Race 1: Uniform Management Services Open H’cap - 1000m
SARAH'S SON (P. Hammersley) was slow to begin and then blundered.
DELAGO BOLT (A. Allen) was held up rounding the home turn and then shifted out after leaving the 400m to obtain clear running.
SAHAH'S SON lost its off fore plate in running.
Race 2: McGrath Estate Agents Class 6 Plate - 2200m
Shortly after the start, MOMENT TO REMEMBER (A. Butler) shifted out and made heavy contact with AWESOME RANSOM (A. Allen), resulting in AWESOME RANSOM becoming unbalanced and losing its position.
MR TRACEY (M. Hellyer) pulled hard in the early stages.
C. Munce reported that it was his intention to gain cover on FLYING HOME, however when caught wide in the early stages and the pace was only moderate, he elected to ride forward to the lead leaving the 1800m.
RETUNE (P. Hammersley) was held up shortly after entering the straight on the heels of CROSS THE STAR (J. Byrne).
MR TRACEY and CLANGOR (K. Matheson) raced wide throughout.
MOMENT TO REMEMBER raced 3 wide before compounding the home straight. A post race veterinary examination of MOMENT TO REMEMBER failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 3: Madison Cleaning Servics CG&E Class 6 H'cap - 1200m
The start was delayed when SIR LOTTIE required farrier attention at the barriers.
STARSTREAMED (T. Jeffries) was slow to begin.
From the wide barrier, TAIL AND ALL (R. Wiggins) was restrained by its rider to a rearward position to gain a position closer to the fence.
SIR LOTTIE (M. Cahill) overraced in the early stages.
NOOGOORA BURR (A. Spinks) and PALPITATE (A. Allen) raced wide without cover throughout.
When asked to comment on the performance of SIR LOTTIE, M. Cahill reported that the gelding raced ungenerously and did not travel comfortably at any stage throughout the event, adding he was disappointed with the overall performance of the gelding.
Race 4: Jahm QTIS 3yo H'cap - 1300m
MORE ENERGY (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.
ROSEY JOAN (A. Spinks) shifted in at the start and made contact with WILL'S CHOICE (P. Holmes).
Near the 1000m, SEPT DE COEURS (A. Coome), when overracing, had to be restrained from the heels of PRUSSIAN HEART (J. Byrne).
After passing the 1000m, PRUSSIAN HEART, when overracing, had to be steadied from the heels of ROSEY JOAN, which shifted in when not fully clear, and as a result shifted out and made heavy contact with WILL'S CHOICE. A. Spinks, rider of ROSEY JOAN, was issued with a reprimand and advised to afford his fellow riders greater clearance when shifting ground in future. VOODOO BLUE MAGIC (J. Johnson), which was following, had to be steadied away from the heels of WILL'S CHOICE.
CANISBAY (R. McMahon) overraced in the early stages.
After passing the 900m, AQUATOR (A. Allen) commenced to race fiercely and was obliged to shift out to avoid the heels of VOODOO BLUE MAGIC (J. Johnson). AQUATOR raced wide for the remainder of the event.
Near the 700m, VOODOO BLUE MAGIC (J. Johnson) had to be steadied when tightened for room momentarily between CANISBAY and WILL'S CHOICE, which shifted in slightly.
Passing the 200m, FAIRYTALE BELLE (T. Bell) had to be steadied away from the heels of the tiring WILL'S CHOICE (P. Holmes).
A. Allen, rider of the 4th placegetter, AQUATOR, was fined $200 for failing to ride his mount out right to the end of the race. When considering penalty, stewards could not be satisfied that this occurrence had a material effect on the placings.
When asked to explain the performance of WILL'S CHOICE, rider P. Holmes stated that the colt did not appreciate racing in restricted room in the early stages to the inside of ROSEY JOAN, and after being bumped by PRUSSIAN HEART near the 1000m, raced ungenerously for some distance and was then obliged to race 3 wide without cover for the remainder of the race, which, in his view, had a negative effect on the horse's capacity to finish the race off strongly. A post race veterinary examination of WILL'S CHOICE failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
A. Coome reported that SEPT DE COEURS overraced in the early stages and, in his opinion, this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance. He added that the stable had given him the indication that SEPT DE COEURS would now be sent for a spell.
Race 5: Pitcher Partners Benchmark 90 H'cap - 1600m
NOISY OCEAN (J. Johnson), which raced wide in the early stages, was allowed to stride forward by its rider to a position outside the leader near the 1200m.
EXTREME MOVER (S. Bogenhuber) shifted out after passing the 600m and brushed MUKADDAMAH SON (J. Byrne).
ZA MAGIC (R. Wiggins) pulled hard in the in the middle stages.
M. Cahill, rider of FERMENT, was fined $500 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m
A post race veterinary examination of EXTREME MOVER revealed the horse to have bled from both nostrils. Connections were advised that EXTREME MOVER would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months and would be required to trial satisfactorily over 1000m prior to its next race start.
Race 6: St Margaret's Anglican Girls School F&M Class 6 H'cap - 1200m
MISS ORIELLE (R. Wiggins) and FORMAL PRINCESS (A. Spinks) were slow to begin.
R. McMahon, rider of LADY COLOURS, reported at scale that it was his intention to settle in a midfield position with cover, however after beginning a little slowly, this resulted in him settling at the tail of the field.
After leaving the 800m, DON' GET ME RONG (J. Byrne), which was pulling hard, shifted out from behind the heels of DREAM'N'IGNITE (A. Holt), forcing PURE PURRFECTION (M. Cahill) wider.
Passing the 500m, DIVINE CITY (C. Munce) was bumped by AVALADYLUCK (T. Bell) and then had to be steadied from the heels of PURE PURRFECTION (M. Cahill), which shifted in when not fully clear. M. Cahill, rider of PURE PURRFECTION, was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to show greater care when shifting ground in future.
In the early part of the home straight, TICKET TO DREAM (G. Colless) was disappointed for a run between DIVINE CITY (C. Munce) and PURE PURRFECTION (M. Cahill), which shifted out slightly.
Inside the 200m, DON'T GET ME RONG laid in under pressure and brushed DREAM'N'IGNITE.
T. Bell reported at scale AVALADYLUCK was inclined to hang out for a major part of the race. A post race veterinary examination of AVALADYLUCK failed to reveal any significant abnormalities
Race 7: Programmed Property Services F&M Benchmark 75 H'cap - 1500m
Trainer R. Wilson advised that DANSAL would be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. DANSAL subsequently settled midfield. Subsequently, Mr Wilson was reprimanded for late notification of this change of tactics.
PRINCESS LYCA (A. Butler) knuckled at the start.
ELLAWISDOM (A. Taylor) and SANDY VIEW (B. Richardson) were slow to begin.
BARONESS ZEENA (L. Cassidy) shifted out at the start, taking LOHAN (J. Johnson) out on to the hind quarter of GOTITALLWRONG (R. Wiggins), resulting in LOHAN being hampered.
After leaving the 1200m, ELUSIVE STORM (T. Bell) had to be checked away from the heels of CRAZY MAMMA (C. Munce), which after shifting out was taken back in by LOHAN.
DANYME (R. McMahon) was held up rounding the home turn and did not secure clear running until approaching the 200m.
ELUSIVE STORM was held up in the early stages of the home straight behind the tiring LIKE A GEE SIX (A. Holt).
GOTITALLWRONG was also held up until approaching the 200m.
Over the final stages, GOTITALLWRONG and DANSAL (J. Byrne) brushed.
BARONESS ZEENA (L. Cassidy) shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages, inconveniencing DANYME.
LOHAN (J. Johnson) was inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight.
SEA MARVISTA (M. Cahill) raced wide without cover throughout.
PRINCESS LYCA and DANSAL raced wide throughout.
Race 8: RBS Morgans CG&E Benchmark 75 H'cap - 1500m
Trainer R. Heathcote advised that ST ANDREWS would settle in a midfield position with cover if possible. He also informed stewards GOTCHA would also take up a midfield position with cover if possible, adding that it led last start. Both horses raced accordingly.
LITTLE LONG HORN (K. Matheson) raced wide without cover throughout.
After leaving the 1000m, PURE SHORES (P. Hammersley) improved up on to the heels of LITTLE LONG HORN and shifted outwards and then raced wide for the remainder of the race.
Passing the 500m, CASTING STONES (T. Bell) shifted out around the heels of ROUVRAY (M. Cahill) to improve and made heavy contact with SOUTHERLY (B. Richardson).
RELEASE ME (J. Byrne) was held up in the early stages of the straight.
CASTING STONES shifted out after leaving the 400m and brushed the tiring LITTLE LONG LONG HORN, which resulted in ST ANDREWS (G. Colless) and PURE SHORES being forced wider.
SOUTHERLY shifted out near the 300m, taking ROUVRAY out on to CASTING STONES. Apprentice B. Richardson was reminded of her obligations to stop riding and straighten mount when shifting ground under pressure
Approaching the 200m, ST ANDREWS shifted out and made contact with PURE SHORES. POWER PLANT (A.Coome), which was following, shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of PURE SHORES.
C. Munce, rider of SIR KNOX, was fined $200 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.
G. Colless was asked to explain the performance of ST ANDREWS. He stated that he was obliged to race 3 wide with cover and did have some difficulty securing clear running in the early part of the home straight, however once he shifted out into clear running, ST ANDREWS failed to sprint as expected. He added that, in his opinion, ST ANDREWS is best suited when racing in the leading division. Trainer R. Heathcote advised that the gelding will now be sent for an immediate spell. A post race veterinary examination of ST ANDREWS revealed the horse had jarred up on the firm surface. A routine swab sample was taken from ST ANDREWS.
