From QTC, 20.7.12 - Race 8
Stewards today contacted trainer K. Wood regarding the performance and post-race recovery of BELTONE. Mr Wood advised that BELTONE pulled up well after the event, however recent runs on heavy rain affected tracks had taken its toll on BELTONE, and it was his intention now to send the horse for a spell.

The start of the race was further delayed as a result of ONE LAST WHIFF being examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers after blood was detected in the filly’s mouth. ONE LAST WHIFF was subsequently cleared to start.
BRILLIANT FACETS (G. Colless), BE MY LOVE (M. Gray) and LIFTING BENNY (B. Hull) began awkwardly.
DON’TCRYARGENTINA (R. Goltz) and WEILMORINGLE (L. Cassidy) made contact on jumping away.

DON’TCRYARGENTINA had a tendency to lay in for the majority of the race and approaching the 400m had to be steadied after laying in across the heels of WEILMORINGLE.
ONE LAST WHIFF (C. Munce) had a tendency to hang out for the majority of the race, resulting in the horse racing wide rounding the home turn.
WEILMORINGLE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight.

PRETTY FACT (R. Wiggins) was slow to begin.
Near the 700m, CRAIGLEA TEQUILA and WINALONE were tightened for room when racing to the inside of LADY OF CAPRI (T. Bell) and FAVCO. At a subsequent inquiry, J. Byrne, rider of FAVCO pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a), in that approaching the 700m he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of LADY OF CAPRI, resulting in that horse shifting in, tightening the running of WIN ALONE and CRAIGLEA TEQUILA. J. Byrne was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 29 July and to expire at midnight, 8 August.
LADY OF CAPRI had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the straight, and approaching the 300m shifted out from the heels of STYLE MUSIC (M. Hellyer) and in doing so bumped FAVCO.

LEGAL TENDER and ASTRIEGE (G. Colless) raced wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the below market expectation performance of WRITTENINTHEERAIN, trainer L. Wheeler was of the view that the gelding failed to handle today’s prevailing track conditions.

TABASSI was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and until leaving the 200m, when shifting out around the heels of FLINDERS COMMAND (T. Harrison), TABASSI made heavy contact with ROMAN MATCH (J. Byrne), causing J. Byrne, rider of ROMAN MATCH, to become unbalanced for a short distance. G. Colless, rider of TABASSI, was reprimanded for the manner in which he shifted ground at that point.
