After hearing evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the films, stewards dismissed the protest. In dismissing the objection, stewards were not satisfied that the alleged incident had materially affected the result of the race. At a subsequent inquiry, it was established that after passing the 100m., CRAFTY SILVER attempted to take a run between WAHOO and FRENCH TYPHOON, however as a result of WAHOO shifting in, CRAFTY SILVER was taken in and then had to be checked off the heels of FRENCH TYPHOON, and in doing so shifted out and struck the heels of WAHOO. CRAFTY SILVER then lost ground after passing the 50m. after making contact with WAHOO.

RACE 8: AFC ABATTOIRS H'CAP - 1750M.

MY FACE jumped away awkwardly.

Passing the 1200m., MY FACE got its head up and was inclined to overrace.

CANNY DESIGN made the first turn awkwardly and shifted out, taking RAW TORQUE wider.

When questioned concerning the seemingly improved performance of MAJOR QUEST, trainer S. Jones stated that the horse had been fractious in the barriers at its most recent start at the Gold Coast on 10 June, and when fractious the horse had struck itself, requiring a veterinary examination. He explained that the horse did not race up to his normal standard and he felt that the incident in the barriers may have had a bearing on the gelding's performance that day.

Stewards questioned J. Pollard and trainer M. Lewis concerning the riding tactics adopted on RAW TORQUE. Trainer M. Lewis stated he specifically requested J. Pollard not to be caught wide and take a trail if possible. J. Pollard explained that the horse had jumped better than on previous occasions and in the early stages he felt he was unable to obtain a position closer to the rails, and making the first turn was obliged to race 5 wide. J. Pollard further explained that after being trapped 5 wide leaving the 1300m., he could not obtain a position closer to the rails, and after the pace steadied racing towards the 1000m. he elected to progress forward towards the lead, hoping to be able to give the horse a breather, however after reaching a position outside of the leader the pace quickened and he felt that he was a victim of circumstances. The explanation was noted.

ALL WINNERS AND SHOW DEFIANCE WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
