Near the 500m, PICK IT UP (S. Bogenhuber) shifted out around the heels of RISE OFFTHE PHOENIX (C. Van Der Werf) and made contact with COLOUR ME PRETTY (T. Bell).
A post race veterinary examination of RISE OFTHE PHOENIX revealed it to be exhibiting a mild case of the thumps.
Race 2: Quest Breakfast Creek CG&E Maiden Plate – 1400m
SUPERSPORT (T. Bell) was slow to begin.
WARNING SIGNAL (G. Colless) jumped away awkwardly and this resulted in rider G. Colless becoming unbalanced in the saddle.
Shortly after the start, ARMOURED (R. Wiggins), which began awkwardly, contacted RUNLIKE THE RAPIDS (J. Byrne) and then shifted out, hampering PINTERRA (G. Goold).
RUNLIKE THE RAPIDS overraced in the early stages.
WARNING SIGNAL, when racing greenly after passing the 1000m, shifted out and had to be checked from the heels of DUNLAP (A. Butler). This resulted in RUNLIKE THE RAPIDS, which was following, being inconvenienced.
WARNING SIGNAL hung out passing the 600m, resulting in ARMOURED having to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of MR SANCHEZ (B. Grylls).
In the early part of the home straight, SUPERSPORT was buffeted on a number of occasions between MR SANCHEZ, which shifted in after being tightened by ARMOURED, and WARNING SIGNAL, which was shifting out to obtain clear running. R. Wiggins, rider of ARMOURED, was reprimanded and advised to make a greater effort to keep his mounts on a straight course in similar circumstances.
WARNING SIGNAL continued to shift out around the heels of ARMOURED and again bumped SUPERSPORT on a number of occasions.
ARMOURED was inclined to lay in under pressure over the final 300m, and near the 150m shifted in, bumping PINTERRA.
G. Colless reported at scale that WARNING SIGNAL hung out for a major part of the race.
A post race veterinary examination of SUPERSPORT revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer R. Litton was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided for the horse.
Race 3: Sky Racing QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1600m
HOT SAGA (E. Wilkinson) was slow to begin.
ROWA'S MARK (R. Ride) and TREASURE MAP (J. Orman) overraced in the early stages.
When FIRST CLASS (R. McMahon) crossed to the lead approaching the 1000m, BERNITCHY (T. Harrison) began to overrace and had to be checked from that runner's heels. ROWA'S MARK, which was following and also overracing, had to be checked and shifted out, resulting in TREASURE MAP being forced 3 wide. TREASURE MAP then raced 3 wide for the remainder of the event.
BERNITCHY was held up for clear running in the home straight until near the 250m.
After passing the 400m, MR AHLBERONI (M. McGuren) shifted out around the heels of TREASURE MAP to improve, resulting in both GODDESS OF LUCK (M. Cahill) and MISS HUSSON (L. Cassidy) being hampered. M. McGuren, rider of MR AHLBERONI, was reprimanded.
In the early part of the home straight, HOT SAGA had difficulty securing clear running.
When questioned regarding the performance of BERNITCHY, T. Harrison reported she was held up rounding the home turn and unable to improve, and when the pace quickened was then unable to sprint.
Jockey L. Cassidy reported that in his opinion MISS HUSSON raced disappointingly and may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer B. Hill agreed with jockey Cassidy's assessment and advised that MISS HUSSON would be sent for an immediate spell. A post race veterinary examination of MISS HUSSON failed to reveal any significant abnormalities, and a swab sample was taken.
Race 4: Drumbeats @ Lyndhurst Class 3 H'cap - 1600m
SADDLEBACK (T. Harrison) overraced in the early stages.
Soon after straightening, BAITED BREATH (R. McMahon) was disappointed for clear running between MAN WITH THE PLAN (M. Cahill) and SADDLEBACK (T. Harrison)
Passing the 200m, SADDLEBACK (T. Harrison) shifted out and became momentarily awkward at the heels of PLATINUM MINT (M. Hellyer).
M. Cahill, rider of MAN WITH THE PLAN, was fined $200 for returning to scale overweight.
Race 5: Bundaberg Distilling Co Benchmark 75 H'cap - 1200m
EAGLE SHAMAN (J. Byrne) was slow to begin.
Stewards opened an inquiry into jockey M. Hellyer's riding of BEAU BOY in the middle stages of the race, in particular the reason he did not elect to restrain that gelding and take a trailing position behind the leader ADENARUS near the 1400m, rather than persisting to challenge ADENARUS for the lead. After taking evidence from rider M. Hellyer and Mr M. Kropp, trainer of the gelding, the inquiry was adjourned to enable stewards to obtain sectional times and to review footage of the racing history of BEAU BOY.
A post race veterinary examination of BEAU BOY revealed a slow post-race recovery.
A post race veterinary examination of CAPTAIN FASTBUCK and ROMEO LAD revealed the horses to be suffering from heat stress.
Race 6: Gallopers $11.95 Meals Benchmark 85 H'cap - 1300m
Passing the 1000m, STORM MAGIC (E. Wilkinson) commenced to overrace and had to be checked from the heels of PLATINUM STATE (J. Johnson). BOOGIE SHOES (L. Cassidy) and TRISKELE (B. Grylls), which were following, also had to be restrained.

Race 7: Hamilton Hotel F&M Class 3 Plate – 1200m
GUNDY GAL (C. Munce) was slow to begin.
LILY MY GIRL (M. Cahill) overraced in the early stages.
When questioned regarding the performance of MIAMLEY, T. Bell stated that the mare never travelled comfortably throughout the race and had a tendency to lay out, and, in his opinion, felt awkward in its action over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination of MIAMLEY failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 8: Food & Wine Raceday 30th August CG&E Class 3 Plate – 1200m
Connections advised that ZIZZELDO would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
ZIZZELDO was examined by the veterinary surgeon after arriving at the barriers at the request of its rider, T. Harrison after the gelding stumbled during its preliminary. ZIZZELDO was subsequently passed fit to start.
Near the 1100m, ROCK ROYALTY (J. Orman) shifted in and bumped QUANDIALLA (C. Munce).
Passing the 600m, SILVER RIVER (A. Butler) was momentarily tightened for room between TAKE A JACKET (T. Wolfgram) and GENERAL SON (R. Wiggins).
After passing the 300m, HEART SMART (T. Bell) shifted out to improve and bumped ROCK ROYALTY (J. Orman), which in turn was taken out on to the hind quarters of GREAT INAGUA (B. El-Issa).
GENERAL SON had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight until near the 250m.
TAKE A JACKET was held up for clear running in the home straight until approaching the 100m.
