Near the 500m MASTER GAZE became awkward when racing to the inside of ROCKY KING (D. Browne).

After leaving the 400m SEEKING MORE attempted to shift out from behind the heels of ROCKY KING but was prevented from doing so by PLATEAU GOLD (J. Byrne), which raced tight to its outside. SEEKING MORE then altered course to the inside of ROCKY KING to obtain clear running.

PLATEAU GOLD laid in under pressure in the straight.

Race 2: AMBASSADOR TRAVEL QTIS 2YO H’CAP - 1200m

TOP TONE (L. Cassidy) jumped awkwardly, shifted out and hampered TALES OF FASHION (T. Bell).

HOT TEMPO (J. Byrne) jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with LIGHT 'N' SHADE (A. Spinks).

Approaching the 1000m TOP TONE, after initially making contact with the hind quarter of ANOTHER WHISKEY (B. El-Issa), shifted in abruptly, again making contact with ANOTHER WHISKEY, resulting in HOT TEMPO, which was racing to that horse's inside, having to be steadied. TOP TONE continued to overrace until passing the 800m.

Near the 800m TOP TONE shifted out away from the heels of TABLES OF FASHION.

L. Cassidy (TOP TONE) accidentally dropped his whip after leaving the 400m.

A post-race veterinary examination of TOP TONE revealed that the gelding had sustained a laceration to the off hind hock consistent with being galloped on. Connections advised that TOP TONE would be sent for a spell. A swab sample was taken from TOP TONE.

Race 3: COKE ZERO MAIDEN PLATE – 1600m

Connections advised that from the wide barrier CATADAM (T. Harrison), which usually races up on the speed, would be ridden back in the field. The horse was ridden accordingly.

At the request of its rider, CATADAM underwent a veterinary inspection prior to the start and was cleared to race.

GENERIS HEART (G. Goold) raced wide throughout.

CATADAM was held up leaving the 600m.

OUTSTRIP (P. Holmes) was held up rounding the home turn.

Near the 300m DARK MATTER (B. El-Issa) had to be steadied away from the heels of CAVENDISH ROAD (B. Stewart), which shifted out. DARK MATTER then angled back to the inside of CAVENDISH ROAD to obtain clear running.

When questioned regarding the performance of SON OF A WARRIOR, which finished at the tail of the field, apprentice A. Taylor explained that she had been instructed by the trainer Mr D. Shultz to take a forward position and not any stage to restrain as the gelding has previously shown a tendency to lose momentum very quickly. A post-race veterinary examination of SON OF A WARRIOR revealed no significant findings.

B. Stewart (CAVENDISH ROAD) was fined $200 for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race.

Race 4: FDC CONSTRUCTION & FITOUT BM85 H’CAP - 1200m

In the early stages of the straight SMILES FOR LAYLA (T. Bell) raced ungenerously when placed under pressure.

When questioned, D. Brown stated that he could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance of CATALONIA.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of CARN, trainer D. Johnson advised that he was surprised with the gelding's performance however believed that CARN does prefer racing on soft tracks.

Race 6: BUNDABERG DISTILLING CO QTIS 3YO H’CAP - 1500m

Near the 1300m SEA RED (R. Wiggins) had to be checked off the heels of ZAHA DREAM (B. El-Issa) when that gelding shifted out.

Prior to the 300m SEA RED shifted out and made contact with BALLINGALL BOY (D. Browne), which turned BALLINGALL BOY back in. A short distance later PALMERA LAD (A. Allen) shifted in under pressure tightening the running of BALLINGALL BOY. Apprentice A. Allen was reprimanded and advised he must straighten his mounts sooner than he had done on this occasion.

Near the 300m SOLO SAGA (C. Munce) improved into a narrow run between YOU DID WHAT (G. Goold) and the tiring MY BOY BRANDO (A. Spinks).

Near the 250m MY BOY BRANDO shifted in slightly, resulting in SOLO SAGA making contact with YOU DID WHAT, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced and YOU DID WHAT having to be checked. Stewards advised both A. Spinks (MY BOY BRANDO) and C. Munce (SOLO SAGA) to exercise more care in future.

A post-race veterinary examination of SEA RED (R. Wiggins) revealed no abnormalities.
