As R. McMahon was indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary Sheet.
Race 1: Secutor Securties QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate – 1000m
When the gates were released, KATELETTE (A. Allen) had its head down and then began very awkwardly.
BRONZE TIARA (R. Ride) and FASHION APP (N. Tomizawa) were slow into stride.
From the 600m, KATELETTE raced greenly and shifted wider on the track.
Following the running of this race a number of riders who rode expressed some concerns with the condition of the track at a point near the 850m where the 1000m shute joined the course proper. They were of the view that this part of the track was much softer than the Good rating for a section of about 50m. Stewards, accompanied by the Course Manager, inspected that section of the track and found a small area of the track from the running rail to about 8 horses wide at the 850m mark that was wetter due to a sprinkler head which was discovered to have been damaged by machinery. As a result of this, the false rail in the 1000m shute was moved out approximately 8 metres for the running of Race 2 to avoid that section of the track.
Race 2: Gallopers Sports Club Class 4 H'cap – 1000m
DENMARK HILL (R. Jamieson) began awkwardly.
ENCINITAS (M. Cahill) was slow to begin.
J. Byrne, rider of BEACH BABE, explained he was instructed to ride the horse in a handy position, which he did. However he was mindful that the trainer had advised him that the mare had difficulty in quickening when placed under full pressure. He said for this reason that on straightening he anticipated a run would eventuate between LISA FASHIONISTA (C. Munce) and ELITE ATEATES (A. Allen), however when this did not eventuate he then elected to shift to the outside of ELITE ATEATES to quicken. J. Byrne added that once he did this, BEACH BABE did not respond as he would have liked and, in his opinion, was somewhat disappointing with its finishing effort.
Race 3: Sy Racing Benchmark 80 H'cap – 1833m
Trainer K. Schweida advised stewards that from the wide draw and up in distance, it was the intention to ride WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY in a forward position. The horse was ridden accordingly. J. Byrne reported that after being instructed to try and lead on the gelding he rode it hard in the early stages to cross to the lead at the 1400m, however after assuming this position, WHAT HAPPENEDHENRY then commenced to overrace badly and proved difficult to restrain until a point near the 900m.
G. Colless reported that VIKING HEART was inclined to lay out throughout the race and on straightening when placed under pressure failed to respond and, in his opinion, was short it its action in front. A post race veterinary examination of VIKING HEART revealed the horse to have a small laceration to the near fore canon and had a poor post-race recovery. Trainer K. Schweida advised that he would have the horse fully examined by his veterinary surgeon and blood samples taken, the results of which he undertook to report to stewards.
Mr B. Dais, trainer of WHITE CITY, which tailed off during the middle stages, stated that the horse has been reluctant to stride out on the firm track, which he believed today's surface was. Mr Dais also indicated that the horse was significantly up in the weights and benchmark handicap today and that he would step WHITE CITY up in distance for its next start. Mr Dais was advised that should WHITE CITY perform similarly, further consideration would be given to the horse's racing future.
Race 4: BMAG Maiden Plate – 1833m
FAST NEWS (R. Wiggins) stumbled at the start.
Near the 600m, CLANGORANDA (S. Drake) was steadied away from the heels of EL JADIDA (L. Tarrant).
R. Wiggins, rider of the 3rd placegetter, FAST NEWS, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts at least hands and heels right out to the finish post.
TOPENDING (K. Matheson) raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
Trainer M. Eggleston explained that GODS 'N' WARRIORS, which performed disappointingly, had been up for some time this preparation, and was of the view that the horse did not appreciate the increase in distance at this stage of its career and that it was now his intention to spell the gelding immediately. A post race veterinary examination of GODS 'N' WARRIORS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 5: Hidden Dragon @ Lyndhurst Maiden H'cap – 1200m
In the early stages, LOOK AT ANYTHING (P. Holmes) overraced badly.
Just prior to straightening, LOOK AT ANYTHING (P. Holmes) was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BLAKE'S LAD (B. El-Issa) for a short distance.
Both LES PALMER (J. Byrne) and SUPERSPORT (M. Payne) raced wide throughout.
Race 6: City Property Services F&M Class 3 H'cap - 1200m
Upon entering the track to proceed to the start, A FINE DROP OF RED refused to proceed to the barriers. After some time it then reared and threw itself down. A FINE DROP OF RED continued to prove reluctant to proceed to the barriers and subsequently was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the barriers and found not suitable to race and was declared a late scratching at 3.29 pm.

Making the first turn, BABY I KNOW (J. Byrne), which was inclined to lay out, was steadied from the heels of WILLOW MIST (M. Cahill), which shifted in slightly.
Near the 500m BABY I KNOW shifted outside the heels of WILLOW MIST. As this occurred, MINING TYCOON (C Munce) improved quickly around BABY I KNOW, an endeavoured to hold that horse in, resulting in them making contact and BABY I KNOW becoming unbalanced for a short distance, brushing the hindquarter of WILLOW MIST, which then shifted out slightly.
Apprentice T. Harrison, rider of ANTARTIC DREAM, explained that the mare has been racing in a forward position recently due mainly to its good gates. She said even from today's awkward draw she anticipated being in a forward position, however ANTARTIC DREAM began awkwardly and shifted out slightly and then was slow to muster speed. Therefore for those reasons she elected to immediately take hold and shift across to race without cover.
Race 7: Access Insulation Sunshine Coast Class 3 H'cap - 1500m
HEZA JETSETTER (D. Browne) jumped away very awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.
In the early part of the straight, GOTITALLWRONG (A. Allen) appeared reluctant to shift out from behind RACING IN THE WIND (R. Wiggins).
D. Brown, rider of HEZA JETSETTER, advised that the horse was dropping back in class today however was carrying a big weight. He added that HEZA JETSETTER raced in a rearward position with cover as anticipated but he became concerned rounding the home turn when his mount was not responding to his endeavours to improve and considered the performance most disappointing. Jockey Brown added he recommended to the trainer that he experiment with the addition of gear in an attempt to get the horse to focus on the race. Trainer R. Heathcote advised he was of the view there may be something slightly amiss with the gelding and intended to have his stable veterinarian examine the horse tomorrow. Mr Heathcote added that if any abnormalities became apparent it would be his intention to recommend to connections that HEZA JETSETTER be spelled immediately.
A post race veterinary examination of GOTITALLWRONG revealed it had been galloped on off fore coronet
Race 8: Sita Australia CG&E Class 3 H'cap - 1200m
On jumping away, PUNTERS PRIDE (P. Schmidt) was crowded for room by WARHOGG (A. Butler), which shifted in.
BRADY 'N' ME (J. Byrne) received a bumped shortly after the start.
In the early stages, PUNTERS PRIDE overraced.
On straightening, MAN OF MERIT (A. Allen) was disappointed for a run between FREEROCKER (R. Jamieson) and WARHOGG, which shifted out slightly. MAN OF MERIT was then shifted back in in an endeavour to secure clear running however was again disappointed between ALANGEJACK (A. Butler) and BRADY 'N' ME, which then shifted out.
A. Butler, rider of ALANGEJACK, explained that the horse began well and he obtained a forward position with cover. He said the horse only travelled for a short distance and from he 800m he was concerned that his mount was not handling the track conditions. For this reason he shifted wider on the track, however when placed under pressure ALANGEJACK did not let down and, in his opinion, was most disappointing. A. Butler added he had recommended to the trainer that he experiment with the use of blinkers and step the horse up in distance.
