RACED AT EMERALD TRACK

WEATHER: Fine. TRACK: Dead for races 1& 2.
Good for races 3,4&5.

GENERAL; A significant amount of rain fell on the Springsure track early in the week. As a consequence the meeting was transferred to Pioneer Park Emerald.

Due to a number of incidents that occured in race one the starting times for races 2 to 5 where amended as follows;

RACING:

Race 1 MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 Metres - (11 Starters) - Trainer Mr. F. Williams made a submission to stewards to have Jockey Scott Brown relieved of his engagement to ride SOVERRIGN LORD in race 1 and ALCEA in race 3. After taking statements from both the trainer and jockey, stewards rejected Mr. Williams request and confirmed that the riding engagements would stand. Scott Brown rode both SOVERRIGN LORD and ALCEA.
BROADIE was presented in the enclosure with a nose roll that exceed the designated specification. Trainer Mr. N. Perry was instructed to remove the nose roll from BROADIE. Mr. Perry gave an undertaking to stewards to modify the nose roll so that it complied with steward's requirements.
Prior to race 1 the barrier stalls were placed at the 1000 metre mark on the course proper. Before the start and at the direction of the stewards the barrier stalls were moved to the 1000 metre shute start. This necessitated a short delay to the start of the race.
BROADIE (B. Chatteris) became unsettled in the barriers, lashed out with its hind legs resulting in the adjacent barrier gates 1 & 3 opening prematurely. AQUA (D. Rewald) and CLAIRVOYNCE (T. Williams) were released from the barriers riderless, and galloped the distance of the race. Both AQUA and CLAIRVOYNCE were withdrawn by stewards at 1.20pm. This action was supported by the veterinarian after an inspection of the horses. All bets on AQUA and CLAIRVOYNCE were refunded and bets made prior to scratching time were subject to a deduction of 21 cents in the dollar for the win and 21 cents in the dollar for the place in accordance with the provision of the Racing & Betting Act and Local Rule 147(4).
As a result of the incident horses were released from the barriers riderless. Stewards instructed riders D. Rewald and T. Williams that they had an obligation to maintain control over their horses at all times. Stewards understood that on some occasions riders were obliged to consider their own safety, however on this occasion riders were dismounted to relieve weight from the horses.
At the start BROADIE (B. Chatteris) jumped out onto DELMA’S COMING (G. Bell)
SOVEREIGN LORD (S. Brown) was slow to begin and raced ungenerously in the early stages of the race.
At the 750 metre mark EASTER MALIA (K. Neumann) ducked out abruptly inconveniencing SHOKA LENA (A. Williams) who then commenced to race ungenerously.
Jockey W. Bell the rider of ANOTHER NUREYEV was reprimanded for his extended use of the whip on a horse that was out of contention.
An objection was lodged by jockey K. Neumann the rider of second placed horse EASTER MALIA against the first placed horse DULCIE’S JEWEL (D. Bird) alleging interference from the 200 metre mark. After taking evidence from both riders, viewing the video and based on their own observation's, stewards dismissed the protest. Correct weight was declared on the judge's placings 5,11,3 & 10.
DULCIE’S JEWEL (D. Bird) shifted out over the concluding stages of the race.
A swab sample was taken from the winner DULCIE’S JEWEL.

Race 2 CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1000 Metres - (8 Starters) - At the start PELAPRATT (B. Carne) jumped out onto SWEET TREAT (D. Rewald)
DITCH TO DITCH (T. Williams) jumped in the air and was slow to begin. The horse then raced ungenerously and hung in until the 200 metre mark.
MY SAMANTHA (W. Bell) raced ungenerously from the 600 metre mark to the home turn and in doing so hampered NOBLE MARY (N. Coyne) who was unable to secure a clear run up to the home turn.
At the 150 metre mark JADE LA RAE (S. Brown) attempted to duck in behind a tiring MY SAMANTHA (W. Bell). JADE LA RAE (S. Brown) continued to shift in over the concluding stages of the race.
At the 100 metre mark EKRANOPLAN (D. Bird) shifted in, slightly inconveniencing DITCH TO DITCH (T. Williams)

Race 3 OPEN HANDICAP 1400 Metres - (10 Starters) - Following a submission to stewards by rider B. Chatteris, stewards resolved that he was entitled to a riding fee for the horse FRUIT DE MERE (LR51(3)). The horse was scratched after the riding engagement had been confirmed. In addition stewards directed that the club pay B. Chatteris the riding fee and recover same from the trainer.
RUM RAIDER (D. Bird) failed to jump with the field and lost ground.
KINGSTON POINT (B. Carne) had to be eased and lost ground at the 1300 metre mark. At a subsequent enquiry jockey G. Bell was charged and found guilty of a charge of careless riding (ARR 137(a)) for permitting BRAZEN BILL to shift in at the 1300 metre mark when insufficiently clear of KINGSTON POINT (B. Carne) causing KINGSTON POINT to be checked and loose ground. Jockey G. Bell’s licence to ride in races was suspended from midnight on Monday the 14th June up to and including Saturday the 19th June, a period of 2 Capricornia Racing Association race meetings. G. Bell was allowed to fulfil her engagements at Moranbah on Monday the 14th June.
BRAZEN BILL (G. Bell) was held up for a run from the 500 metre mark to the home turn.

Race 4 CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1300 Metres - (5 Starters) - KEEP LOOKING (A. Williams) became unsettled and was difficult to handle in the barriers.
KEEP LOOKING (A. Williams) hung out for the entire race. Jockey A. Williams stated that he thought the horse may have been sore. A veterinarian inspection revealed no obvious abnormalities. The rider's comments were noted.
Apprentice B. Carne reported to stewards that FOXROCK BOYO may have been sore in the off front leg.
CONSTITUTION (D. Bird) weakened badly in the straight. After the race CONSTITUTION bled from both nostrils. The horse was examined by the veterinarian who confirmed that the horse had haemorrhaged from both nostrils. In accordance with ARR 53A CONSTITUTION was banned from racing for 3 months from 12/6/99. The Document of Description was marked accordingly.
A swab sample was taken from the winner PEDRO’S PICK.

Race 5 CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1300 Metres - (4 Starters) An objection was lodged by jockey D.Rewald the rider of second placed horse PRINCESS DORRIE against the first placed horse MUSICAL WITCH (W. Bell) alleging interference on the home turn and inside the 200 metre mark. After taking evidence from both riders, viewing the video and based on their own observation's, stewards dismissed the protest. Correct weight was declared on the judge's placings 5,3,4&2.
On the turn MUSICAL WITCH (W. Bell) shifted out and bumped PRINCESS DORRIE (D. Rewald). A short time later MUSICAL WITCH (W. Bell) and PRINCESS DORRIE (D. Rewald) came together.

SWABBING Swab samples taken were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for analysis.
BOOKMAKERS Bookmakers L. Olsen and A. Guest fielded at the meeting.

GENERAL

 Apprentice Darren Bird reported to stewards that he was unable to produced his apprentice book. Apprentice Bird was allowed to claim his 3kg allowance and advised that he must take the necessary action to locate his book or make arrangements to have it replaced.
 Due to lack of information on course for the declared deduction for BONANOVA a non starter in race 8 in Brisbane, stewards declared a deduction 7 cents the win and 8 cents the place. This action reflected a fair outcome for both bookmakers and those patrons with an interest in race.
 Veterinarian Mr B. Beale attended the race meeting.
 One barrier trial was conducted. Barrier certificates were issued to GHOST SHIP and DANDY SOX
