Race 1: Gouldson Injury F&M Class 6 H'cap - 1400m

Connections advised that HEARTS'N'DIAMONDS, which normally settles forward, will, if circumstances permit, take up a position just worse than midfield. The horse was ridden accordingly.

FINE BUBBLES – Shifted out leaving the 400m to secure clear running and made contact with another runner.

CLIQUES – Inconvenienced after passing the 400m. A veterinary examination revealed a slower than normal recovery rate and also some bruising to the inside of the near hind heel consistent with having kicked out whilst fractious in the barriers, and was also found to have blood formed in an old abscess which was reported to the veterinary surgeon to have been found by the trainer on Sunday afternoon, 3 August. Trainer B. Mackay also indicated to stewards that this abscess had been treated early in the week and as the mare had not been sore or had not missed any work, he was satisfied with presenting CLIQUES to race in today's event. B. Mackay pleaded guilty to a charge under AR140(a) in that he had failed to report to stewards as soon as practicable a condition which may have impacted upon the horse's performance and was fined $400.

HEARTS'N'DIAMONDS - hung in rounding the home turn. Trainer advised stewards that connections would give consideration to retiring the mare following today's poor performance.

Race 2: Liberal National Party Open H'cap - 2106m

HI SON – Connections advised that Hi Son, which settled in a forward position last start, will be ridden further back in the field if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Improved onto heels near the 600m and had to be restrained.

VOLKHERE – Connections advised that the gelding would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. After initially settling midfield, the horse was shifted wider on the track and ridden forward after passing the 1400m to assume a position outside the lead.

ANGUSROY – Raced wide in the early stages. Rider questioned regarding tactics in riding the horse aggressively early and to take up a position outside the lead, which was in contrast to its normal racing pattern. B. Grylls said from the wide alley it was intended to take up a position just behind the lead, however due to be positioned wide on the track after travelling 200m she continued to press forward.

ATTICA – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Schmidt to settle the horse back in the field from its wide barrier, as had been the instructions at its previous start at Eagle Farm on 30 July.
