Race 1: John Hallam- Ampol Capella Class 2 Handicap- 1000 metres
1st – PLUM BOB 2nd – MAGIC WALTZ 3rd – ONCE AGAIN MELADY 4th- FRAHA
INNOCENT INMATE (J Babarovich) was slow to begin.
MY SHOUT (J. Stephens) jumped out and made contact with SASCHA’S SPIRIT (App A Kitson).
ALL TO ADVANCE (L. Dillon) began awkwardly and lost ground.
SECRET SCENE (C. Pye) pulled hard in the early stages.
MAGIC WALTZ (App K Gates) was inclined to lay in over the concluding stages.
FRAHA (S. McGovern) and COLLESTRADA (S. McCullum) raced wide throughout.
Jockey J Babarovich reported that INNOCENT INMATE had failed to stretch out throughout. A post-race veterinary revealed the gelding may have felt the effects of previous stone bruises, however was not lame.
A post-race veterinary inspection of ALL TO ADVANCE revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg with a suspected upper suspensory strain. Trainer G. Bell reported that on return to the stables, the gelding has swelling to the off fore tendon. It was her intention the gelding be sent for spell, with connections to consider retiring the horse. In the event, ALL TO ADVANCE returned to racing, a veterinary certificate would be required.
Regarding the performance of MISS ANITORES, Jockey D. Evans stated the mare did not travel well throughout and while placed under pressure from the 500 metres, had failed to respond. Trainer G Bell reported the mare would be sent for a spell with consideration given to retiring the horse.
Race 2: Herb Milne Memorial Open Handicap- 1000 metres
1st – DUMUZI 2nd – SPEEDING DRAGON 3rd – LIBERTY TYCOON 4th – TAKE A STAND
Stewards accepted the reason for the late declaration of App A Kitson as rider for DIAMOND ACE.
Stewards permitted Jockey S. McGovern to ride KISS THE GROOM 1 kilogram overweight, due to no other available riders.
DIAMOND ACE was slow into stride.
FALLS CREEK (D. Evans) began awkwardly and was slow into stride.
LIBERTY TYCOON (T. O’Hara) jumped out onto POWER TO EXCEED (J Babarovich) which was taken out onto SAINT BELLE (J. Stephens) with both POWER TO EXCEED and SAINT BELLE being hampered.
TONK (S. McCullum) was held up and unable to obtain clear running over the concluding stages when ZAHMAO (App K Gates) rolled in under pressure.
SAINT BELLE raced wide throughout.
When questioned regarding the performance of FALLS CREEK, Jockey D Evans stated that the gelding had travelled well back in the field further than expected, due to the pace of the race and when able to obtain a position to the outside of the field inside the final 200 metres had run home strongly. Jockey Evans further stated that horse was not suited to the 1000 metres of this race and would appreciate further.
Race 3: Capella Hotel-Motel QTIS Maiden Plate- 1200 metres
1st – TASH’S WILL 2nd – MY MONICA 3rd – MIDNIGHT STALKER 4th – FOREBODING
Whilst Stewards accepted Trainer G Jackson’s reason for the late declaration of Jockey J Stephens as the rider of NORSTROEM, he was otherwise reminded to have a rider declared at the required time.
RHAEGARS FIRE (C. Pye) was slow into stride.
MY MONICA (App M McGillivray) raced 3 wide throughout.
PUFF OF SMOKE (L. Dillon) raced wide throughout. Jockey L Dillon reported that the gelding was inclined to hang out throughout.
Stewards inquired into an incident near the 200 metres. It was established that FOREBODING (D. Evans), when committed to a run to the outside of PUFF OF SMOKE, shifted out across its heels, at which time PUFF OF SMOKE hung out and FOREBODING was obliged to shift out further and in doing so made contact with RHAEGARS FIRE which was steadied and become unbalanced.
On pulling up, Apprentice M McGillivray was dislodged harmlessly from MY MONICA. App McGillivray weighed in for this race and was able to fulfil his remaining engagements.
Race 4: Fairbairn Bakery Class 4 Handicap- 1200 metres
1st – MISTABLISTA 2nd – CRAIGLEA RAWIE 3rd – TALKING NONSENSE 4th – FAIRBRAE
RUNNING WILD (App K Gates) jumped out onto FAIRBRAE (J. Babarovich).
TOP MESSIAH (J. Stephens) jumped in onto SCHOORWIN (S. McCullum) which become unbalanced.
RAZOR GANG (C. Pye) and SCHOORWIN raced wide throughout.
TALKING NONSENSE (App M McGillivray) was inclined to lay out under pressure and brushed TOP MESSIAH near the 250 metres and made contact again near the 100 metres.
Race 5: Simone Montgomerie Tribute Class B Handicap- 1300 metres
1st –BLACK POINT 2nd – DEVIOUS MAN 3rd – KIARA QUEEN 4th – HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS
Stewards permitted Jockey S. McGovern to ride THE PANTZ 1 1/2 kilograms overweight, due to no other available riders. Jockey McGovern was fined a total of $300 under AR 120(b) for being overweight in Race 2 and 5.
LEICAZUPA (T. O’Hara) was a little slow to begin.
AFRICAN GEM (C. Pye) was slow to begin and over-raced in the early and middle stages of the race.
ROSIE THE MAID (J. Babarovich) began awkwardly and lost ground.
KIARA QUEEN (J. Stephens) jumped out across EDGEROI DIXIE (App A Kitson) which lost ground.
Apprentice M McGillivray reported that VANGUARD, which lost ground in the early stages, failed to travel well and had to be placed under pressure to maintain its position until being balanced near the 400m.
THE PANTZ raced wide throughout.
Near the 200 metres, LEICAZUPA was unable to obtain clear running and shifted in near the 150 metres to the inside of DEVIOUS MAN (R. Hancock) and was subsequently held up until near the 50m, shifted out and went to the line without being fully tested.
Regarding the performance of EDGEROI DIXIE, App Kitson stated the mare after beginning awkwardly, the horse had failed to travel well when placed back in the field, however had run on fairly in the straight. App Kitson further stated that EDGEROI DIXIE had performed better when able to ridden more forward. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed the mare to be recovering poorly post-race.
