STEWARDS PANEL: Mr C. Clifford (Chairman) ; Mr J. Hackett; Mr C. McLune; Mr D. Aurisch; Mr D. Hooper (Cadet).
WEATHER - OVERCAST/SHOWERY TRACK - GOOD/DEAD AFTER R.2.
GENERAL: As J. Pollard was injured at the Eagle Farm trials this morning, the following replacements were approved: Race 1. MISTY GLEAM - J. Pollard; Race 3. HAD NO SAY - M. Lister; Race 8. MISTY GLEAM - D. Craven.
RACE 1: KILCOY SENTINEL H'CAP - 1460M.
CHUCKLER and SHABNAM were both slow to begin.
After passing the 1200m. ELFIN BELLE had to be restrained off the heels of the leader HAYSECHO when apprentice A. Merritt eased the pace on that gelding.
Shortly after, MR. MIRROR commenced to overrace and shifted out had to be steadied off the heels of CLASSIC VENTURE.
When attempting to take a narrow run to the inside of CLASSIC VENTURE approaching the 300m.. KELLINA PORTRAIT shifted in slightly, resulting in CHUCKLER having to be checked. After hearing the evidence, stewards were of the opinion that whilst KELLINA PORTRAIT had attempted to take a run where there was doubtful room, they were however not satisfied that D. Spriggs, rider of CLASSIC VENTURE, was totally responsible for the incident and therefore no further action was taken.
Jockey K. Bell and stable foreman B. Campbell were questioned regarding the performance of NEW FAME. Jockey K. Bell stated that the gelding jumped away awkwardly, and when placed under pressure approaching the 900m., the horse failed to respond. K. Bell further added he believed NEW FAME was not suited by the tight turning circuit at Esk. Stable foreman B. Campbell also acknowledged that NEW FAME was not comfortable on the track, however stated that the gelding had worked well prior to today's event. Both explanations were noted. A swab sample was taken from NEW FAME following a veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 2:BRISBANE VALLEY BAKERY H'CAP - 800M.

AMEEN HUSSAR, which was fractious in the barriers, jumped away awkwardly.
SHE LIKES MANGOES was slow to begin.
Jockey M. Carson reported that BOLD PIERRE slipped on 2 occasions rounding the home turn.
Following the running of this event, the track rating was downgraded from good to dead.
RACE 3: BRISBANE VALLEY MEATS H'CAP - 1200M.
Trainer B. Baldwin was fined $50 for not confirming the engagement of A. Russell as the rider of BLONDE PIPER. C. Reith was subsequently approved as the replacement rider.
Trainer P. Strong was fined $50 for failing to notify N. Day as the rider of CHICK CHUCK by the prescribed time.
As S. Shield was to be overweight, K. Pope was substituted as the rider of CHAIRMAN JUDE. S. Shield was reprimanded.
Stewards ordered the late withdrawal of OCEANIA STAR at 1.03 p.m. when it was found that the ownership on the Document of Description was not in order. Trainer T. Harrison was fined $100 for failing to effect a transfer of ownership for the mare, and also fined $100 for lodging an incorrect stable return. Mr Harrison was advised that OCEANIA STAR would be barred from racing until the ownership was put in order to the stewards' satisfaction..
RUSSIAN TENOR jumped away awkwardly.
Approaching the 400m., RUSSIAN TENNOR wsa momentarily tightened for room by CHAIRMAN JUDE, which shifted in slightly.
When improving to the outside of CHICK CHUCK after leaving the 300m., BLONDE PIPER shifted out abruptly, making contact with CHAIRMAN JUDE, causing that runner to become unbalanced and shift out further, unbalancing DAYBREAK EDITION and forcing that mare wider on the track. C. Reith, rider of BLONDE PIPER, was severely reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
RACE 4: BRISBANE VALLEY FARM SUPPLIES H'CAP - 1200M.
As D. Green was indisposed, R. Morris was substituted as the rider of ILUMBAH.
ROKEBY TERRACE and DUMERIC were both slow to begin.
REGAL PIGGY jumped inwards at the start, making contact to JONADAB.
After passing the 800m., JONADAB, which commenced to overrace, had to be steadied off the heels of ILUMBAH.
RACE 5: ESK & DISTRICT CO-OP H'CAP - 800M.
MIGHTY TSAR and FRANKLIN FAIR were both slow to begin.
Approaching the home, MYENDETTA had to be steadied off SEND A DIVA, which shifted in slightly.
MYENDETTA knuckled shortly after making the crossing in the straight.
P. Brown reported that that TOHESERA was inclined to hang in entering the straight, and experienced difficulties fully testing that mare over the concluding stages.
RACE 6:NOEL BEST H'CAP - 800M.
AINVAY, which was involved in a traffic mishap en route to the track, was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.
BOSTON jumped away awkwardly and lost considerable ground.
FLYING CANDY made the home turn awkwardly, taking AINVAY and MIDNIGHT MENACE wider on the track.
Approaching the 150m., BANG BANG shifted out under pressure, resulting in BOSTON having to be steadied and alter course to the inside of that runner. Shortly after BOSTON knuckled making the crossing. Stewards were satisfied that apprentice R. Kerwin, rider of BANG BANG, had made some efforts to straighten her mount and therefore took no further action.
RACE 7: ALISON BEST H'CAP - 1460M.
RED BOY, which was also involved in a traffic mishap with AINVAY (Race 6), was examined by the club's veterinary surgeon and found to have a small laceration to the off-side hock. RED BOY was passed fit to start.
Jockey R. Crilley was examined by the club's doctor after riding in race 2 and advised to forego his remaining engagement. A. Erhart was substituted as the rider of HOT PROSPECT.
Acting on a phone call from trainer H. Davis, stewards acceded to a request to scratch HOT PROSPECT at 3.13 p.m. due to the state of the track. Trainer H. Davis was advised that a dead-track ban would now be placed on HOT PROSPECT.
RED BOY was a late scratching at 4.10 p.m. acting on veterinary advice when it was found that the gelding was sore in the off hind leg. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on RED BOY were ordered to be refunded, with deductions of 21 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets, 17 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets, applicable to successful wagers placed prior to the withdrawal time.
SHOMATAR jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.
Approaching the 400m., WHARF STREET was momentarily hampered by MISS EXCELSIOR, which shifted in slightly.
RACE 8: WIVENHOE MOTOR INN H'CAP - 1750M.
EMBELLISH jumped outwards at the start, taking CAPTAIN'S LASS and RELATE out further.
ANLON BAY jumped inwards at the start, hampering MISTY GLEAM and JET SOON.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, JET SOON had to be steadied when MISTY GLEAM was taken in slightly by RELATE.
Approaching the 1200m., MISTY GLEAM had to be steadied off the heels of RELATE.
Nearing the home turn, HURLEY GIRL, when under pressure, shifted out and made contact with RELATE, which resulted in HURLEY GIRL being forced wider on the track.
At the 200m., CAPTAIN'S LASS had to be steadied when MISTY GLEAM shifted out. D. Craven, rider of MISTY GLEAM, was reprimanded and advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.
Approaching the finish line, COMIC BOOK shifted in and had to be steadied off the heels of MILD WAY.
ALL WINNERS AND NEW FAME WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
