STEWARDS REPORT – SATURDAY 28TH JULY, 2001

WEATHER: FINE TRACK: GOOD
GENERAL
W. Bell was indisposed through illness and as a result the following replacements were approved:
Race 3 HIGHLAND LADDIE D. Whitmore
Race 4 CAMBRAD W. Welburn
RACE 1 CLASS 6 HCP. 1200 METRES (9 STARTERS): STORMY CIRCLES refused to proceed to the start after leaving the saddling enclosure, which resulted in its rider T. Williams dismounting and the mare was subsequently led riderless to the starting stalls by the clerk of the course.
At a subsequent inquiry T. Williams was reprimanded for failing to ride his mount to the start as is his obligation under AR125. Trainer D. Powell was advised that a warning would be placed on the parading behaviour of STORMY CIRCLES.
REGAN was crowded at the start between MICHAEL’S MATE and LA CASTRES both of which jumped away awkwardly.
MICHAEL’S MATE (D. Whitmore) raced fiercely throughout the event.
STORMY CIRCLES (T. Williams) shifted out and made contact with STAGE (M. Barnham) over the concluding stages.
RACE 2 MAIDEN HCP. 1100 METRES (7 STARTERS): CORSAIR jumped in at the start and hampered AGILE JAX (M. Barnham).
ZEPHYR MAN was slow to begin.
Approaching the 150 metres CORSAIR (T. Williams) commenced to shift out under pressure and as a result was obliged to be steadied off the heels of RIVERTAAN (M. Evans).
A post race vet examination of CORSAIR failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 3 CLASS 4 HCP. 1100 METRES (10 STARTERS): BEEN THERE’S BEST (D. Simmons) jumped in at the start and hampered SPRING FOUNTAIN.
TELLEGRA was slow to begin.
HIGHLAND LADDIE (D. Whitmore) was obliged to race wide in the early and middle stages.
A. Lane the rider of THE PRINCE reported that his mount was inclined to hang in the straight.
RACE 4 OPEN HCP. 1100 METRES (9 STARTERS): FINAL GATE was slow to begin.
RACE 5 CLASS 2 HCP.1000 METRES (9 STARTERS): BLACK OWL was slow to begin.
M. Barnham the rider of LAMBADA QUEEN (NZ), reported that the tree of his saddle broke as the gates opened.
BOOKMAKERS: Two (2) bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
SWABBING: All winners were sent to be swabbed and the samples collected were forwarded to the Racing Science Centre for routine analysis.
