Race 1: Cyril Gilbert OAM Class 6 H'cap - 1400m
Connections advised that EPIC would be ridden behind the leaders with cover if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, EPIC was ridden at the tail of the field.
HEATER (G. Colless) and EPIC (M. Cahill) were slow to begin.
Approaching and passing the 1100m, PROST (K. Matheson), when overracing, had to be restrained from the heels of KUMALI (P. Schmidt). PROST continued to overrace for some distance following this incident.
Near the 400m, TAIL AND ALL (R. Wiggins) shifted out and brushed KUMALI.
PROST was held up for clear running in the early part of the straight until passing the 300m.
ASSIMILATOR (A. Allen), SKATING AWAY (E. Wilkinson) raced 3 wide throughout.
E. Wilkinson reported that SKATING AWAY travelled reasonably well with cover, however from the 600m did not respond as anticipated and, in his opinion, he felt the horse may be looking for further. Trainer D. Bell was slightly disappointed with the performance of SKATING AWAY and agreed with jockey Wilkinson's assessment that the horse would appreciate stepping up in distance. A post race veterinary examination of SKATING AWAY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Stewards sought an explanation from apprentice A. Allen, rider of ASSIMILATOR, regarding the circumstances that resulted in him racing 3 wide for the final 1100m after starting from barrier 2. Apprentice Allen explained that in the early stages he had a comfortable trailing position behind KUMALI, however PROST commenced to overrace to his inside and shifted out to a one-wide position, which resulted in him being forced 3 wide. Following this he elected to attempt to get ASSIMILATOR striding comfortably rather than having to ride aggressively to improve forward. Stewards accepted A. Allen's explanation.
Trainer W. Baker was advised that MR TRACEY, which raced uncompetitively would now be ineligible to compete at metropolitan venues until it established competitive form in the provincial area.
Race 2: Sue Feeney Memorial Class 6 H'cap - 1400m
ANAGOLD (K. Matheson) was slow to begin.
STEEP (R. Wiggins) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, making heavy contact with ALCANCIA (M. Cahill), taking that runner outwards, resulting in VACALLO (B. Stewart) and LITTLE BROWN HORSE (J. Byrne) being hampered.
Stewards sought an explanation from B. Stewart regarding his riding of VACALLO, particularly his decision to shift to the running rail near the 1000m rather than maintaining a trailing position on ALCANCIA (M. Cahill), and also the vigour he exhibited between the 400m and the 200m. B. Stewart stated that he was issued with no specific instructions, and after being hampered at the start, this resulted in him settling further back than anticipated, and near the 1200m, when racing 3 wide outside of ALCANCIA, he elected to restrain VACALLO and cross to the rail in an attempt to get the gelding to settle. He added that he was riding VACALLO on a long rein and soon after straightening he gathered up and then placed VACALLO under pressure. Jockey Stewart went on to say that ALCANIA sprinted better than his mount in the early part of the straight, adding that VACALLO took some time when asked for its effort. Stewards accepted the explanation provided by jockey Stewart but informed him that he must ride his mounts in a fashion that does not leave him open to question in future.
VACALLO returned to scale with blood in the off-side nostril and mouth. Stewards were satisfied after consulting with the veterinary surgeon that this was due to trauma when VACALLO was fractious in the barriers and no direct action was taken.
Race 3: Gallipoli Medical research Foundation QTIS 2yo H'cap - 1000m
Stewards questioned trainer T. Cotsiopoulos after stewards, whose duties were to conduct stable and gear inspections at today's meeting, identified what appeared to be a puncture mark on the near-side neck of PETRANI, which was engaged in Race 3. After taking evidence from Ms Cotsiopoulos and RQL veterinary surgeon Dr M. Lenz stewards could not be satisfied that PETRANI had been treated on race day and permitted the filly to start. Stewards obtained the treatment records of Ms Cotsiopoulos and advised her that the matter would be adjourned until after the results of swab samples taken from the filly are known.
The start of this race was delayed when ROSE OF KENFAIR had to be resaddled after arriving at the barriers.
ROSE OF KENFAIR (P. Schmidt) jumped outwards at the start and bumped MARACOOLA (E. Wilkinson).
PETRANI (K. Wharton) was slow to begin and then shifted in towards the running rail soon after the start and when being corrected became unbalanced and lost considerable ground. Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of PETRANI.
Passing the 700m, ROSE OF KENFAIR had to be checked to avoid the heels of FORELOCK (G. Cooksley), which hung in despite the efforts of its rider. Trainer J. Morrisey was advised that a warning would be placed on FORELOCK regarding its racing manners.
Near the 500m, TOTAL AUTHORITY (L. Cassidy) shifted in and made contact with the hind quarters of MARACOOLA.
OCTANE FLYER (R. McMahon) was held up in the early part of the straight when placed awkwardly at the heels of MARACOOLA.
Leaving the 300m, OCTANE FLYER shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so came into contact with TOTAL AUTHORITY, resulting in TOTAL AUTHORITY becoming unbalanced. Jockey L. Cassidy, rider of TOTAL AUTHORITY, became momentarily unbalanced. After taking into account the evidence of both riders stewards issued R. McMahon, rider of OCTANE FLYER, with a severe reprimand.
Inside the 200m, SINGLE CHANCE shifted out under pressure. This resulted in LONDEHERO (G. Colless), which was trailing, having to alter course to that horse's inside in order to improve near the 150m.
EASTERN PRINCE (T. Bell), SHAPIN LADY (R. Jamieson) and YOU DID WHAT (M. Hellyer) raced wide for the majority of the race.
SHAPIN LADY (R. Jamieson) was inclined to lay in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
P. Schmidt reported that ROSE OF KENFAIR race very greenly throughout.
Race 4: Ramsay Health Care Benchmark 90 H'cap - 2200m
As K. Matheson was to be overweight, P. Schmidt was substituted as the rider of MAGIC IVY.
MORE MORE MORE (R. Wiggins), MAGIC IVY (P. Schmidt) and COUNT ENCOSTA (J. Byrne) were slow to begin.
Approaching and rounding the home turn, MUKADDAMAH SON (M. Cahill) was held up and unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of MR LIGHT BLUE (T. Bell).
MR LIGHT BLUE lost its near hind plate in running.
Race 5: Greenslopes Maternity Princess Stakes 1600m
After exercising his right to view the concluding stages of the race, M. Hellyer, rider of the 2nd placegetter, CATALONIA, lodged an objection against FANTISHA being declared the winner, alleging interference inside the final 200m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards' patrol video, stewards were of the view that near the 150m FANTISHA and CATALONIA raced in close proximity due to both horses shifting ground. Soon after, FANTISHA had a slight bearing on the racing line of CATALONIA and following this CATALONIA shifted in away from FANTISHA in the run to the finish line. Stewards could not be satisfied that the slight bearing that FANTISHA had on the racing line of CATALONIA approaching the 100m had a material effect on the placings and the protest was subsequently dismissed. Correct weight was also delayed to allow L. Cassidy, rider of the 5th placegetter, GALLINARI to view the photo-finish. The image displayed in the scales area was inconclusive and after stewards consulted with the Judge, they were satisfied with the placings, correct weight was declared on the Judge's placings.
VERALINI (G. Cooksley) and SMILES FOR LAYLA (B. Stewart) were slow to begin.
FIESTY BELLE (K. Matheson) jumped away awkwardly.
Passing the 800m, RARE FRAGRANCE (C. Munce) improved onto the heels of CATALONIA (M. Hellyer) and shifted out when being steadied.
Rounding the home turn, GALLINARI (M. Cahill) was held up and unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of YOUR GIRL OR MINE (E. Wilkinson).
Near the 400m, TAYA (J. Taylor) and RING ME RUBY (R. Wiggins) made heavy contact.
CATALONIA, RARE FRAGRANCE (C. Munce), PLATINUM MINT (R. Jamieson) and FANTISHA (T. Bell) raced 3 wide throughout.
G. Colless reported at scale that VIS A TERGO changed stride near the 250m and became awkward.
Race 6: Greenslopes Emergency Members' H'cap - 1600m
The start of this race was delayed when ROTHERA reared in the barriers, dislodging E. Wilkinson, who was uninjured. ROTHERA was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.
Near the 200m, NEVER FORGET (G. Colless) hung in and became awkwardly placed at the heels of BOREHOLE (J. Byrne).
TOPPING (L. Cassidy) shifted out under pressure after passing the 200m, taking TRANSPORTER (M. Cahill) wider.
GINGA DUDE (J. Taylor) and BOREHOLE (J. Byrne) raced 3 wide throughout.
G. Colless reported that NEVER FORGET did not feel comfortable in its action in the home straight.
E. Wilkinson was examined by the club's doctor following this race and was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
Apprentice K. Matheson reported that POSTE RESANTE laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
Race 7: Adco Mick Dittman Plate - 1000m
HOLY TOLEDO (G. Cooksley) was slow to begin.
SHAMROCK SLIPPER (L. Cassidy) jumped very awkwardly, resulting in L. Cassidy becoming unbalanced in the saddle.
Approaching the 600m, GENERAL JACKSON (B. Stewart) commenced to hang out and had to be checked from the heels of SEEKING MORE (M. Cahill). GENERAL JACKSON continued to hang out badly making the home turn extremely wide on the track. Trainer M. Mair was advised that GENERAL JACKSON must compete in 2 official barrier trials prior to racing again. Mr Mair indicated that GENERAL JACKSON will now be spelled.
Near the 250m, SEEKING MORE shifted out abruptly, resulting in GREAT CHEER (M. Hellyer) having to be steadied and alter course to the inside of SEEKING MORE.
Race 8: APHS Hinkler H’cap - 1200m
TOO MANY REDS (L. Cassidy) was slow to begin.
A short distance after the start, RIVER LAD (E. Wilkinson) shifted out, resulting in KING SAUL (P. Hammersley) being taken out on to TOO MANY REDS, which had to be checked when taken across the heels of LATIN NEWS (B. Stewart).
THE JACKAL (P. Schmidt) and METALLURGICAL (M. Cahill) were hampered at the start when tightened for room between GREEN BIRDIE (K. Wharton), which shifted in, and MR ARMSTRONG (J. Byrne), which shifted out after being bumped by FAMOUS SEAMUS (G. Colless).
For some distance inside the 200m, SIGNIFIED (C. Munce) shifted ground outwards under pressure, resulting in BIGGLES (G. Cooksley) being taken outwards. ARMSTRONG (J. Byrne), which was to the outside of BIGGLES, was forced to alter course to the inside of that horse due to this movement. C. Munce, rider of SIGNIFIED, was reprimanded and advised to stop riding and straighten his mounts when they shift ground.
CELTIC DANCER (K. Matheson), RIVER LAD, LATIN NEWS and TOO MANY REDS raced wide throughout.
UTAH SAINTS lost its near fore plate in running.
Race 9. Greenslopes Private Hospital Juanmo Stakes - 1200m
ALLTHE RIGHTMOVES, which refused to parade to the barriers, was declared a late scratching at 4.40 pm. Connections were advised that ALLTHERIGHTMOVES must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

Due to a technical fault in the Judge's box the photo finish camera was inoperable for this event. Upon review, stewards were satisfied with the placings semaphored by the Judge and correct weight was semaphored.
TOP OF THE ROCK (A. Allen) raced wide in the early stages until a point approaching the 600m.
FIRE UP FIFI (R. Wiggins) raced wide throughout.
G. Colless reported that EVER THE SAME travelled comfortably until placed under pressure soon after straightening and was disappointing in its finishing effort from that stage.
