Stewards questioned jockey M. Cahill, rider of GIBBERER, regarding ACCIDENTAL being able to obtain a run to the inside of his mount rounding the home turn. M. Cahill explained that he was concerned with RIP RIP WOODCHIP, which he was trailing, leading up to that point as it had a tendency to shift ground both inwards and outwards, and approaching the home turn it was the intention to move to the outside of RIP RIP WOODCHIP, however when that horse shifted wider, he elected to take a run to the inside but had to ease when RIP RIP WOODCHIP shifted back in, enabling ACCIDENTAL to improve forward of him and obtain a run to his inside. Stewards noted the explanation. Jockey Cahill further advised stewards he was disappointed with the finishing effort of GIBBERER in the straight.

Stewards today questioned L. Cassidy regarding the performance of ACCIDENTAL as compared to its unplaced run at the Gold Coast on 2 August. He further explained it was the intention today to lead on ACCIDENTAL in view of the way the horse began at the Gold Coast, however today after beginning well it was crossed by other runners and settled in a trailing position behind the leaders. L. Cassidy also stated that ACCIDENTAL again had a tendency to lay out and as a result made contact on a number of occasions with GIBBERER during the running of the event.
