SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Clermont Saturday 3rd July 2010
Jockey N. Patchett pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 137A 5(a)(ii) in that when the rider of MARAQUITAS in Race 2 and WILLY NIC in Race 5 that prior to the 100 metre mark, he used his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions. Jockey Patchett had his licence to ride in races suspended from m/n Saturday 24th July 2010 up to and including 29th July 2010 (2 Central and Northern Qld meetings)

Race 1: Emerald Garden Creations Class 2 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st –KALKIE MISS 2nd – CHAIRMANSHIP 3rd – GOLDEN SAILS 4th – CHESTER’S EXPRESS

GOLDEN SAILS (A. Coome) was slow to begin.

EL KHARTUM (S. Evans) jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start, SHOW SEEKER commenced to buck and dislodged Jockey S. Watkin. Jockey Watkin was attended to by paramedics and transported to hospital for further examination and observation. Riding replacements were made as per the Stewards summary. Stewards advised Trainers representative Mr. M. Cosgriff that SHOW SEEKER would be required to barrier trial prior to its next race start.

At approximately the 800 metres, LE MIRAGE (D. Whitmore) was steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of GENERAL POMPEI (M. Barham) which had shifted in and away from MALA MALA, which has shifted in momentarily.

BLACK ANGUS (App H. O’Hara) raced wide throughout.

When questioned regarding the performance of ARTIC ECHO, Jockey D. Monaghan stated he was instructed to take up a forward position if possible and settle where comfortable. He stated the mare travelled well throughout, and was placed under pressure at approximately the 400 metres however only run on until the 200 metres. He stated in his opinion the mare had raced tired. Trainer T. Austin advised the mare would now be sent for a spell.

Race 2: Turn Good Pty Ltd Maiden Plate- 1200 metres
1st - MRSOOTY 2nd – GIGGLE ‘N’ GOSSIP 3rd – AKKABAK 4th – THAT’S BOBBYS GIRL

PAWS ‘N’ PEARLS (J. Stephens) was declared a late scratching at 2.10pm when unable to be loaded. Trainer A. Stephens was advised that the filly would be required to pass a barrier jump-out prior to its next race start. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on PAWS ‘N’ PEARLS be refunded, and that all bets made with bookmakers be paid less the following deductions; 7 cents in the dollar win and 8 cents the place.

At the start SNEAKY SECRET (T. O’Hara) lost ground when tightened between AKKABAK (App F. Freihaut) and TOMARY FLAME (M. Cant) which shifted out abruptly when taken out by JOE KWILA (T. Bannon).

DUTCH PICCOLO (N. Patchett) was slow to begin.

AKKABAK raced wide throughout.

THAT’S BOBBYS GIRL (App H. O’Hara) which was inclined to lay out rounding the home turn, shifted out and as a result JOE KWILA, DUTCH PICCOLO were shifted wider on the track. At this time, TOMARY FLAME shifted out away from DUTCH PICCOLO and SNEAKY SECRET was taken wider on the track.

Jockey L. Dillon reported TESTA RADJ was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

Race 3: Fairbairn Bakery Class 4 Handicap- 1200 metres
1st – LARRY’S SONG 2nd – LOLA BRIGIDA 3rd – ACE IN THE HOLE 4th – SOUNDSLIKEJAZZ

Stewards received a telephone call from Trainer J. O’Sing, stating that he had not been notified that WEEKEND SHOPPER, which had been an emergency, had gained a start, and would not be able to be on course by the prescribed time for this race. Stewards declared WEEKEND SHOPPER a late scratching at 11.43am and would make further inquiries with Trainer J. O’Sing and the Trainers Service Centre.

When the start was effected, BURROWS (J. Stephens) refused to begin with the field and lost considerable ground. Trainer R. Meek stated he would recommend that the gelding be retired, however Stewards advised Mr. Meek that should BURROWS return to racing, it would be required to pass a barrier jump-out.

LOLA BRIGIDA (M. Cant) was checked and lost some ground when tightened between GRAND VARGUE (App F. Freihaut) which had jumped in and DA FUZZ (L. Dillon) which had shifted out after it had made contact with SUTTON CHIEF (S. Sheargold) which had jumped outwards.

LEICA ZED (T. Bannon) was slow to begin and shortly after the start, shifted in and steadied from the heels of STEADY POPLAR (D. Monaghan).

STEADY POPLAR, LOLA BRIGIDA, GRAND VARGUE and GOL all raced wide throughout.

LEICA ZED was held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight until near the 150 metres.

In relation to the performance of DA FAZZ, Jockey L. Dillon stated the gelding hung out from approximately the 800 metres when placed under pressure, didn’t respond to his riding and was disappointing. Stewards followed up with Trainer J Manzelman regarding the post-race condition and intentions. Mr. Manzelmann advised DA FAZZ had pulled up well and that he would continue with the current preparation at this stage.

Race 4: XXXX Open Handicap- 1300 metres
1st – STOUTFAST 2nd - MONTSERRAT 3rd – SEA DYNASTY 4th – PELENNIUM

STUFF UP (D. Monaghan) was slow to begin and lost considerable ground.

In relation to the performance of FORTY EIGHT CRASH, Apprentice F. Freihaut stated she had been instructed to take up a forward position and when unable to do so, was obliged to race wide throughout.

Race 5: Mayfair Tavern Class B Handicap- 1615 metres
1st - A CLASS ABOVE 2nd – PEBS MAGIC 3rd – NEVER BENDS 4th – APOGEE

Immediately prior to the start being effected, A CLASS ABOVE reared in the barriers. The filly was removed and inspected by the veterinarian and cleared to take its place in the field.

PEBS MAGIC (A. Coome) raced wide for the majority of the event.
SESAME STREET (App F Freihaut), A CLASS ABOVE (N. Patchett) and COOLANURE (S. Evans) raced wide throughout.

When questioned in relation to the performance of CIENTO MAMBO, Jockey T. Bannon stated the gelding had failed to stretch out throughout and when placed under pressure from approximately the 900 metres had failed to respond to her riding. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed a torn off fore frog. When contacted, Trainer W. Pomfrett stated CIENTO MAMBO had problems with its heels, particularly on harder tracks, and would address this with corrective shoeing. He also stated he would continue to resolve a skin condition that the gelding was suffering.

Stewards afforded Jockey N. Patchett the benefit of a doubt and accepted his explanation in relation to an apparent celebratory gesture with his whip.

Jockey S. Sheargold pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 145 in that he returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram over his declared weight when the rider of NEVER BENDS. Jockey Sheargold was fined $200.
