SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Arising out of a number of stable inspections conducted by stewards throughout the day –

Trainer T. Gollan was reprimanded for not having a therapeutic substance labelled in accordance with relevant legislation (AR. 80E(1)). In determining penalty, stewards took into account that Mr Gollan was acting on the advice of his veterinary surgeon.

Trainer L. Birchley was questioned regarding the presence of two empty syringes in the vicinity of the stable of SNIPZU and WRITE CHEEK. After taking initial evidence, stewards adjourned the inquiry to allow for the results of analytical tests conducted on the syringes. Urine samples were taken from both SNIPZU and WRITE CHEEK.

From Gold Coast – Race 5: Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer T. Thomas for the late scratching of SPLENDENT CHOICE.

Race 1: 100% CHARITY/0% ADMIN QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1200m
1st – Choose A Saga 2nd – Architect 3rd – Notabitofwhite 4th – Choisenegger

PINE ISLAND (T. Harrison) shifted out at the start and bumped CHOOSE A SAGA (E. Wilkinson).

ARCHITECT (M. Hellyer) overraced in the early stages.

PINE ISLAND raced three wide throughout.

Near the 500m ARCHITECT shifted out around the heels of NOTABITOFWHITE (R. Myers) in order to improve, resulting in PINE ISLAND being taken wider.

JETEYE WARRIOR (M. Cahill) raced greenly throughout and after passing the 400m shifted out inconveniencing CHOISENEGGER (D. Browne).

ARCHITECT was inclined to hang in under pressure over the final 300m.

CHOOSE A SAGA shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.

Jockey D. Browne, rider of favourite CHOISENEGGER, reported that the horse dwelt at the start and lost ground. He further informed stewards that he anticipated positioning the horse midfield, however he was caught three wide outside of JETEYE WARRIOR and CHOISENEGGER commenced to hang out. Jockey Browne added that he then elected to restrain the horse to a trailing position in order to give CHOISENEGGER something to follow into the race. He further added that the horse travelled quite well during the middle stages but did not accelerate in the straight as it had at its most previous start. He said that the horse raced very greenly today and he felt that the addition of blinkers may assist to have the horse concentrate on its racing. Trainer J. McLachlan informed stewards that the was not surprised to see the horse take up a rearward position as it had not shown him during training that it possessed any early gate speed. Mr McLachlan concurred with jockey Browne and informed stewards that he would consider applying blinkers to CHOISENEGGER at its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination of CHOISENEGGER revealed no significant findings.

A post-race veterinary examination of ARCHITECT revealed no abnormalities.

Race 2: DGL QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1600m
1st – Heza Jetsetter 2nd – Allknight Saint 3rd – Mishani Stealth 4th – Argie’s Heart

CABALLO RAPIDO (M. Cahill) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with the hind quarters of ARGIE’S HEART (T. Bell).

Shortly after the start RED FACE (R. Myers) shifted out away from LINVILLE (J. Lloyd) and bumped heavily with BINGO BOBBY (J. Taylor).

BINGO BOBBY overraced in the early stages.

MISHANI STEALTH (B. Stewart) was unable to secure clear running in the home straight until passing the 250m.

Apprentice T. Harrison, reported that she had to stop riding and straighten HI SON on several occasions down the straight when it had a tendency to shift its ground.

When asked to explain the seemingly poor performance of HI SON, apprentice T. Harrison stated that she was obliged to settle the horse towards the rear of the field when trapped wide from a difficult barrier and after having done so HI SON commenced to overrace and continued to overrace through the middle stages, and when TOP RADA (G. Goold) shifted out passing the 500m taking HI SON wider on the track, HI SON became unbalanced and hung out. Apprentice Harrison added that she was of the view that the horse’s tendency to overrace for a major portion of the event, and the contact from TOP RADA on entering the home straight unbalancing the horse, were contributors to the horse’s seemingly poor performance. Apprentice G. Goold was reprimanded for the manner in which he shifted out and bumped HI SON passing the 500m.

Race 3: KING & CO CLASS 6 H’CAP - 2134m
1st – Anagold 2nd – Dolly Dolly 3rd – Rhetoric 4th – Mukaddamah Son

The start of this race was delayed when MUKADDAMAH SON required farrier attention after arriving at the barriers.

BUSINESS DAY (M. Cahill) stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost ground. After hearing submissions from stable representative Mr B. Killion, stewards placed a warning on the mare in respect of its barrier manners.

A post-race veterinary examination of BUSINESS DAY revealed the filly to be lame in both forelegs. Trainer J. Thompson’s stable representative will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required prior to the horse’s next start.
Stewards questioned L. Cassidy regarding the tactics adopted on EXCELLENT AL when he was obliged to race three wide in the early stages, in particular the reason he persisted with a forward move from the 1500m to a point where he was challenging for the lead approaching the 1200m. Jockey Cassidy explained that at its previous starts EXCELLENT AL has not begun well from the barrier which resulted in the horse settling towards the rear of the field. Accordingly, L. Cassidy said that he rode EXCELLENT AL with some vigour from the barrier stalls today with a view to settling in a midfield position with cover. He added that when he was three wide going out of the front straight he considered restraining EXCELLENT AL back in an endeavour to gain a position closer to the fence, however he believed he would have to go back to the rear of the field to achieve this and therefore, when the pace slackened near the 1600m, he commenced a forward move and attempted to gain a position one off trailing PUTYOURFAITHINME (E. Wilkinson). Jockey Cassidy said he was unable to secure this position by virtue of apprentice R. Myers (DOLLY DOLLY) applying pressure to her mount which prevented him from obtaining cover at that point. L. Cassidy further stated that following this he made the decision to improve forward around PUTYOURFAITHINME to obtain the lead or race outside the leader. Jockey Cassidy acknowledged in hindsight, given the horse’s racing pattern, that it may have been a better option for him to settle the horse and have it racing comfortably in a midfield position three wide. Trainer L. Treloar was disappointed with the tactics adopted and agreed that it would have been a much better option to remain midfield three wide. Stewards were of the opinion that jockey Cassidy had erred in persisting with a forward move in the back straight but were of the opinion that this error did not amount to a breach of the rules.

Race 4: LINCOM 1MW H’CAP - 1400m
1st – Sons Of God 2nd – Keep It Moist 3rd – Telesto Warrior 4th – O’grady

As R. McMahon was to be overweight, J. Taylor was substituted as the rider of KEEP IT MOIST. R. McMahon was fined $200.

PREACHER BOY (T. Harrison) and TELESTO WARRIOR (C. Munce) made contact on jumping away.

KEEP IT MOIST (J. Taylor) overraced in the early stages.

TWIN ZERO (J. Lloyd) raced three wide throughout.

O’GRADY (G. Cooksley) overraced in the middle stages.

A post-race veterinary examination of TWIN ZERO revealed the gelding to be lame in both forelegs. A veterinary certificate of fitness for TWIN ZERO will be required before the horse again races.

Stewards sought an explanation from trainer R. Milne in respect to the poor performance of PREACHER BOY. Mr Milne stated that he was disappointed in the gelding’s effort today and informed stewards that several of his runners in recent times had performed disappointingly and whilst PREACHER BOY had shown no signs of illness and had worked well leading up to today’s event, he intended to conduct blood tests on several of his runners to establish whether his stable has a virus that may be affecting his horses.

Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to GOOD 3 retrospective.

Race 5: DGL MODE PLATE - 1200m
1st – Caliente 2nd – Sookie 3rd – Write Cheek 4th – Tiger Dimejan

Trainer M. Thexton was fined $200 for failing to declare B. Stewart as the rider of STOLEN KISSES by the prescribed time.

Connections advised that LADY COLOURS (L. Cassidy) would be ridden back off the pace if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.

ZIPPITY LASS (J. Lloyd) shifted out abruptly at the start, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced in the saddle.

ELLAWISDOM (G. Cooksley) was slow to begin.

A short distance after the start SISTER EMMA (J. Byrne) had to be steadied from the heels of SPLENDENT CHOICE (M. Hellyer), which shifted out away from TIGER DIMEJAN (R. McMahon).

Near the 1000m LADY COLOURS and SISTER EMMA were tightened for room by DANSAL (J. Taylor), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

SNIPZU (G. Colless), SPLENDENT CHOICE, LADY COLOURS, DANSAL and STOLEN KISSES (B. Stewart) all raced wide throughout.

R. McMahon (TIER DIMEJAN) was issued with a reprimand for permitting his mount to shift in passing the 600m, tightening the running of ELLAWISDOM, which had to be steadied.

Near the 350m SISTER EMMA was inconvenienced by SPLENDENT CHOICE, which shifted in under pressure.

In the early part of the home straight STOLEN KISSES was disappointed for clear running.

Near the 200m ZIPPITY LASS, when weakening, shifted in resulting in LADY COLOURS being inconvenienced. J. Lloyd (ZIPPITY LASS) then corrected his mount and it began to shift out under pressure which resulted in AVALADYLUCK (A. Coome), which was following and improving into the race, having to be steadied from the heels of ZIPPITY LASS and alter course to the inside of that runner. ZIPPITY LASS continued to shift out under pressure despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in ZEROCITY (E. Wilkinson) having to be steadied near the 100m.

DANSAL was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

P. Hammersley (CALIENTE) was fined $200 under AR. 137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to reaching the winning post.

As L. Cassidy was stood down from remaining engagements by the Club doctor, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 6: CONCRIB BENCHMARK 90 H’CAP - 1000m
1st – Last Gift 2nd – G’day Old Mate 3rd – Delago Bolt 4th – Jasminka

Following the running of Race 5, trainer B. Baldwin advised stewards that he had been treating HAVATRYST for a respiratory complaint. Public announcements were made to this effect. Mr Baldwin was reprimanded under AR. 140(a) for failing to advise stewards as soon as practicable of any condition or occurrence that may affect a horse’s running in the race.

FLEET ‘N’ FAST (G. Killen) was slow to begin.

DELAGO BOLT (J. Byrne), SIGNIFIED (R. Myers) and HAVATRYST (M. Cahill) raced wide throughout.

JOPA (G. Cooksley) was held up on the heels of STARLIN (T. Harrison) for some distance approaching and passing the 200m.

B. Stewart (G’DAY OLD MATE) dropped his whip at the 200m.

Race 7: ZIG ZAG FOUNDATION GEORGE MOORE STAKES - 1200m
1st – Startsmeup 2nd – Phelan Ready 3rd – Morning Captain 4th – Audacious Spirit

Connections advised that from the wide barrier it would be the intention to have EXCELLANTES (R. Wiggins) ridden with cover. The horse was ridden accordingly.

Correct weight was delayed to provide D. Browne, the rider of 2nd placegetter PHELAN READY, the opportunity of viewing the photo finish. After viewing the photo finish, jockey Browne indicated that he agree with the Judge’s placings and correct weight was declared.

ADEBISI (M. Cahill) and EMMERTT (M. Hellyer) made contact at the start.

JUGAHLATION (R. Myers) jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and hampered PHELAN READY (D. Browne).

Near the 1000m OLLIE VOLLIE (T. Bell) had to be eased when tightened for room by JUGAHLATION which was taken in slightly by AUDACIOUS SPIRIT (J. Lloyd).

CELTIC DANCER (G. Cooksley) and EMMERTT raced wide throughout.

C. Munce, the rider of BELLTONE, which performed below market expectation, reported that the horse did not travel comfortably during the early and middle stages and he had to constantly urge the horse forward in the early and middle stages just to hold a position. Jockey Munce stated that the horse did not accelerate in the straight and proved very disappointing.

R. Wiggins reported that from the wide barrier and in consideration of the other pace in the race, the decision was made to ride EXCELLANTES with cover. Jockey Wiggins stated that the horse was a little slowly away, which resulted in it settling further back than he would have liked. He said that nevertheless EXCELLANTES did not accelerate in the straight and proved very disappointing. Trainer R. Heathcote informed stewards that the horse would be sent for a spell.

Race 8: KS EASTER GROUP CLASS 6 PLATE - 200m
1st – Longshoreman 2nd – Spinhro 3rd – Commandare 4th – Double Impact

EASY LAGER (G. Cooksley) knuckled at the start.

EASY LAGER and AROUND THE WORLD (M. Hellyer) raced wide throughout.

LONGSHOREMAN (R. McMahon) had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight and approaching the 200m had to alter course to the outside of the heels of SPINHRO (P. Hammersley) in order to improve.

M. Hellyer, the rider of AROUND THE WORLD, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in leaving the 250m when not clear of DOUBLE IMPACT (E. Wilkinson), resulting in that runner being taken in on to SOMEDAY (C. Munce), which had to be checked when forced across the heels of MERRYANNA (T. Bell). Jockey Hellyer’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday, 15 December, and expire at midnight on Friday, 29 December 2012. In assessing penalty, stewards acknowledged jockey Hellyer’s exemplary race riding record in that he had not been suspended for 10 months and during that period of time had ridden in 518 races, and the fact that the severity of the interference was, in the opinion of the stewards, compounded by the racing manners of DOUBLE IMPACT. Following SOMEDAY being severely checked, C. Munce advised that he had concerns for the welfare of the gelding and as a result did not ride the horse out to the end of the race. In the circumstances stewards accepted the explanation of jockey Munce.
