREAK THE BLUES had to be steadied when racing between BLACK CASH and NOISY OCEAN which shifted out to obtain clear running.
Near the 300m CALLAN PARK (P. Hammersley) was buffeted on a number of occasions between NOISY OCEAN and PALADIN (J. Holder) which shifted out in an attempt to obtain clear running.
A post-race veterinary examination of BELLE D'AMOUR revealed the filly to be exhibiting an abnormal respiratory noise when breathing during recover from the race, however there were no other significant findings. Trainer B. Baldwin later reported that the filly would undergo further tests to determine if a throat operation is required as she seems to be making more noise and would also send the filly for an immediate spell.
Race 6: BMAG QUEENSLAND CUP - 3200m
1st – Tinseltown 2nd – Smoking Chimneys 3rd – Raeburn 4th – Maling
MAJESTIC SIGHT (A. Butler) and SANCY DIAMOND (A. Spinks) were both slow to begin.
Near the 2300m SMOKING CHIMNEYS (J. Taylor), when overracing at the heels of TINSELTOWN (C. Ormsby), shifted out, resulting in FAMOUS FORTUNE (C. Small), which raced wide for the majority of the event, being taken wider on the track.
Approaching the 1300m RAEBURN (S. Galloway), when overracing, had to be restrained from the heels of ZADANE (P. Hammersley), resulting in TINSELTOWN, which was following, being taken wider on the track.
C. Ormsby, the rider of TINSELTOWN, was fined $200 under AR. 137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
Race 7: PMP LIMITED ASCOT H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Essington 2nd – Metallurgical 3rd – Tierqualo 4th – Patties Mate
Trainer D. Kelly was fined $100 under AR. 140B for failing to submit a gear change for GOOD MEDICINE by the prescribed time.
The start of this race was delayed due to an extended delay with an interstate thoroughbred race.
UNSUPERVISED (T. Bell) stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Given the delay caused whilst holding for the interstate event, stewards took no action.
EL CHICO (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.
Race 8: PMP LIMITED QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Hampden 2nd – Mujahu 3rd – Fire Up Fifi 4th – Emoticon
CHANDRA (R. McMahon) and CRAIGELLACHIE (T. Bell) were both slow to begin.
MUJAHU (J. Holder) and UPSALA (C. Munce) were both tightened for room at the start between LINE OF CONFLICT (J. Fry) and RIVER LAD (S. Galloway), which jumped away awkwardly and shifted out.
GOLESTAN (K. Wharton) blundered on jumping away.
MILO (L. Cassidy) overraced during the early stages.
Near the 1100m CRAIGELLACHIE had to be checked when tightened for room to the inside of VALERA (J. Bowditch), which was taken in by EMOTICON (J. Byrne), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.
DOMINI (S. Seamer) and MILO raced wide throughout.
At the entrance to the straight MUJAHU was disappointed for a run between LINE OF CONFLICT and CRAIGLEA TINA (J. Kropp). MUJAHU then became awkward at the heels of LINE OF CONFLICT and shifted to the inside in order to improve.
EMOTICON was held up for clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m where, when attempting to secure clear running, it shifted out resulting in CHANDRA being taken across the heels of MILO.
GOLESTAN was held up when unable to obtain clear running in the straight until after passing the 300m.
Apprentice J. Fry, the rider of LINE OF CONFLICT, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, the careless riding being that near the 250m he permitted his mount to shift out under pressure when insufficiently clear of RIVER LAD, resulting in RIVER LAD being tightened for room between LINE OF CONFLICT and CRAIGLEA TINA and having to be checked. Apprentice Fry’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, with the term of suspension to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 13 July, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 27 July 2011.
Near the 150m VALERA was inconvenienced when CRAIGELLACHIE shifted in under pressure.
Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce regarding the performance of UPSALA. C. Munce explained that when he secured clear running in the home straight after passing the 300m the colt did not finish the race off as he expected and in his opinion has come to the end of its current preparation. A post-race veterinary examination of UPSALA revealed no significant findings.
J. Holder, the rider of MUJAHU, was issued with a reprimand for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. When assessing this matter, stewards were of the view that his actions had no materially effect on the placings in the race.
