SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Eagle Farm 8.6.13 - Race 1: Stable representative for Mrs G. Waterhouse reported that COSMIC ENDEAVOUR had undergone a veterinary examination following the race which revealed the filly had pulled up with some lower back soreness and as a consequence would be sent for an immediate spell. The stable was advised that a veterinary clearance for COSMIC ENDEAVOUR would be required prior to its next start.
GENERAL
As B. Stewart and apprentice A. Holt were ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: SIRROMET WINES 2YO F&M MAIDEN H’CAP - 1000m
TELL A STORY (W. O'Connell) was slow to begin.
Leaving the 600m A DEAL OF HONOUR (P. Schmidt) shifted out making contact with TELL A STORY which then shifted out on to the heels of QUEEN CAESAR (J. Byrne) and blundered badly, losing significant ground. In this incident DON ELLA (R. Wiggins), which was racing to the outside, was hampered and forced wider on the track.
M. Cahill reported that LITTLE BIT DITSY raced greenly throughout the event.
R. Wiggins reported that in his opinion DON ELLA did not travel well in the prevailing track conditions.
A post-race veterinary examination of TELL A STORY revealed a laceration to the near fore pastern.
Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to HEAVY 9 retrospective.
Race 2: SKY RACING 2YO C&G MAIDEN H’CAP - 1000m
RUDY (L. Cassidy) had to be checked and lost significant ground as a result when tightened for room at the start between ANOTHER CHOISYN (R. Wiggins) and GOJO MIMO (P. Schmidt), which was taken in by HE DON'T CARE (G. Goold), which jumped away awkwardly.
CHARIOT OF GOLD (C. Munce) and DELASUN (P. Hammersley) raced wide for the majority of the event.
M. Speers, the rider of RUSTY COLOURS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 400m he directed his mount out whilst under heavy riding, making heavy contact with DELASUN, forcing that runner wider on the track, causing it to become unbalanced and lose ground. M. Speers' licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday 16 June and expire at midnight on Thursday 27 June 2013.
ANOTHER CHOISYN was momentarily held up for clear running shortly after entering the home straight.
REGAL CONSERVE (J. Byrne) which shifted out under pressure in the home straight, made contact with DELASUN near the 100m.
CHARIOT OF GOLD shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
When asked to comment on the performance of RUDY, L. Cassidy stated that after receiving interference at the start, the gelding was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages, however was doing its best work over the concluding stages. He added that as the horse has trialled well when leading, he was of the opinion that the gelding was not comfortable racing behind other runners. A post-race veterinary examination of RUDY failed to reveal any abnormalities.
When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance of GOJO MIMO, apprentice P. Schmidt reported that at no stage did the gelding handle the prevailing track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of GOJO MIMO (P. Schmidt) revealed a laceration to the off side cheek, a small laceration to the near hind pastern and a slower than normal post-race recovery rate.
Race 3: COKE ZERO MAIDEN PLATE - 1400m
SHOTOVER RIVER was a late scratching at 7.40 am for veterinary reasons. Connections were advised that a veterinary certificate for SHOTOVER RIVER must be produced prior to its next start.
DECIBEL DAN was a late scratching at 12.50 pm when it failed to arrive on course in time.
The start of this race was delayed when GOLD FLOW (M. Cahill) proved difficult to load. Trainer L. Morton was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding's manners.
RASTEIRA (P. Hammersley) and MORE THAN SUPERB (R. Wiggins) were both slow to begin.
Near the 1300m MISHANI IZMIR (M. Speers), after making contact with GOLD FLOW, shifted out and in doing so hampered RASTEIRA.
Near the 1100m RASTEIRA was forced to race in restricted room and made contact with the running rail when tightened by MISHANI IZMIR which shifted in.
Leaving the 600m MORE THAN SUPERB blundered.
Just prior to the finish line GOLDEN FLOW was struck across the nose by the whip of C. Munce (BANCHORY LASS).
Race 4: WINNING EDGE PRESENTATIONS C,G&E BENCHMARK 80 H’CAP - 1500m
Shortly after the start BUAKAW (C. Munce) shifted out and away from MR TESTA (R. Wiggins), making contact with PEPPERED BLACK (A. Spinks).
MR TESTA had a tendency to lay out throughout the event and laid out significantly under pressure in the home straight.
Apprentice K. Matheson reported that after being slow to begin, VIKING HEART overraced during the early stages and then hung out for the remainder of the event, causing him difficulty in testing the horse over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of VIKING HEART revealed no significant findings and a swab sample was taken.
The veterinary surgeon reported that JACK'S BACK (B. Appo) was lame in the off foreleg post-race. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for JACK'S BACK prior to its next start.
Race 5: BUNDABERG DISTILLING CO F&M BM 80 H’CAP - 1500m
Near the 600m CARESSABLE ONE (T. Bell) was hampered by MATABRAHMA (G. Goold), which shifted out to improve.
THIRSTY FOR BLOOD (R. Wiggins) overraced at the heels of LOVINGTHELIMELIGHT (E. Wilkinson) in the middle stages.
Apprentice G. Goold informed stewards that MATABRAHMA travelled well throughout the event, however when ridden aggressively rounding the home turn the mare failed to respond and in his opinion pulled up distressed. The veterinary surgeon reported that MATABRAHMA coughed several times post-race. Connections were advised that prior to the horse's next start the mare must undergo an endoscopic examination, the results of which are to be forwarded to stewards.
When asked to comment on the performance of CARESSABLE ONE, T. Bell reported that in his opinion the mare was not suited to the slow early tempo set in the race and in his opinion was not comfortable in the prevailing track conditions and may take benefit from the run.
Stewards questioned rider R. Jamieson and trainer H. Norman regarding the tactics adopted on SUZANNE, which appeared to be in contrast to the mare's most recent starts. Mr Norman advised stewards that it had been the stable's intention to ride the horse more forward, however it had not been the intention necessarily to lead. Stewards noted the comments and reminded Mr Norman of his obligations under AR. 135A.
Race 6: GRINDERS CLASS 4 H’CAP - 1000m
HEART OF MELBOURNE (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.
GREAT CHEER (C. Whiteley) hung out throughout the event and in the home straight, resulting in its rider being unable to fully test his mount.
TRILIONE (T. Bell) raced wide throughout.
Race 7: DRUMBEATS @ LYNDHURST CLASS 3 PLATE - 1200m
Connections advised that because they believed there was a lack of pace in the race, THE CRANBERRIES (P. Schmidt) would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permitted. The horse was ridden accordingly.
Apprentice G. Goold reported that it had not been his intention to lead and that he had attempted to obtain cover, however was unable to do so as SPINHRO had a tendency to overrace. He added that in his opinion the horse would have raced better had he been able to obtain cover and the gelding proved disappointing in the run to the line.
Race 8: THE HAMILTON HOTEL QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1200m
INDUBIOUS (M. Cahill), which was slow to begin, shifted out, making contact with AVALADYLUCK (A. Coome), causing both horses to become unbalanced.
Near the 1100m AVALADYLUCK had to be steadied when momentarily tightened for room between THE CONSPIRATOR (K. Matheson) and CHEVAL DU FEU (T. Bell), which shifted in.
Near the 900m THE CONSPIRATOR was steadied when momentarily tightened for room between DANSAL (J. Byrne) and CHEVAL DU FEU, which shifted in.
IONA FAST ONE (C. Munce) hung out from leaving the 800m and virtually took no further competitive part in the event. Trainer B. Herne indicated to stewards that IONA FAST ONE will now be sent for a spell. Stewards advised Mr Herne that IONA FAST ONE would be required to trial prior to its next start.
Rounding the home turn AVALADYLUCK, when attempting a tight run between DANSAL and WRITTEN ELEISON (G. Cooksley), which shifted out, was disappointed for that run, making contact with DANSAL. A short distance later DANSAL, which was inclined to hang in, was obliged to steady from the heels of WRITTEN ELEISON, which continued to shift out to obtain clear running.
Apprentice K. Matheson reported that in his opinion THE CONSPIRATOR did not handle the prevailing track conditions and failed to travel at any point of the event.
T. Bell reported that CHEVAL DU FEU did not travel comfortably in the prevailing track conditions.
M. Cahill reported that INDUBIOUS failed to handle today's track conditions and had a tendency to hang out, and in his opinion proved most disappointing.
