Supplementary Report

From Eagle Farm, 31.10.12 – Race 3

Trainer H. Wilson was questioned regarding the tactics adopted by apprentice T. Harrison on the mare Vortex as compared to its previous start at Eagle Farm on 17 October. Mr Wilson stated that in the small field he advised Miss Harrison to ride the mare quietly as he was of the opinion that the mare is unsuited when ridden near the lead and had given those instructions previously. Whilst no action was taken against Mr Wilson he was advised that he must at all times advise of any change of instructions in future for his runners.

Race 1: PC Graphic Art – Always A Winner! QTIS 2yo Fillies Maiden H'cap - 1000m
1st – Missy Longstocking 2nd – Moroccan Rose 3rd – One Eat One 4th – Moon Candy

MOROCCAN ROSE (J. Lloyd) was slow to begin.

MOON CANDY (G. Colless), when racing greenly, was steadied from the heels of MOROCCAN ROSE near the 600m and shifted out.

MOON CANDY was inclined to lay in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.

Race 2: Rochele Painting Open H'cap - 2200m
1st – Marked 2nd – Bid Spotter 3rd – Topping 4th - Rothera

Trainer B. Smith informed stewards he advised Racing Queensland of a change of tactics for ROTHERA earlier this week. Notification of this change was given after the required time today that the gelding would be ridden well back in the field. Stewards will confirm this notification by Mr Smith.

After passing the 1200m, ATTICA (T. Harrison), when overracing, improved to the inside of the heels of TOPPING (R. McMahon) where there was insufficient room and as a result had to be steadied from that runner’s heels.

R. McMahon, rider of the 3rd placegetter, TOPPING, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish of the race.

Race 3: Mount Alvernia College Class 6 H'cap - 1600m
1st – Billy Aucash 2nd – Cyclone Al 3rd – Blow A Kiss 4th – Red God

As G. Colless was to be overweight, J. Lloyd was substituted as the rider of SHOCKING BLUE. G. Colless was fined $200.

Connections advised that RED GOD was to be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. RED GOD settled in a handy position with cover.

Rounding the home turn, BILLY AUCASH (R. Wiggins) was unable to secure clear running.

Stewards sought an explanation from R. Hurdle regarding the riding tactics adopted on BLOW A KISS, particularly in the early and middle stages where, when racing 3 wide, he was obliged to do a significant amount of work to obtain a position outside the leader, ON FACE VALUE, near the 700m. R. Hurdle stated that he was instructed to ride BLOW A KISS in a forward position, and when racing 3 wide after passing the 1200m he elected to ride forward in an attempt to cross DIENEKES (R. Myers), which was made more difficult by virtue of DIENEKES overracing and holding a position to his inside for some distance. Stewards accepted the explanation of apprentice R. Hurdle.

Apprentice T. Harrison reported that ON FACE VALUE was pressured for the lead in the middle stages but was not travelling well after passing the 500m and weakened in the home straight. She added that after passing the winning post, ON FACE VALUE seemed to be short in its action. A post race veterinary examination of ON FACE VALUE did not reveal any significant findings. Stewards will interview trainer Mr B. Laming regarding the performance of ON FACE VALUE.

Race 4: Little Fish Swim School Quality H'cap - 1400m
1st – Biggles 2nd – Jet Style 3rd – Count Encosta 4th – Morning Captain

Connections advised that FILLYDELPHIA would be ridden in a quiet manner from the wide gate. The horse was ridden accordingly.

FILLYDELPHIA (D. Browne) overraced in the early stages and approaching the 1000m improved up on to the heels of MR LIGHT BLUE (J. Lloyd) and shifted out and raced 3 wide from that point.

R. Myers, rider of ST GERMAINE, pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that she failed to make sufficient effort to prevent her mount shifting in near the 1200m, and as a result of that inward shift has taken TISANI BOY in across the running of MORNING CAPTAIN, which had to be checked by its rider when tightened for room between TISANI BOY and JET STYLE (R. Wiggins). After hearing further submissions from apprentice Myers and representative Mr David Murphy, stewards did not sustain the charge when they could not be comfortably satisfied that after being crossed by BIGGLES (G. Cooksley) prior to the incident that the racing manners of ST GERMAINE did not contribute to the interference sustained by TISANI BOY and MORNING CAPTAIN. After being checked, MR LIGHT BLUE (J. Lloyd) and PEPPERWOOD, which were following, also had to be checked as a consequence.

TISANI BOY (P. Hammersley) had to be steadied from the heels of ST GERMAINE (R. Myers) near the 1000m and shifted out. This allowed MORNING CAPTAIN (R. McMahon) to improve to the inside of TISANI BOY and as a result TISANI BOY raced 3 wide for the remainder of the event.

Stewards questioned stable representative Ms J. Micallef regarding the performance of BIGGLES today. Miss Micallef explained that BIGGLES had taken a fitness benefit from its first-up performance at Doomben, which was over 1200m and was run in a fast time. She added that BIGGLES was suited over 1400m today and when able to lead and dictate the pace of the race, and although there were no specific instructions to G. Cooksley to lead today, he was able to obtain a position without being pressured.

When asked to explain the disappointing performance of FILLYDELPHIA, D. Browne stated that the mare was unusually fractious behind the barriers today and began awkwardly, throwing its head in the air. He added that FILLYDELPHIA travelled well in the middle stages, however when asked for an effort soon after straightening he immediately became concerned with the action of the mare. A post race veterinary examination of FILLYDELPHIA revealed the mare to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for FILLYDELPHIA prior to its next race start. He indicated he would report the results of veterinary tests he would have carried out in the days following the race.

BIGGLES lost its near hind plate in running.

Race 5: Aitkenvale Family Health Centre NMW H'cap - 1400m
1st – Twin Zero 2nd – Sons Of God 3rd – Busy Doin’ Nothin’ 4th – Gunner Knox

SONS OF GOD (D. Browne) jumped away awkwardly.

DANCEFLOOR PRODIGY, was tightened for room shortly after the start between BUSY DOIN’ NOTHN (A. Mundy) and TWIN ZERO (J. Lloyd), which was taken out by TICKET TO DREAM (R. Wiggins).

After passing the 1200m, JIGSAWS (J. Taylor), when overracing, was steadied from the heels of SIR STANLEY (T. Harrison). DANCEFLOOR PRODIGY (A. Taylor), which was following, also had to be restrained from the heels of of JIGSAWS. This resulted in DANCEFLOOR PRODIGY shifting in and making heavy contact with the running rail.

When being restrained near the 1200m to gain a position one off the fence, SUSASHI (L. Cassidy) raced ungenerously for some distance.

GUNNER KNOX (M. Vance) was held up for clear running in the home straight until approaching the 200m.

SONS OF GOD (D. Browne) also had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight, and near the 300m was obliged to alter course to the outside of TWIN ZERO (J. Lloyd) in order to improve.

TWIN ZERO (J. Lloyd) raced 3 wide throughout without cover.

BLOOMIN TIPSY (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.

G. Colless reported at scale that GOLDEN CASH attempted to buck in the early stages. He added that this resulted in GOLDEN CASH having to work hard to find the lead, which resulted in the horse weakening from the home turn. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that the gelding must compete in official barrier trial prior to racing again.

A post race veterinary examination of GUNNER KNOX revealed soreness in both forelegs. Trainer L. Mayfield-Smith will be advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary clearance for GUNNER KNOX prior to its next.

Race 6: Hillross Montefiore & Co F&M Class 6 Plate - 1200m
1st – Dream’n’ignite 2nd – Purfectress 3rd – Empress Me 4th - Rocksan

ROCKSAN (P. Hammersley) and ZAMBONI (R. McMahon) were slow to begin.

PURFECTRESS jumped away awkwardly.

CLAM CHOWDER (C. Pye) overraced in the middle stages and after passing the 800m improved on to the heels of WELCOME PARADE (R. Myers) and had to be steadied.

ZAMBONI (R. McMahon) was held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the home straight until after passing the 100m. ZAMBONI then altered course to the inside of RAISE UP (D. Browne) in order to improve.

PURFECTRESS (G. Cooksley) had difficulty obtaining clear running in the home straight until near the 300m.

ROCKSAN (P. Hammersley) also was unable to secure clear running until passing the 200m.

CLAM CHOWDER had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight from the 250 until inside the final 100m.

RAISE UP raced wide without cover throughout.

Race 7: Padua College CG&E Class 6 Plate - 1200m
1st – Audacious Spirit 2nd – Balkuin 3rd – Jugahlation 4th – Starlin

Approaching the 1000m, CONROY’S GAP (G. Colless) had to be eased when tightened for room by STARLIN (R. Myers), which was taken in by AUDACIOUS SPIRIT (J. Lloyd).

M. Vance, rider of JUGAHLATION, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 800m she permitted her mount to shift in in when not sufficiently clear of CONROY’S GAP, resulting in CONROY’S GAP being taken in across the running of MAJOR CASH (E. Wilkinson), which had to be checked. M. Vance was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 8 meetings, to commence at midnight, 10 November and to expire at midnight, 23 November 2012.

Near the 500m, CONROY’S GAP (G. Colless) shifted out, resulting in LOCHIEL (R. McMahon) being taken wider on the track.

JUNGLE HEAT (S. Galloway) was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

Near the 100m, TEN SECONDS (B. Stewart) had to be steadied when tightened for room between LOCHIEL and HAMPDEN (L. Cassidy), which shifted out slightly.

VOLUNTARY (J. Taylor) raced 3 wide throughout.

Race 8: TH Cock Electrical and Communications QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1000m
1st – Players Choice 2nd – Saluter 3rd – Big Decision 4th – Masterful Play

After passing the 700m, BIG DECISION (R. McMahon) shifted out, taking SALUTER (D. Browne) out on to SOOKIE (M. Cahill), which was inconvenienced.

Approaching the 500m, KISS MY DRAGON (P. Hammersley) had to be checked when tightened for room had to be checked when tightened for room between SOOKIE (M. Cahill) and SUNSET AFFAIR (J. Lloyd), which shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer G. Heinrich will advised that a warning will be placed on SUNSET AFFAIR regarding its racing manners.

G. Cooksley, ride of SPLENDENT CHOICE, which finished tailed off, reported that the filly appeared to not appreciate the firm surface today and after receiving tightening early, SPLENDENT CHOICE raced greenly from that point onwards. G. Cooksley added that he recommended to connections to add blinkers to the filly’s gear and to step SPENDENT CHOICE up in distance for its next race start. A post race veterinary examination of SPLENDENT CHOICE revealed the horse to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer T. Thomas was. advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for SPENDENT CHOICE prior to its next race start.
