As B. Stewart was to be overweight, J. Byrne was substituted as the rider of TURVANNA. B. Stewart was fined $200 under AR. 120(b).
HEZA JETSETTER (D. Browne) was slow to begin.
BAM’S BOY (A. Allen) jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with SIPPIN’BUNDY (G. Cooksley) which was taken out on to TREES A CROWD (L. Cassidy) which was tightened for room and when being checked was taken out on to the hind quarters of BETTER THAN READY (R. McMahon).
TURVANNA (J. Byrne), BEACH BABE (G. Colless) and REGILLUS (J. Taylor) raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 500m SIPPIN’BUNDY improved up on to the heels of BAM’S BOY and shifted out making contact with TREES A CROWD.
Rounding the home turn TURVANNA shifted out taking BEACH BABE wider.
R. McMahon, the rider of BETTER THAN READY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that near the 400m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of SIERRA RAPID (K. Wharton), resulting in that horse being taken out, which further resulted in NOOGOORA BURR (M. Speers) having to be checked from the heels of SIERRA RAPID. Jockey McMahon’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday, 28 April, and expire at midnight on Thursday, 10 May 2012.
Apprentice A. Allen, the rider of BAM’S BOY, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that after passing the 400m he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of SIPPIN’BUNDY, resulting in G. Cooksley having to take hold of his mount to avoid the heels of BAM’S BOY and alter course to the inside of that runner. Apprentice Allen’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Wednesday, 9 May, and expire at midnight on Thursday, 17 May 2012.
DANSONATE (M. Vance) was held up for clear running in the early part of the straight and leaving the 300m shifted out around the heels of TURVANNA and made heavy contact with HERE’S TO YA (C. Munce), causing both horses to become unbalanced. Apprentice M. Vance was reprimanded and advised to take greater care when shifting ground in the future.
M. Speers reported that NOOGOORA BURR began only fairly and he rode the horse aggressively to take up a forward position however when NOOGOORA BURR did not show the necessary speed and when it was obvious he would be trapped wide, he took hold of NOOGOORA BURR to obtain cover. Jockey Speers further reported that after meeting with interference near the 400m NOOGOORA BURR finished the race off quite well and he had suggested to connections that the horse be stepped up in distance or blinkers applied for its next start.
D. Browne reported at scale that despite his urgings HEZA JETSETTER was reluctant to take up a competitive position early in the race but finished the race off well in the straight.
BETTER THAN READY (R. McMahon) lost its off fore plate in running.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed DANSONATE had bled from the offside nostril. In accordance with AR. 53A(7) DANSONATE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a gallop over 1000m in the presence of a steward before being permitted to start again.
Race 2: GALLIPOLI MEDICAL RESEARCH FOUNDATION CLASS 6
PLATE - 2200m
1st – Contract Caterer 2nd – Dodging Eddie 3rd – Mukaddamah Son 4th – Break The Ice

LOHAN (G. Cooksley) and MURRUMBA DOWNS (M. Vance) hung in when placed under pressure in the straight.
K. Wharton, the rider of MUKADDAMAH SON, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in a short distance after passing the winning post on the first occasion when insufficiently clear of LOVES A CHALLENGE, resulting in LOVES A CHALLENGE and CARN (J. Taylor), which was racing on the inside of LOVES A CHALLENGE, being severely crowded for room, coming into contact, and both horses becoming unbalanced. Jockey Wharton’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 5 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday, 22 April, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 29 April 2012. In determining penalty, stewards acknowledged jockey Wharton’s exemplary record in relation to this rule and the degree of interference caused to LOVES A CHALLENGE and CARN.
Jockey L. Cassidy reported that SAM’S TOWN raced fiercely through the early and middle stages and he suggested to connections that the blinkers be removed for its next start.
A post-race veterinary examination revealed that MURRUMBA DOWNS broke down in the near fore tendon. Trainer B. Baldwin was advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced prior to the horse’s next start.
C. Munce, the rider of DODGING EDDIE, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) of using the whip in a forehand manner in excess of 5 times prior to the 100m and was fined $500.

1st – Metallurgical 2nd – Carry Me Bluey 3rd – Gundy Son 4th – Fillydelphia
The start of this race was delayed when LISTEN SON (G. Cooksley), which cast its off fore plate during its preliminary, received attention from the Club farrier.
Approaching the 200m GENERAL PURPLE (R. Wiggins) was disappointed for a run between LISTEN SON (G. Cooksley) and FILLYDELPHIA (J. Byrne). Following this GENERAL PURPLE shifted wider on the track in order to improve but again over the final 150m had difficulty securing clear running.
When asked to explain the performance of MR ARMSTRONG, apprentice T. Bell stated that from a wide barrier, rather than be caught wide in the early stages, he restrained to a rearward position. Following this MR ARMSTRONG travelled well until placed under pressure near the 400m where from that point the gelding was unable to sprint as he expected. Apprentice Bell added that in his opinion the step up in the better class of today’s field may have had a bearing on the horse’s overall performance.
Following the running of this event the track rating was upgraded to DEAD 4 retrospective.
Race 6: AKALAN PROJECTS JUANMO STAKES - 1200m
1st – Risk Aversion 2nd – Funtantes 3rd – Cariad 4th – Dual Chamber
HEART TO FEAR was a late scratching at 9.30 a.m.
The start of this race was delayed when CARIAD (G. Cooksley), which cast its near fore plate during its preliminary, received farrier attention.
CARIAD and NOROCOS (B. Stewart) were tightened for room at the start between VIVA LAS (J. Byrne) and FUNTANTES (G. Colless), both of which shifted ground.
MISS IMAGICA (N. Yamada) and PARIS BLU (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.
WARRIOR GIRL (R. McMahon) hung out throughout the event. Trainer K. Purdy was advised that WARRIOR GIRL must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again. Ms Purdy indicated that WARRIOR GIRL would now be sent for a spell.
Approaching the 800m CARIAD had to be steadied from the heels of ST GERMAINE (D. Browne) and shifted out, resulting in DUAL CHAMBER (E. Wilkinson) being taken wider on the track.
Soon after entering the home straight M. Hellyer (PARIS BLU) dropped his nearside rein and the horse galloped for some distance without the rider’s use of his rein before he regathered.
JUST BEEN LUCKY (T. Bell) was held up for clear running until after passing the 300m.
G. Cooksley, the rider of CARIAD, was reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.
Race 7: MATERNITY AT GREENSLOPES PRIVATE HOSPITAL PRINCESS STAKES – 1600m

ANOTHER SUPERIOR, PLAYTIME, FLYING JET and TOWN DAZZLER (B. Wallace) raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 800m GOLDSLICK (P. Hammersley) shifted out slightly. GRAB THE LOOT (R. McMahon), which was trailing, improved to the inside of GOLDSLICK where there was doubtful room and had to be steadied from the heels of that runner when it shifted back towards the rail.
Over the concluding stages BEVICO GIRL (D. Browne) hung in when placed under pressure.
Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce regarding the performance of URBAN ROCKER. Jockey Munce stated that the filly was not suited to the slow tempo in the early and middle stages and was left flat-footed when the race developed into a sprint home from the 500m. C. Munce added that he was satisfied with the filly’s performance in the home straight as she was able to make up ground over the concluding stages.
Race 8: SPOTLESS MEMBERS’ H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Ginga Dude 2nd – Triple Honour 3rd – Scenic Shot 4th – Streets Away
Correct weight was delayed to afford D. Browne, the rider of 2nd placegetter TRIPLE HONOUR, the opportunity to view the stewards’ patrol footage to determine whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against the winner GINGA DUDE (J. Taylor). After viewing the film with connections of TRIPLE HONOUR, jockey Browne indicated that he did not wish to proceed with lodging an objection and correct was declared on the Judge’s numbers.
SCENIC SHOT (S. Scriven) was slow to begin.
DIAGO (R. McMahon), WARRIOR WITHIN (P. Hammersley), SPECHENKA (J. Byrne) and FANTASTIC BLUE (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.
Leaving the 300m TRIPLE HONOUR attempted a narrow run between GINGA DUDE (J. Taylor) and GAROZZO (B. Stewart) and in doing so made contact with the hind quarters of GAROZZO, resulting in that horse shifting out further tightening running of TRIPLE HONOUR which then became unbalanced for several strides.
C. Munce was afforded the opportunity of explaining the performance of MR LIGHT BLUE. He stated that he intended to ride the horse midfield however, from its difficult barrier, he was obliged to take up a rearward position. Jockey Munce added that approaching the 400m he brought MR LIGHT BLUE wider on the track in search of clear running but from that point onwards had difficulty securing a run in the straight, however MR LIGHT BLUE did not accelerate as expected over the concluding stages.
