SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Beaudesert, 14.2.14 – Race 2
Stewards today concluded their inquiry into the reasons for SHORAIGH STAR receiving severe crowding resulting in B. Appo being dislodged near the 950m. Stewards today heard further evidence from the riders involved and Mr D. Bell, master of apprentice M. McKenzie, rider of RED HOT MOTHER. Having considered all the evidence put forward on the day and further evidence tendered today, stewards found that shortly after the start the saddle on SAPPHIRE BELLE (B. El-Issa) shifted back slightly and then that horse was inclined to lay in in the early stages on to NATURAL SIGN. As a result of this, SOUL POWERED and SHORAIGH STAR then raced in restricted room until a point approaching the course proper. When SAPPHIRE BELLE endeavoured to be shifted out it was then awkwardly placed inside the heels of RED HOT MOTHER (M. McKenzie) and was unable to relieve the pressure to horses inside. As a result of this general crowding as the horses came out of the chute and joined the course proper, SHORAIGH STAR, which was having its first race start, ran out of racing room and became badly crowded and struck the running rail, resulting in B. Appo being dislodged from SHORAIGH STAR. As stewards were unable to to determine that any one rider was fully responsible for the crowding, they took no further action. However, M. McKenzie, rider of RED HOT MOTHER, was told that the manner in which he shifted across when not properly clear was a contributing factor to the crowding that occurred to his inside.

Apprentice R. Ride was fined $400 for possessing and using a mobile phone in the jockeys' room.
