Race 1: PMP Class 6 Plate - 1200m
1st – Liesele 2nd – Golden Cash 3rd – Hidden Kisses 4th – Leicester Square
The handicap weight of HIDDEN KISSES was amended to 55.5 kg in lieu of 57 kg acting under AR111A(4). This was advertised through media outlets and via the course broadcast.
KARANJA (J. Byrne) and WAR CHARM (R. Myers) were slow to begin.
Soon after the start, MAGIC TARTAN (R. Wiggins) shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of ONE LICKETY SPLIT (N. Perrett).
Near the 350m, WAR CHARM shifted out to improve and bumped ONE LICKETY SPLIT.
DARTH (D. Green) raced 3 wide throughout.
KARANJA also raced 3 wide for the majority of the race.
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice R. Myers regarding the performance of WAR CHARM. R. Myers stated that WAR CHARM lost ground at the start and as a result settled at the rear of the field. She added that the slow tempo in the middle stages did not suit the gelding and she was of the opinion that WAR CHARM made steady ground in the home straight and was not entirely disappointing.
P. Hammersley, who was dislodged from FELONY FLIGHT on pulling up, was examined by the doctor and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
ONE LICKETY SPLIT lost its near hind plate in running.
Race 2: BOQ New Farm Class 6 Plate – 1805m
1st – Angusroy 2nd – Eureka Jack 3rd – Full Metal Jacket 4th – River Perfume
Connections advised that AFRICAN PRINCE would be ridden in a more forward position today if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
Near the 500m, GOLDEN CYGNET (C. Munce) shifted out around the heels of EQUISSENTIAL (J. Byrne) in order to improve and made contact with FULL METAL JACKET (D. Browne).
KEVEJON (A. Allen) was inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Dead 4 retrospective.
P. Hammersley was asked to explain the disappointing performance of CONTRACT CATERER. He stated that the gelding was having its first run from a let up and from the 800m he was unable to improve his position as he would have liked as EQUISSENTIAL was racing to his outside. He added that again near the 500m his momentum was impeded when awkwardly placed at the heels of AFRICAN PRINCE (R. Wiggins) when that runner weakened. P. Hammersley further stated that following this, CONTRACT CATERER did not quicken under pressure in the home straight and, in his opinion, would take a fitness benefit from today’s race. Trainer B. Hill agreed with jockey Hammersley’s assessment that the gelding would take a fitness benefit from today’s race being first up from a spell and will also be improved racing over a further distance than that of today’s race. A post race veterinary examination of CONTRACT CATERER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
When questioned, D. Browne explained that FULL METAL JACKET never travelled well at any stage throughout, adding that he had to ride aggressively near the 1100m to clear EQUISSENTIAL and then was forced to race wide for the majority of the race. He added however the gelding commenced to weaken from the 700m and did not respond to his riding from that point. A post race veterinary examination of FULL METAL JACKET failed to reveal any significant abnormalities failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
R. Wiggins reported that AFRICAN PRINCE was under pressure to take up a forward position in the early stages and was disappointing when it weakened once placed under pressure from the 600m. He stated he was not entirely comfortable with the gelding’s action from the 600m. A post race veterinary examination of AFRICAN PRINCE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities
T. Bell, rider of EUREKA JACK, was fined $500 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. In assessing penalty stewards took into account T. Bell’s poor record regarding infringements of this rule.
Race 3:BOQ New Farm Class 6 Plate – 1400
1st – Straight 2nd – Night Chills 3rd – Royal Jester 4th – Chilean Plume
ROYAL JESTER (G. Colless) was slow to begin.
EMMZ AMELIA (D. Browne) jumped away awkwardly and contacted the hind quarters of GOOD HUNTING (L. Cassidy).
A short distance later, EMMZ AMELIA was tightened for room between GOOD HUNTING and NGHT CHILLS (J. Byrne), which shifted out abruptly before being corrected.
Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight, STRAIGHT (D. Griffin) was held up when unable to obtain clear running.
Near the 300m, EMMZ AMELIA, when weakening, shifted out away from ROYAL JESTER, which resulted in GET UP GRANDMA (R. Myers) being inconvenienced.
GOOD HUNTING, LOVE SOMEBODY (P. Hammersley), LOVE SHINES (J. Taylor) and CLEAR (A. Allen) raced wide throughout.
CHILEAN PLUME lost its near fore plate in running.
P. Hammersley reported that LOVE SOMEBODY travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages when racing 3 wide with cover, however when NIGHT CHILLS (J. Byrne) which was racing to his inside near the 500m, made contact with his mount, the filly was immediately under pressure and did not respond to his riding.
Race 4:Robert Bax and Associates QTIS 600 2yo Plate - 1400m
1st – Saluter 2nd – Discreet 3rd – Caliente 4th - Fantisha
Trainer D. Bougoure was fined $200 for failing to declare a rider for GAYDECEIVER by the prescribed time.
Upon arrival at the barriers, GO THIAGO GO (E. Wilkinson) was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the request of its rider and was cleared to start.
COMPLETE SECRET (N. Perrett) began awkwardly and lost ground.
Soon after the start, EASYAYE (J. Taylor) shifted out and made heavy contact with SALUTER (D. Browne).
Near the 1200m, CALIENTE (L. Cassidy), which was shifting in to obtain a position closer to the fence, struck the heels of GREENWOOD ECHO (R. Myers) which, when racing greenly, shifted out across the heels of GAY DECEIVER (M. Vance) despite the efforts of R. Myers, rider of GREENWOOD ECHO. Stewards were satisfied that the racing manners of GREENWOOD ECHO were the major contributing factors to this incident and took no direct action.
EASYAYE, when overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of SALUTER near the 1000m.
MAFIA PRINCESS (S. Galloway) raced 3 wide in the early and middle stages.
Rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight until near the 300m, CALIENTE (L. Cassidy) was held up and unable to improve.
In the early part of the home straight, T. Bell, rider of OBLIVIATE, dropped his off-side rein for a short distance.
GREENWOOD ECHO (R. Myers) hung out when placed under pressure over the final 400m.
OBLIVIATE (T. Bell), FALLFORME (J. Byrne) and GREENWOOD ECHO (R. Myers) raced wide throughout.
COMPLETE SECRET lost its near hind plate in running.
Race 5: HLB Mann Judd Benchmark 85 H'cap - 1500m
1st – Fire Up Fifi 2nd – Hour Of Peril 3rd – Emmertt 4th – Strumming
Connections advised that from the wide barrier BIANCA JEWEL will be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. After being ridden aggressively from the barrier, BIANCA JEWEL was unable to muster the necessary speed to take up a forward position and as a result settled towards the rear of the field.
DEACON (L. Cassidy) overraced in the early stages and near he 1300m had to be restrained from the heels of OUR STAWELL GIFT (R. Myers) and soon after was again restrained from the heels of FIRE UP FIFI (R. Hurdle).
FALINO (J. Byrne) when overracing near the 1000m, was steadied from the heels of DUSTY GOLD (M. Vance) and as a result shifted out and became awkward at the heels of DEACON.
Near the 450m, OUR STAWELL GIFT was tightened for room by FIRE UP FIFI, which shifted in slightly.
Leaving the 300m, ST.GERMAINE (A.Allen) had to be eased when tightened for room between FALINO and DEACON which shifted out under pressure. L.Cassidy was issued with a reprimand and advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts on a straight course in the future.
OUR STAWELL GIFT was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
When asked to explain the performance of BIANCA JEWEL, rider R. Wiggins stated that the intentioned was to ride the mare in a forward position today but after riding his mount with vigour for some distance after the start, BIANCA JEWEL was unable to muster the necessary speed and settled towards the rear of the field. He added that the mare never travelled comfortably from that point and proved disappointing. Trainer S. O’Dea indicated that the mare would now be retired from racing. A post race veterinary examination of BIANCA JEWEL failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
A. Butler, rider of EMMERTT, was fined $200 for failing to ride his mount right out to the finish of the race. When assessing penalty, stewards were satisfied that his actions did not materially effect the placings in the race.
Race 6: BMAG Queen’s Cup – 3200m
1st – Spechenka 2nd – Maythehorsebemagic 3rd – Fantastic Blue 4th – Count Encosta
FANTASTIC BLUE (T. Bell) was slow to begin.
Stewards sought an explanation from C. Munce regarding the performance of BOOMING. He stated that the gelding raced keenly in the early and middle stages due to the lack of genuine speed, although from the 600m it travelled comfortably into the race until placed under pressure soon after straightening, however failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. C. Munce further stated that the horse may have come to the end of its current racing preparation and may be feeling the effects of recent racing.
R. Wiggins, rider of the winner, SPECHENKA, was fined $200 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
Race 7: PMP Ascot H'cap - 1200m
1st – Adnocon 2nd – The Sixties 3rd – Bold Glance 4th – Dalzar
During its preliminary, AUDACIOUS SPIRIT cast its off fore plate and upon arrival at the barriers the farrier attempted to replate AUDACIOUS SPIRIT, however due to the horse’s behaviour, the plate was unable to be reattached and as a result stewards ordered the withdrawal of AUDACIOUS SPIRIT at 3.49 pm, with the following deductions applicable:
27 cents in the dollar for the winner of Adnocon
16 cents in the dollar for place of winner Adnocon
22 cents in the dollar for 2nd place The Sixties
25 cents in the dollar for 3rd place Bold Gland
HOW MUCH MY LOVE (C. Munce) was slow to begin.
In the middle stages, HAVATRYST (L. Cassidy) raced fiercely and had to be restrained from the heels of THE SIXTIES (M. Hellyer) on a number of occasions.
BOLD GLANCE was held up when unable to secure clear running rounding the home turn and in the home straight and had to be steadied near the 200m when attempting a run where there was insufficient room between HOW MUCH MY LOVE and CONVICTOR.
Race 8: Fergies Prin & QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1400m
1st – Divine City 2nd – Revitalise 3rd – Black Magic 4th – Iking
DANISH WHISKEY (C. Munce), ABASALON (E. Wilkinson) and BLACK MAGIC (J. Ford) were slow to begin.
VIKING HEART (G. Colless) raced fiercely in the early stages and raced 3 wide throughout.
When the pace steadied passing the 1000m, DIVINE CITY (A. Allen) improved up on to the heels of LE NIZAM (L. Cassidy) and shifted out, hampering ABSALON.
VOLKHERE (P. Hammersley) was held up when unable to secure a clear run in the home straight until near the 150m.
DANISH WHISKEY hung out badly from the 1000m and proved difficult to ride. Trainer L. Birchley was advised that the filly must compete in an official barrier trial before being permitted to race again. A post race veterinary examination of DANISH WHISKEY failed to reveal any abnormalities.
